THE single greatest Poco album, PERIOD........2007-05-19
When the original members of Poco (Grantham, Young, Messina, Furay, Meisner) reunited for the extremely-less-than-satisfying "Legacy" in 1989 (Richard MARX...are you KIDDING ME?), they promised that they would be the only "Poco" releasing albums in the future. That lasted all of about five minutes...and rightfully so. It doesn't matter that Paul Cotton and Timothy B. Schmidt didn't appear on "Pickin' Up The Pieces." They belonged to the CLASSIC lineup of this band, the one found on "A Good Feelin' To Know" (Grantham, Young, Furay, Cotton, Schmidt). There's not a bad song on this album. Not a bad SECOND. The opener, "And Settlin' Down," sets the tone...perfect harmonies, chunky rhythms, "Poco Themes" ("I miss my woman, yes, I miss my woman") and pristine playing is only the beginning. The tension / release of Paul Cotton's "Ride The Country" is next..."Here she comes a' ridin'...on a morning sunrise..." punctuated with clean, sharp bursts of rhythm guitar...MAGIC. Just MAGIC. Another Cotton track, "Early Times," is probably the best track he's ever written. Back to Furay for the title track and the ONLY statement Poco's ever made, regardless of the lineup or song..."It's a good feelin' to know somebody loves you." That's IT. That's what POCO was...and still IS...all about, and it is beautifully and energetically expressed on every single second of this 40 minute album. THIS album is "Poco's Greatest Hits," the one you should buy first. Buy as many as you want...AFTER you buy THIS one.
terrific example of classic country-rock.......2007-01-05
This album is so good, I bought it months ago and am still raving about it. It could be described as more "progressive" and quite different from Poco's previous albums. Here is what I think of each song:
"And Settlin' Down"--fairly straightforward rocker with minimal twang and Richie Furay reaching for the sky with his voice; not one of my favorite tracks but not really bad
"Ride the Country"--Such a great song! It reminds me of "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash because of its distinct movements, but it has a darker, dreamier, country-rock sound to it. Paul Cotton sounds thoroughly goofy with his falsetto and Rusty Young's steel guitar really glimmers beautifully, especially at the end, when it sounds like it was brought to the front of the mix. Really tight song.
"I Can See Everything"--A hazy, late-night sort of gem by Timothy B. Schmit that combines a haunting, far-off steel guitar with some kind of hand drums to make a uniquely countrified R&B song. Blatantly good.
"Go and Say Goodbye"--Poco's rockin' version of the old Buffalo Springfield song written by Stephen Stills. Very country-rock and the vocal harmonies seem especially noticeable. Another wicked good song.
"Keeper of the Fire"--Thankfully Paul Cotton sings this one in a normal voice. It's his song and another country-rocker, and somehow it reminds me of a soundtrack for an old Western movie, like it belongs in a scene in which the Indians are chasing after the cowboys, or something.
"Early Times"--Another Paul Cotton song, this time a decidedly stoned rocker with lethargic falsetto vocals on everyone's part. I suppose it breaks up the album a bit.
"A Good Feelin' to Know"--At last, the title track, and the hit pop song that never was. Goodness knows why, in spite of everyone's high hopes, this one flopped, because it's such a catchy country-rocker. Richie Furay is back on lead vocals, again singing sky-high.
"Restrain"--One of those heavy Timothy B. Schmit rockers I relish. This one's all rock and it stomps heavily along with distorted guitars, an organ-like distorted steel guitar, and Schmit singing hard and loud. Another favorite of mine.
"Sweet Lovin'"--This is the only song I can't gush about, I think it's cheesy. It's mostly vocal and sounds like a church hymn, which I'm not knocking, but somehow I can't take it seriously.
