Queen brought a whole new meaning to the phrase over the top. While rock & roll flamboyance stretched back at least as far as Little Richard, Freddie Mercury continued to camp it up, taking little seriously and smirking at the music's growing pretensions while partaking in them no small bit. Many of the band's singles hold up extremely well, such as "Killer Queen" and "You're My Best Friend". The quartet's canny sense of melody and sophisticated vocal harmonies--not to mention Mercury's raised eyebrow--have traveled well through the years. --Rickey Wright

This CD was my first exposure to Queen. As is evident on this album, this band is absolutely overflowing with talent. Freddie Mercury is a genius, singing his heart out on every single one of these tracks. It's hard to pick and choose, but I would have to say that the standout tracks for me are:

"Somebody to Love": A huge, sprawling song with absolutely mesmorizing vocals from Freddie Mercury and amazing harmonies.
"Fat Bottom Girls": A classic hard rock tune with gorgeous harmonies and great guitar lines.
"You're My Best Friend": A smooth, cool, beautiful, and underrated love song.
"Seven Seas of Rhye": I love the piano on this song, and the classic hard rock feel.
"Don't Stop Me Now": A classic adrenaline-rush of a song.

I love this CD. You should get it if you like Queen. It's very cohesive. And if you don't really know Queen that well, it's a great sampler of their music. There is one problem. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is my favorite Queen song, and its absence on this album irks me quite a bit. That being said, I would download it individually before I would actually buy another album with it.

I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" by one of Rock's all-time greatest bands ever. I give you one of England's pride and joy's and one of Britain's favorite sons, Q-U-E-E-N! "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" was originally released in 1992 on Compact Disc on the Hollywood Records label which is distributed by Elektra Entertainment, a division of Warner Communications Inc. This review is Part 2 of 2. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the overall best informative and most accurate review possible.

QUEEN will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for writing and recording some of Rock's most legendary all-time greatest sacred classic anthems ever. QUEEN will also be remembered for delivering one of Rock's most flamboyant and charismatic lead singer's / frontmen ever. Of course I'm speaking of the late great Farrokh Bulsara, also known the world over as Freddie Mercury. When Mercury met up and joined forces with rhythm and lead guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor, the stage was set and QUEEN would set out to conquer the world. QUENN would write and record many great albums and hit songs throughout the band's whole entire career to highly critically acclaim. Like volume I, "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" would be the result of the many great hit songs that QUEEN would record throughout their entire career. Also like volume I, the album, "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" would also serve as proof, of one of the many great contributions, accomplishments and achievements that QUEEN would give to Rock n' Roll. Also without a doubt, in my opinion, like volume I, "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" also stands as a true testament of the sheer genius and musical creativity of four extremely talented individuals. "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" is also a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band that was truly indeed, far ahead of their time.

It is now time to let the Rock n' Roll music of QUEEN to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking musically. "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" from 1992 picks up right where VOLUME I left off and begins with the forever slow blistering QUEEN trademark Rock anthem that could be heard in stadiums during sports events the world over, "We Will Rock You," this slow Rocker will then develop into the beautifully slow hard Rock anthem "We Are The Champions," the merciless killer Rocker "Another One Bites The Dust," the forever Opera hard Rocker "Killer Queen," one of the most beautiful slow Rock anthems ever, "Somebody To Love," the hard Rock anthem for beautiful overweight women the world over, "Fat Bottom Girls," the amazing Opera Rock anthem "Bicycle Race," the forever beautifully slow QUEEN trademark Rock anthem "You're My Best Friend," the forever 50's like Rock anthem that would have made ELVIS PRESLEY proud, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," (READY FREDDIE!) the breathtaking a*s kicking hard Rocker "Now I'm Here," the mysterious groundbreaking special effects Rock anthem with an incredible falsetto voice arrangement by Freddie Mercury, "Play The Game," the fantastc killer hard Rocker "Seven Seas Of Rhye," the forever bass pumping synthesized Rocker "Body Language," the beautifully slow electric acoustic Rocker "Save Me," the fast paced and energetic hard Rocker "Don't Stop Me Now," the incredible Opera Rocker "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" and the forever danceable synthesized Rocker "I Want To Break Free." Again, like VOLUME I, may I also add that the blistering lead vocals and breathtaking falsetto vocal arrangements by Freddie Mercury was PERFECT and on the mark while laying down the tracks for all of these legendary hit songs. I would also like to commend Brian May for his merciless guitar riffs and licks throughout all of the recordings of these legendary hit songs. I would also like to commend QUEEN'S legendary rhythm section comprising of bassist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor. Their combined perfect harmony sound effort contributed in elevating both Freddie Mercury's blistering lead vocals and Brian May's merciless guitar arrangements to another level unimagined by anyone.

