Based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, director Nick Cassavetes film spins the bittersweet tale of a 60-year romance, as seen from the polar perspectives of its promising youth and the travails of an old age cursed by Alzheimer's. Its soundtrack effectively echoes those polar dramatic concerns, with composer Aaron Zigler's gentle orchestral score largely giving voice to the character's melancholy present, while a rich, well-chosen slate of vintage material by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller imparts a restless energy to their youth. There's a certain schmaltz to much of Zigman's work here, yet cues like "House Blues/The Porch Dance.." and "Noah's Journey" argue he's achieved something more elusive than mere melodramatic wallpaper with the deceivingly difficult task at hand; it can't be easy to have your work seasoned with the likes of Ellington's sassy "Alabamy Home" and Goodman's still-vibrant "One O'Clock Jump." Sharply contrasting versions of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Holiday and Jimmy Durante bookend the soundtrack, perfectly evoking the story's alternating shades of hope and fading nostalgia and framing Zigman's understated work in the bargain. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description
Based on the best selling novel by Nicholas Sparks ("A Walk To Remember", "Message In A Bottle"), "The Notebook" is the story of Noah and Allie, teenage lovers torn apart by WWII and Allie's parents' demands to marry a respectable lawyer. After 14 years apart, they meet again and rekindle their true love. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands. The soundtrack is a propelling force. In addition to classic WWII era pieces, Aaron Zigman's score suites enhance the record with beautifully dramatic themes. Score performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony.Customer Reviews:
Touching.......2007-07-04
It say's go for the "true love", settle for nothing else no matter what may be in store, because love that is "true" and as beautiful as their's was, is a rare thing!
I absolutely loved the ending.
I also loved that a movie CAN be truly wonderful, beautiful and touching WITHOUT grafic "sex scenes!" Also sadly a rare thing in movies today.
Ever seen "Hanover Street?" Equally beautiful. No SEX scenes either!

At its best, Prince's biggest seller of the '90s is an archetype of seemingly casual inspiration, thanks mainly to the ease tracks such as "Cream," "Money Don't Matter 2 Night," and "Willing and Able" exude. Of course, he's working as hard as ever, whether in a mellow groove or an aggressively funky one ("Gett Off"). Compared with the masterpiece Sign o' the Times, Diamonds and Pearls is a minor creation, but it's one for the long haul. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

Diamonds and Pearls - A New Prince.......2005-12-18
Diamonds and Pearls is a new chapter of Prince music, although we already had seen hints of that on Graffiti Bridge in 1990, it fully came out here. A very hip hop influented album recorded with new band the Power Generation. It does have other infleunts aswell and some songs still sound like in the late 80's but it's difficult to not point of the sound of hip hop he's added here, almost like a re-born Prince. The album "Diamonds and Pearls" was a big hit, and not surprising with all the good songs it has. Although his top albums of the 80's where slighyly better this got enough good songs to be called "Near Masterpiece".
"Thunder" is a psychedelic-funk song where the hook "Thunder - all thru the night,Promise to see Jesus in the morning light,Take my hand, it'll be alright, C'mon save your soul tonight" is defenitely about religion. "Daddy Pop" got hip hop all over it. If You like songs like "Get Off" you'll this one too. The title track is magnificient. It's a sensual ballad and yet somehwat pompous and duet with Rosie Gaines. Not surprising it was a big hit. "Cream" is one of those trademarks songs about sex, this funky number was another hit single. "Strollin" is a slow and sensual retro-soulish song where Prince sings in falsetto. It got these jazzy infleunces too. "Willing and Able" got gospel choirs in the back and accoustic guitars. A very good song on it's own right.
"Gett Off", with it's hip hop influented sound and introduction of NPG doesn't need further presentation. A big hit and a funky hip hopish number with very explicit lyrics. "Walk Don't Talk" is funny, and it's extremly catchy and it adds sound fom cars. "JugHeads" is hip hop sounding with raps and cool sounds, but it's one of the weaker songs here, but Prince raps on here. "Money Don't Matter Tonight" is a wonderful romantic ballad, it takes up issues like gambling, finding partners for invetsment and killing kids in order to control oil supply. The message is clear though, it's far more important to have a soul then to have cash. "Push" is another hip hop sounding sound, and like the other simular one's it's catchy but lacks a good hook. "Insatiable" is a great erotic slow jam with horns. Lush and beautiful. "Live 4 Love" is another hip hop sounding song, starts with an original robotic countdown. This one also offers a psychedelic guitar solo and a rap. A beautiful closer to a near-masterpiece.
Conclusion, Diamonds and Pearls was a new chapter in Prince's music, he joined the hip hop revolution of the early 90's where basically all hip music had a flavour of hip hop. However, not all songs are hip hop sounding, many still sound like the old Prince of the mid 80's. As a result this album is very rich and is full of variety. Psychedelics, Hip Hop, Romantic Soul and Pop. Perhaps it sound a little unfocused but in the end it's a fantastic album where Prince shows all of his sides, also a big commerical hit. Must have.
Commercial succes, but uneventfull........2005-12-03