AN EXCELLENT POCO ALBUM DURING THE RICHIE FUREY ERA .......2005-09-03
This is the second and only classic POCO album from the 1970s (also the first with RICHIE FUREY) that I have heard. Like I said on the CANTAMOS review, I borrowed this and SEVEN from my brother-in-law. The music is excellent, but RICHEY'S voice is not the best that I have heard. His voice really shines on the 1989 reunion album, a must have, with all original members. Meanwhile, the first song AND SETTLIN' DOWN is an excellent guitar rock song with RICHIE and PAUL COTTON'S electric guitar riffs and RUSTY YOUNGS steel guitar riffs. The next song RIDE THE COUNTRY SIDE that is written and partially song by lead guitarist PAUL (who replaced JIM MESSINA) is so far the best song that I have heard from the RICHIE FUREY era that features outstanding guitar riffs from PAUL, pedal steel guitar riffs from RUSTY (one riffs of RUSTY'S sounds like how he played on THE JAMES GANG'S HERE I GO AGAIN), and lead vocal mostly by RICHIE (at least I think so). Bass guitarist TIM SCHMIT'S (he replaced RANDY MEISSNER and again in 1978 in THE EAGLES) accoustical ballad I CAN SEE EVERYTHING is also an excellent country folk song with the drums by GEORGE GRANTHAM who is their harmony singer, pedal steel guitar, and the acoustic MARTIN guitar riffs. TIM'S vocals are very similar to RICHIE'S, but why he is mostly known for session backup singer and not session bass guitarist is a mystery to me because he plays excellent bass guitar. The revival of BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD'S GO AND SAY GOODBYE is outstanding with RICHIE'S lead vocals (or is it PAUL'S since these two also sound alike?), the electric and pedal steel guitar riffs. PAUL'S KEEPER OF THE FIRE is also an excellent country/folk/rock song with blasting pedal steel guitar and banjo riffs by RUSTY and lead vocals by PAUL. His next song EARLY TIMES has excellent intro rhythm guitar riffs that are accompanied by RICHIE, pedal steel guitar riffs, harmony vocals, and the best sounding lead vocals by PAUL. The title track is an excellent fast-paced song that is written and sung by RICHIE with the drums, bass guitar, harmony vocals, the lead and pedal steel guitar playing. TIM'S RESTRAIN is a great guitar rock song with excellent guitar riffs by RUSTY who uses a leslie effect and PAUL, drum playing, and harmony vocals. The last song SWEET LOVIN' is an excellent acoustical country folk song with RICHIE'S vocals, RUSTY'S pedal steel guitar riffs, the piano, the drum playing, and harmony vocals. I guess the intro to this song is RUSTY playing a steel guitar through a leslie cabinet. It's a real shame that he did not write or sing any songs on this album. Plus, I think their music would have sound better if PAUL would have used a GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD through a MARSHALL amp.
A Good Feelin' To Know / Rick's take........2005-07-20
Hi. I'm Rick and I want to say that it really is a good feeling for me to know that I still love Poco music from the 70s and this album is 1 of their best with, I think, their best personnel lineup: George Grantham (excellent right-on drummer),
Paul Cotton - guitar, excellent vocals on "Ride the Country" and
back-up on the other cuts, Richie Furay - guitar and great vocalist, lead on "And Settlin' Down", "A Good Feelin' To Know",
"Early Times", and "Go and say Goodbye" and back-up on the rest,
Rusty Young - excellent pedal steel guitar especially his superb solo riffs on "Ride the Country", and Tim Schmitt (now the Eagles' bass player and for many years) playing bass and sings lead on " I Can See Everything " and " Restrain " with incredible falsetto-type tones of voice.
I really adore this album and am glad I bought it. I think to get a good cross-section of Poco's music over the years I would go for a "Best Of" CD featured on Amazon.com which I looked at before deciding to order " A Good Feelin' To Know ".
If you get off on country-rock in its purest form and it really pulls on your heart strings (especially Rusty's pedal steel work and the lead guitar on "Ride the Country"), then this would be the CD to get. I believe I am exploring Poco all over again. Enjoy!
Poco's Best.......2004-11-16
A GOOD FEELIN' TO KNOW is Poco's best album ever. Most of the songs are great, and the singing and instrumental work is phenomenal. This album proves that there was more to California country-rock in 1972 than the Eagles. It's a shame that this album didn't sell more copies when it was first released.

A vibrant tribute to MGM's legendary confluence of brains, talent, hard work, ambition--and dare we say it?--massive egos, Singin' in the Rain long ago took its rightful place among the first rank of the studio's dizzying catalog of film musicals. This double-disc, 46-track 50th-anniversary edition features all of the film's familiar songs, as well as numerous outtakes and extended versions, many culled directly from the film's original recording masters. Its second disc also chronicles the film's clever--if studio imposed--self-referential musical gambit of recycling a slate of Arthur Freed/Nacio Herb Brown songs from Metro's first decade by including 14 of the originals, including performances by Jeanette McDonald, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Freed himself. Featuring a dozen previously unreleased recordings and an illustrated booklet containing the insightful reminiscences of the film's original writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, it's the ultimate musical companion to one of cinema's magical, enduring masterpieces. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
the perfect movie.......2007-03-10
My old Gene did it: the perfect movie, the perfect american history, the perfect music. Some people think musicals are "B" movies. I say them: look about the dream, the performance, the music.