Overall, this is one hell of a compilation album worth checking out and seeking further research and information into especially if you are a hardcore diehard QUEEN fan or a devout music collector. As for all of the curious newcomers and new beginners that are not quite familiar with the sound and music of QUEEN, along with VOLUME I, this is not a bad compilation album or two volume album collection to start off with. Either way you choose, you will have taken a giant step in owning and starting your very own personal QUEEN music collection. You can do all of your researching and album purchases either on Amazon com or at your nearest local Borders Books and Music store. If you ever get a chance, buy both volume albums, you'll be happy and satisfied that you did.

Like VOLUME I, I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary compilation album(s) to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. Without a doubt, this legendary treasure album(s) has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great priceles gem that no hardcore music fan or devout music collector would want to be without.

In closing, Freddie Mercury's untimely death on 24 November 1991 would close the book on one of Rock's greatest chapters and one of Rock's all-time greatest bands ever. OR SO IT SEEMED. The QUEEN legend and legacy is far from being over. As we speak, QUEEN has been touring with former FREE'S, BAD COMPANY'S and THE FIRM'S lead singer and frontman Paul Rodgers to highly critically acclaim. In my opinion, despite Freddie Mercury being irreplaceable, QUEEN'S only chance of carrying on with someone else that is close to Freddie Mercury's talent is with none other than George Michael. When I heard George Michael sing with QUEEN on stage at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, Michael is the only lead singer and frontman alive today that is capable of filling in the empty shoes left vacant by the late great Freddie Mercury. I'm really surprised that QUEEN didn't snatch up George Michael right away. I HOPE QUEEN IS READING THIS! As years have gone by, the contributions, accomplishments and achievements that QUEEN has made throughout Rock n' Roll history speaks for itself. In 2001, QUEEN would meet their date with destiny by receiving the highest ultimate honor possible, by being inducted as members of the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. With this in mind, QUEEN will forever leave their place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. There will also be new stories in the QUEEN legend and legacy that will still need to be told and written. But that, my fellow readers and reviewers, you will just have to stay tuned and glued to your computer and read further more about it at a later date in the near future. Genre Bender's Greatest Hits.......2007-03-03

Although it lacks a few of their best songs, Queen's "Greatest Hits" is a nice starting point for anyone who remembers the band from their glory days and for those just beginning this royal rock journey. I think that few people would argue the point that Freddie Mercury truly had one of the best voices around. He could meld it to any of a number of genres of music and that's well-evidenced on this album. From the anthemic "We Will Rock You" to the rockabilly "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," to the groovy, urban stylings of "Another One Bites The Dust," Mercury and the boys constantly crossed genre lines.

Highlights including those previously mentioned are "I Want To Break Free," "Save Me", "Killer Queen," "Somebody To Love," and the wonderfully strange "Body Language." My personal favorite is "Fat-Bottomed Girls."

Fans of arena rock bands like Styx and Foreigner will surely enjoy Queen, although Queen is on an entirely different level than those bands. They are classic rock royalty and I highly recommend you snag "Classic Queen" to get a more complete understanding of Queen's broad-reaching style of music.

Why is Idina Menzel's name not splashed on the covers of magazines? She's got the looks, she's got the connections(hello, ultra famous husband?) and she's got the talent-ten times more than any simpleton on the music scene right now.
A fan to the core, I admire Idina from way back in the day-Rent OBC-to the more recent projects-Wicked, Rent the movie, etc etc. and I can say that this is by far the best exhibition of her talent. Why is this not an international bestseller? This is truly beyond me.
Menzel has an incredible voice, and amazing song writing skills. The songs she sings are so full of that very Idina-y personality that you just can't get anywhere else. Who else could pull off a "Think Too Much"....genius. I've never thought about Guys in Tuxedos before listening to this song, but now that I think about it, they are kind of decieving. She has that blues-y charm and deep voice that despite what you may say would knock Shoshana Bean on her kiester and blows everyone and anyone out of the park. I highly, highly reccomend this CD for anyone who likes pop,rock,blues,jazz, broadway, or just plain talent.