Very smooth, very relaxed = David's best (5 stars).......2005-05-10
My most love for Sanborn is that he is all-of-a-time superstar that can play anything as long as he keep his feet into. He more better than any artists you can consider, can't even subscribe it. He sure put out some good stuff man. He sure is my all-time favorite alongside Kenny G, Norman Brown (my new favorite I dubbed last year), Patrice Rushen, Al Hirt, Maynard Ferguson, Herb Alpert, among others.
This is more like a jazz standards album or an R&B record which u suggest. This is a must if u wanna hear this or else into other different types of music (e.g. rock, pop, blues, R&B, classical, etc.), you gotta have this. PEARLS still remains my all-time favorite album on the Top 5, Top 10, Top 25, you name it. It's still good. Recommend AT LAST...THE DUETS ALBUM by Kenny G for a favor. But this time, don't get him wrong when he's putting out music.

Great 80's pop music.......2006-08-26
Collectors Album or 80s fan album.......2006-06-08
Soul Deep - well its already on the Joyride album so nothing new
Secrets that she keeps - I really like this one actually for the mixture of Per and Marie. I think its great when they swap it around a bit like Silver Blue.
Goodbye to You - 80s classic. Title says it all
I Call Your Name - funky beat. Ok song.
Surrender - Now this is one of my favourites on the album. It has a sweeping epic quality to it and a sense of magic and mystery. I like it when Per sings. He sounds like a pixie. ha ha.
Voices - This is another good track. Sweeping and epic with Marie and Per both singing, swapping over. I like the imagery. It almost has a warsong quality to it with all its talk of crossing the borderline and "hunters of men". Good track.
Neverending Love - funky 80s discolike track. What more can I say. Perhaps a precursor to Look Sharp album although the whole album is. It has a similar quality really now that I come to think of it.
Call of the Wild - Cool name for a track. Per singing. Another cool epic sounding tune. Cool imagery. Romantic. Obsessive almost. Pixie Per.
Joy of A Toy - Revisiting these tracks they are better than I thought actually. This is not as bad as I thougt it was.
From One Heart To Another - A schmoozy duet. Per sings a lot on this album doesn't he.
Like Lovers Do - Just as I am about to trash the song I hear it as if for the first time and it doesn't sound as bad as I thought it did. Every Roxette album grows on you I think. Its just initially that shock at the difference from their other albums. You rue it at first then come to love it.
So Far Away - also found on the Tourism album. A different version. Not sure which I like better. Toursim is more acoustic, this is more synthesised which again gives it more of an epic quality.
Pearls of Passion - The title track. I think I quite like this one too. Good old Per eh. "A banquet of believers". Nostalgic.
It Must Have Been Love - Well there you can buy this album for this song if you want. If you don't know Roxette so well.
Turn To Me - Kind of a bit cheesey - but catchy number. Classic 80s.
The rest are all remakes, rerecordings and pretty boring. Don't know why they bothered so much with 3 versions of Neverending Love it gets a bit tedious. Perhaps could have put some later stuff on or unplugged stuff or something.
Well the album is better than I thought - definitely a precursor to Look Sharp. Similar funky, synth based, style but also has some nice epic like songs on it. Per is a pixie. Make it 4.5 stars for me which rounds up to 5.
mettle of a classic .......2005-11-01
A rather weak performance for Roxettes high standart
2.Secrets That She Keeps 4.3/5
Actually very good but the ending is very unfitting when Marie sings "the love of you and me" doesnt sound right, i expect better from a genius like Per
3.Goodbye To You 5+/5
Very nice melody, especially enjoy Maries voice in this
one
4.I Call Your Name 3.4/5
hmm
5.Surrender 5/5
great song easily a classic
6.Voices 3.4/5
to repetetive
7.Never Ending Love 4/5
another good one
8.Call Of The Wild 5/5
Marie gets to show off her voice in this one once again quite different from the other songs
9.Joy Of A Toy 4.2/5
Typical Rox pop
10. From One Heart To Another 5+/5
Beautiful duet probably the best Song alongwith "It Must Have Been Love"
11. Like Lovers Do 4.7/5
Another top notch really love the melody
12. So Far Away 3.8/5
Not bad when i want to listen to something quite otherwise its a bit boring definetly not a song to start your day with
13.Pearls Of Passion 4.2/5
very good but weak start
14. It Must Have Been Love 5+/5
whats there to say? The "Pretty Women" version is somewhat supirior over this one
Roxette's best by far and an 80s classic.......2005-09-19
It's hard to believe some of the other reviewers' comments about some poor songwriting and implications of superficiality (bubblegum indeed...). Such accusations are a mile wide of the mark. This is a very serious pop album that ranks alongside the best works of the 80s whilst remaining individual and providing high quality from start to finish.
If you are a Roxette fan you should definitely buy this. If you are an 80s pop fan then you have even more reason. It won't let you down.
THIS ALBUM ROX!!!.......2002-03-04
I am an avid Rx fan and have been since I was 12. If you love Rx and want a taste of the 80's I recommend this item..