Who can say what is beatiful? Look at faces of Gene and Stan during the shooting on the set: whole concentration and attention for everything.
This is a unique moment in their story, and in the story of cinema.
Unforgettable.
I LOVE MY FAVORITE SONG, AND THANKS TO THIS CD I CAN LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY LONG!!.......2007-01-28
I love Singin' in the Rain. It was the movie that made me like musicals, not those simple, mellow movies like South Pacific and the Sound of Music, but REAL musicals, with people like Fred Astaire or Eleanor Powell tapping their hearts out, or great singers like Frances Langford or Dick Powell putting over a song like they mean it.The Singin' in the Rain 2disc special edition introduced me to my favorite movie, the Broadway Melody of 1936, the MOST AMAZING MOVIE EVER! So I was so glad when my parents got me the soundtrack to Singin' in the Rain, and besides the music of the 1951 versions of the Nacio Herb Brown/Arthur Freed, there are also the original versions of the songs in their original movies. I am so glad that Rhino put the duet of Robert Taylor and June Knight singing I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' on this CD set! It's my favorite song, and now I can listen to it! Hooray!! It's the best song EVER!! There's also vocals of Charles King singing the Broadway Melody, which is great! And many more, like Bing Crosby, Frances Langford, Jeanette MacDonald, and other great singers I can't think of right now. This CD set is great, the sound is nice and un-staticy (mostly), there are 30-plus songs, and the price is phenomenal. I love my favorite song, and now I can listen to it all day long!! Yay! :)
Wonderful Soundtrack to a Wonderful Movie.......2006-06-16
Yes, this is it--the first real musical I ever saw. Okay, I saw "Wizard of Oz" and "The Sound of Music", and I love both of those musicals dearly. I had even seen "My Fair Lady." I thought musicals were all like those. Until this one. I had never seen such dancing. And this CD causes me to relive the joy of the musical each time I listen to it. Complete with the tap sounds. I love that they included even the deleted songs. Now we just need a DVD that has all the deleted scenes in context. But the studio probably threw all those away. Oh well, our imaginations can take care of what is missing.
Great CD.......2006-03-20
This is a great CD of music for your family to listen to. Our family enjoys it very much.
musical memories.......2006-03-14
I enjoyed this CD very much, as I remember seeing the movie years ago. I grew up watching MGM musicals and this was one of the best. I loved all of the wonderful songs that came from this movie. Great sound on this CD.

If you dig T-bone, don't pass on this cd. The great guitarist is in fine form on this very enjoyable late 60s release. To start off, T-bone introduces himself while tickling the ivories then segues into a spirited, funky rendition of Everyday I have The Blues. This is followed by another great performance of Woman You Must Be Crazy. The rest of the album maintains an upbeat pace with plenty of funky grooves. As a bonus, the session was well recorded.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF SAMMY'S TRADITIONAL STREAK...........1999-10-28
Other than the fact that George Jones is on this album, I did not care for it. Sammy used to be a George Jones-style traditionalist, but we all see now that the songs he records are nothing like George would sing. Therefore, it is even hard to compare his vocal style with George's anymore (although it was easy to do on the first album). This is the last Sammy Kershaw album I bought, and will remain so unless he goes back to recording albums like "Don't Go Near The Water". This is a dud.
When you are the best , You can have all the rest........1999-02-03
He is the best of the best. I would love for him to send a Get Well card to my mom. Then I will know he is the Best.
terrific.......1998-08-30
i think sammy kershaw is one on the best country artists ever. he reminds me of george jones and you can't get any better than that.

Album Description
With a riff-heavy American metal style that draws comparisons to the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age, The Foo Fighters, Metallica, and In Flames, ASG mark their second full-length and third outing on the Van's Warped Tour this summer as they continue to cement their roots in the music and action sports communities. Avid surfers themselves, ASG's roots in the surfing scene stretch from the East coast to Hawaii. Their music has been used heavily in MTV's "Viva La Bam" and can also be heard in "Road Rules/Real World Challenge", VH1's "Remaking Vince Neil", X-Box video games, and countless surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding videos.