This is one HECK of a first album! The songs are awesome to sing and dance to. The song that definately deserves the title of "Best Song" is a combo of "Planet Z," "Minuet," and the title song, "Still I Can't Be Still". This, and any of Idina's work, is worth getting, just to hear that VOICE!

If you love Idina Menzel in either of her major broadway roles, you will love this CD. The lyrics seem a little random, but I get the feeling, that is Idina for you. Having written all the lyrics herself, she preforms them with a passion and formiliarity, not all artist acheive. I would and have recomended this Cd to anyone who has at least heard of Idina. I love it.

I first heard this recording at a session at the 2007 conference of the Association for African American Historical Research and Preservation and I have been listening to it ever since. This CD really is a celebration of music.

I have put in this CD without telling people what it was and have enjoyed the totally positive response.

I bought this CD because of the great reviews and didn't like it at all. Too loud and abrasive for my ears... I gave it away to someone who might better like it.

I expected it to be mellifluous and soulful but found it rather annoying... especially at the holidays.

there is nothing more i could say about this cd that the other reviewers haven't already mentioned - it is a must have for anyone, even if you are not a fan of christian music. i had never even heard of this project - i bought it soon after it came out, simply because i liked the cover art and thought it would be a good cd to have around christmas. it's better than that - i listen to it year round. every song, no matter what style, is delivered with all heart and soul possible. excellent lift-you-up music, and great to listen to in the mornings to get you pumped up for the day. "and he shall purify" is simply electrifying. i am also a big fan of the final song, "halleluja!" and "but who may abide the day of his coming" will just set you free! year round, this is an outstanding example of gospel, jazz, hip-hop and absolute zeal for any music lover.

Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration is a masterful interpretation of an age old classic. The arrangements are sheer brilliance. My hats off to Mervyn Warren and all those involved in this project.

OUTSTANDING!.......2007-03-16

This album won a Grammy many years ago. I saw a Gospel Choir perform the Halleluah Chorus live at the award show. Since then I have not only enjoyed the recording tremendously myself I have given it to several people at Christmas time and they have been equally enthralled. I loaned it to my son's High School Choir teacher and finaaly made it a gift when he refused to give it back!

This cd has most of Blue Magic's classic well-known and little-known selections. I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to all "Old School" '70's music enthusiasts. Listening to it brought back many pleasant memories of basement parties and high school dances.

The quality of this cd is higher than the other 2 "Greatest Hits" cds commercially released to the market. However, unless all the group's albums, in mint condition, are in one's soul music collection portfolio, the songs not on this cd warrant the acquisition of the other cd(s). The group, featuring lead singer Ted "The Wizard" Mills, produced enough sweet soul gems to firmly entrance the group into what would be the "Sweet Soul Hall Of Fame"! The anticipated release of several of their albums on cd will allow access to a number of other gems never before released on cd. I must admit that I tracked this album after listening to 'Look me up' on the radio during an excellent soul show (Soul Cellar). I wanted an album that had as many tracks as possible in the hope that there would be some other gems. I was not disappointed. All n' all a very delightful album and, one for any soul fan's collection.

i'm a little behind in the 70's cause i born in the late 70's, but i'm one of the best collector of old school love songs ( SPELL ) is my favorite song BLUE MAGIC made 8 or 9 album their 1983-(magic #) is hard to find but i found it in baltimore,md for 25 dollars--BLUE MAGIC is also one of the first soul groups to be on a rap label called ( DEF JAM RECORDS)-back in 1989 record title called (FROM OUT OF THE BLUE)

Received this as a gift over the holidays, and wow.... just, wow. Allison's singing is remarkable in a way that is difficult to put to words. There's an essence to her singing, a vitality that you can appreciate only in the experience. It hit me while sitting in a candle-lit living room on a cold night sipping tea with my lover, and finding that we both were suddenly moved nearly to tears by this great CD. (Yes, I'm referring here to the hauntingly good rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah").

The song selection is great (doesn't hurt that Allison's included "In My Life" -- one of my favorite Beatles songs), and this has certainly made it into my stack of favorites. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

The versions of traditional songs are very good. I think she has a very good voice. This is a nice simple clean album. It is built on talent and passion. Sometimes it reminds me a little of Cher on the more upbeat songs and a bit like Norah Jones on the softer pieces. This is a hidden little masterpiece.