Casting Pearls - A Great New Band!!!.......2005-08-17
Casting Pearls' debut CD is full of catchy guitar-based pop tunes that highlight Olesen's distinct vocals that sound like a cross between Bono and DCTalk's Kevin Max. In addition to the riff-oriented rock that dominates most of the album, there are also some worshipful moments which are heard in the Coldplay-esque "Focus", the acoustic "You Alone" and the cover of Tim Hughes "Whole World In His Hands".
The album also comes with a full-length bonus DVD that features a 40-minute live performance of the band giving their all. Throughout the concert, the band is joined by various guests including Olesen's Newsboy bandmate Phil Joel, Audio Adrenaline's Tyler Burkum and brother Jason Burkum as well as a full youth choir (for "Whole World In His hands").
Casting Pearls definitely has a promising future ahead of them and have released a stellar debut. Their hard pop-oriented music as well as their direct Christ-centered lyrics are at the forefront as well as their great musicianship.
A Very Recommended Debut!!

Album Description
Tom Rapp, an 18 year-old draft resistor and college dropout living in Eaugallie, Florida, sent a small unsolicited reel of tape to ESP. Bernard Stollman invited him to bring his musicians to New York, where they recorded their acclaimed debut, One Nation Underground in 1967. Less than a year later, they released the equally strong follow-up, Balaklava. Classics of the genre, which certainly would have seen wider attention had ESP survived past 1968, these recordings are getting a well-deserved second chance, thanks to a thorough remastering, under the supervision of Tom Rapp.Customer Reviews:

A Mind Altering Experience.......2005-06-23
And rarely take it out.
This CD instantly became one of my precious favorites. Tom Rapp sings with a bit of a lisp which, at first, had me thinking something was messed up. Upon confirmation that this was how it's supposed to be, I gave it some more time and fell in love. This lisp of his adds a completely unique quality to his singing which you find in practically no one else in music. To me, it speaks of someone who is so into it, he doesn't care if people think it sounds odd, and that alone adds strength to the music.
His songs are at once silly ("(Oh Dear) Miss Morse"), fun ("Playmate"), sad and lonely ("There Was A Man"), insightful ("Guardian Angels") and more. The very final track, "Ring Thing", will make more than a few people chuckle once they understand what it is, especially considering a certain trilogy of blockbusters recently.
I have to say, as well, that the sound quality is simply mind boggling. It is totally clear, every tone comes out perfectly. There's no hiss or pop. I know I'm not an audio engineer, but I dare say this is a FLAWLESS album. A couple tracks have that typical static sound of rough LP recordings, but they're meant that way - the sound of an early 20th century recording, music and all. Considering the age of the originals, and the lack of work done on them over the past 35-plus years, Joe Phillips - re-release producer and re-mastering engineer - pulled a complete rabbit from his hat.
I, myself, am not a child of the 60s, having been born at the end of 1977, so a lot of music from the era has been lost to me. And hey, let's face it, if it's not still popular now, why care? This attitude is completely wrong for Pearls Before Swine. The loss of them over the past several decades is a tragedy.
My father, however, while not a hippy, did have PBS's second album, 'Balaklava', from 1968. One evening, I'm going on about PBS and he tells me it sounds familiar, so I play some tracks, and his eyes just light up. He starts telling me that he used to have it, and some of the stories he remembered from back then. About a week later, I was rifling through some old LPs that my folks had, from before they split, and sure enough, there's 'Balaklava' in its sleeve, a first pressing even, from 1968. In EXCELLENT condition, no less! Amazing!
So, when I saw when this album would be officially released, I got another copy and gave my dad the CD for Father's Day. He was so shocked and so happy, one of those rare times when a gift for someone really, really means something to them.
This album has come to mean so much for me. It's a view into the past, and it carries so much meaning and emotion, I just get taken back. When it's late at night, I get to feeling a little down and thinking about life, and listen to this, I long so badly for the years when these albums were originally out. This CD has the power to transport me to a generation I was never a part of, and never will be; to a time and a world I will never see.
"Did you find that the Universe/ Doesn't care at all? Did you find that if you don't care/ This whole wrong world will fall?" Yes, Tom; a whole lot of us have found that now, and only too late.