Customer Reviews:
10 stars!!!.......2007-03-20
ASG is one hell of a band. with songs like species american and yawn, the guitarr riffs are great. this cd contains the new movement; a bit more metal. In this CD sngs like Dusty Roads, matadors of the heart will really pump u up and want to listen. i highly recomend this cd
Amazing.......2006-07-12
Man, every time I get out this album I wonder why I ever put it away! From start to finish it is perfect. There are some super good riffs to start off. Add some crazy-good vocals and some awesome melodies in there and you have a CD that has it all. Their sound is like surf-punk-metal-southern rock (sorta). There are a lot of influences to this band. I first heard them through a skate video (Volcom's Chicagof)and when I saw the name of the band in the credits I picked up their second self-titled CD. This album is above and beyond that album and it was a killer, too. Do yourself a favor and drop $13 on this. It'll be the best $13 you've spent in awhile.
Great album, buy it!.......2006-06-02
This album is excellent. I've never heard of the band, until I heard one of their songs through Pandora.com. After hearing Matadors of the Heart, I immediately took a liking to the style and sound of this band, and took a gamble in buying their album. What I got was one of the best rock albums I've heard in ages. It is balanced, and has plenty of great tunes. A great mix of heavy riffs and melodic vocals, topped off with some awesome lyrics. ASG definitely have the stuff, so buy this album and see what I mean!
ASG is here to stay.......2005-10-13
Do yourself a favor and by this album. Probably is the best new rock band in a long time. These guys are making rock that is sure to stand the test of time and Feelin' Good is Good Enough is no exception. It is there best mastered album so far. The lyrics, insane vocal undertones, heavy riffs, and melodic choruses that are evident in every song make this album the simply brillant rock.

not a bad jam.......2003-02-18
very decent j lo with fat joe, and big pun not a bad joint but still I've heard better.
This song makes me Feel So Good.......2002-03-06
This is a great song! The chorus reminds me a lot of a Janet Jackson song for some reason. Same thing with the I'm Real non-remix version. The background for part of the rapping reminds me also of DMX's "Party Up (Up in Here)." I think Big Pun could've rapped a little more in this song but otherwise he does a pretty good job. I think she should've sang in a little lower range because she seemed off on "I FEEL LIKE there's no limit to what I can see..." (FEEL LIKE being where she is off-tune).. Besides that it's an up-lifting song and I like remixes period, so if you do too then this is the CD single to buy! This song in general was a hit on the Hip Hop/R&B charts rather then Pop...and it's too bad. This is definatly one of J Lo's best released songs in her career so far!
J. Lo. versus Thunderpuss and Hex Hector.......2002-02-05
Jennifer Lopez's otherwise nondescript single gets remixed by top producers Thunderpuss and Hex Hector. Of the two versions of "Feelin' So Good," the remix by Thunderpuss is the far superior. However, Hex Hector gives an incredible, Hi-NRG version of "Waiting for Tonight." That version clocks at over ten minutes, but there's not a dull moment on that mix. I'm no huge fan of Lopez, but I loved this disc and recommend it without reservation.
Jenny Lopez! Lookin so Good.......2002-01-07
I believe this is the best song Jennifer Lopez has ever released. The Bad Boy remix is basically garbage and doesnt pack the punch of the original version. By the way the original features the late Big Pun & Fat Joe. The beat to the original is very smooth and Jennifer Lopez sings better than I have ever heard her sing. I believe this is a classic song and the video was nice too(not included). Overall well worth the 3 bucks you pay for it. Or you could just buy the album if you are intent on saving money. On The 6 isnt a bad album by any means so its your choice but this is the best song on that album.
Thunderpuss radio mix.......2001-10-10
This CD has the Hex's Momentous Club Mix of Waiting for Tonight and Thunderpuss radio mix of Feeling so Good which is better than the one that has Big Pun & Fat Joe.

I never learned to dance.......2004-03-14
The Geezinslaw Brothers, Sam and Son, are an Austin, Texas-based comedy duo. The first started performing together back in the 1960s, and they had three songs that made the Country charts between 1966 and 1967. Then they didn't have any more hits until 25 years later, when "Help, I'm White and I Can't Get Down" from this album became a hit. It's a very funny song, which is the highlight of this album. Speaking of this album, it is presented like it is a live album, although all the songs were actually taped in a recording studio. They inserted applause and laughter from a Geezinslaws concert in between the songs, and also added comedy routines from the concert. Most of the songs are of a humorous nature, but they do play a few "straight" songs, including the classic love song "You Belong To Me". By the way, one of the comedy songs here, "Copenhagen", was later recorded by Jeff Foxworthy, of all people. This is a pretty funny album, and I would recommend it to fans of country comedy.

... and it's one of the funniest CDs I've ever heard.