The first full-length effort from second-season American Idol winner Ruben Studdard is an unassuming album that will surely please his fans. Studdard works in the vein of mainstream R&B crooners like Luther Vandross; here, he even covers "Superstar," the Leon Russell/Bonnie Bramlett song associated with Vandross. Other familiar material includes a close, if foreshortened, copy of Al Green's version of "How Do You Mend a Broken Heart," and the standard "For All We Know," so memorably sung by Billie Holiday on Lady in Satin. A fair bit of time is spent making sure we know that despite his success, Ruben hasn't changed. Indeed, he comes off as modest and charming; as for electrifying, he's less so. As a CD that could've easily pandered much more to the whims of casual TV viewers, though, Soulful is a perfectly acceptable debut. --Rickey Wright

Now comparing him to Luther Vandross and Barry White, are u crazy that is like comparing beer to champagne. I think is style of music appeals to acertain group of people that are particulary into soul, as where Clarkson was more of a pop sensation, I doubt that will be toppped. CLAY you were ripped off.

After reading all the reviews, I was expecting to love this CD. But the music starts to all sound the same. It's Brady's version of Bob Dylan-ish music with kid-like beats and words - but much of it is boring. It's not terrible, and my daughter gets a kick out of some of the words, but all in all, I suggest her other music CDs and I wouldn't recommend someone buy this one.

WOW! Brady's latest album is his best. The tunes are growing up (as are our kids). They are still young and fun, and yet "cool" enough to keep our 6 and 8 year old boys' attention.
I especially enjoy the title track "I Found It'.

This is one of those situation where a few years from now, you'll say, "I knew him when..." because there is no better kids music out there. The tunes are great and the lyrics capture the sweetness, silliness, and innocence of youth. Brady has 2 kids of his own and is well aware that kids' music is listened to by both kids AND parents. If your kids are like most, not only do they not mind repetition, they relish it, so it is a huge bonus that this music is so great to listen to. I really like this album, with Look at My Belly a close second, while my son's favorite is Fall Leaves. Buy 'em all and you won't be sorry.

This is the children's album we've been looking for. "I Found It" is a pretty apt title. The kids adore Brady's tunes and-- incredibly-- so do we. Nothing against Raffi or baby belugas, but a lot of music aimed at kids is pretty hard to take. Some of Brady's stuff, on the other hand, stands up to the best of adult rock. If your own idea of great music is Neal Young or Dave Mathews, you are in for a treat. We stumbled upon this, then went and bought the other albums by Brady. All are wonderful.

Smooth, beautiful playing, every bit as lovely as "Winelight", which was the first album of Grover Washington's I ever heard and the one that made me fall in love with his playing.

disposable music from an indisposable legend.......2002-03-26

The two aspects of jazz I enjoy most are the complex
rhythms that it tends to offer as well as the interaction
between musicians and their instruments. Unfortunately little of
that exists on this recording. Although it may work for some listenters, I find electronic drum beats and a general lack of musical accompanyment a tragedy of modern music. I know, it's the music that tends to sell these days, but if it wasn't for Grover's sax playing, there would be little if any soul or swing on this recording. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy a few of the tracks: Village Groove, Headman's Haunt, and Mystical Force, but I need more than three tracks to induce me to queue up a cd for full listening. I fully understand that Grover has always been into funk and soul jazz, but considering the quality music he has made in the past, I'm surprised that toward the end of his career his music devolved into something one would hear in an elevator.

Another masterpiece by Grover who never failed to please. His passing in December left a huge void and his talent will be hard to replace. Anyone who fails to love this album cant be a self respecting jazz fan! Of all his cd's this is my favourite and if your anything like me it should appeal to the hopeless romantics out there. As always the tracks are instantly recognisable as Grover's and are best played on a warm summer's evening, a bottle of chilled Chardonnay in hand and preferably a little moon & stars and that someone special.

A Masterpiece............2000-02-11

I purchased this album while I was on a cross-country driving trip in Memphis, Tn. I slipped it in the car CD player and BAM! Soulful Strut explodes into my eardrums. Grover never ceased to amaze me. Village Groove, Mystical Force, Uptown! the list goes on and on. Grover, I can't count times that you played that groove for me. True fans, if you don't have this album, go out and get it. Trust me! You will not be disappointed.. Rest in Peace Mr. Magic.....
