    5 out of 5 stars A must own.......2005-08-28

This is a must own album. One of the fallout bands from Slapstick (yes Alkaline Trio falls into that also), but don't let the fallout stature placed by mean fool you, this album is damn good! Good ole Chicago!

    4 out of 5 stars Danny boy!.......2005-06-19

If you are a fan of the alkaline trio and are a fan of dan andriano's songs in alkaline trio then this cd will be just what your looking for. To be honest only a few songs sound Trio like mainly, "Goodbyes Have Been Said","Please Come Home", and " Another disco party". I think this album leans more towards emo/punk even more so than alkaline trio because the imagery in his lyrics is quite as dark as it had become with Matt Skiba's influence. Danny's voice is a lot more similar to "Goddammit" and his two songs on "self-titled". Like i said if you like Dan Andriano you will probably like this but it doesn't sound exactly like Alkaline trio. I think it is probably better than most of the crap thats on the radio so you can't go wrong. Too bad Tuesday doesn't release an album every 3 or 4 years and maybe do some club show tours.

5 out of 5 stars BUY THIS NOW.......2004-11-16

This cd is one of the best that I own. If you wanted to hear Dan Andriano (bassist from Alkaline Trio) more, then this is all you need. His voice is great, it is before he magically made his voice smooth, it still raw but harmonic. Its hard to explain. Just go buy it and see for yourself.

    5 out of 5 stars excellent cd.......2004-06-07

This is a really good cd. It's kinda Alkaline Trio ish but it's different, which is really cool. It's not as good as Alkaline Trio, because Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano together make unbelievable music. I'd say this album is a 4.5 out of 5.

    5 out of 5 stars Not bad..........2003-03-06

First off, Tuesday has not broken up. They still practice, they just don't tour anymore. Heck, they've even been known to record the odd new song for a compilation. Now that that's out of the way, Tuesday is an amazing band. Their debut LP is amazing, the only thing is I'm more of a fan of the "Early Summer" EP version of "Too Much of Today." Dan's voice is so raw and harsh on that version, it's just so much better. As for what this sounds like, it's difficult to compare. Think "Mr. Chainsaw" (from Alkaline Trio's "From Here To Infirmary"). Good times. Also check out Alkaline Trio, The Broadways and the Lawrence Arms.

New Orleans native Lee Dorsey spent most of his life working as an auto mechanic--"the best body man in the 9th Ward"--but managed, off and on through the '60s, to knock off some of the greatest R&B performances ever put on record. Dorsey's success came through singles--from 1961's "Ya Ya" to 1966's "Working in the Coal Mine" to "Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky" in 1969--which feature the swaying New Orleans style (made famous by Fats Domino) and Dorsey's silky smooth vocals. Wheelin' and Dealin' includes all the hits, as well as a number of misses, available for the first time on CD. --Roni Sarig

3 out of 5 stars I have not heard this CD, but . . ........2002-12-12

I have not heard the Lee Dorsey album WHEELIN' AND DEALIN': THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION. But, reading the song titles, how can a "definitive" Lee Dorsey CD exclude his original versions of "Yes We Can" and "Sneaking Sally Through The Alley," which, years later, were hits for the Pointer Sisters and Robert Palmer, respectively?

5 out of 5 stars Human music from the early 60's........2002-04-23

Lee Dorsey's music has something that immediately attracts and appeals. It may be his smooth delivery, the groove, the bluesy New Orleans R&B melodies, the great piano and horn section, the human feeling... Whatever it is - I loved Lee Dorsey when I first heard him on LP 12 years ago, and I love it now, listening and dancing to his songs with my little daughter.
This is a great compilation, great song selection and remastering. The tunes that catch on quickly are "Ya-ya", "Do-Re Mi", "Ride Your Pony", "work", and "Working in the Coal mine". After a few more times, the rest of the songs catch up with these.
This is fun music, groovy and happy. For some reason I wanr my daughter to grow up listening to this stuff rather than what she might hear on MTV.

5 out of 5 stars Guaranteed to make you feel good!.......1999-05-11

Lee Dorsey is 100%, true, straight from the heart entertainment. There's no one like him. Old folks and children like him, too!

    4 out of 5 stars Three-way studio jamming session.......2003-09-05

Recorded days after the wonderful Blue Train album, this session brought together an unusual cast of players. John Coltrane, Paul Quinichette and Frank Wess on tenor saxophone (with Wess doubling on flute), Mal Waldron running the show on piano, Doug Watkins on bass and Art Taylor on drums.

Probably the most interesting material on this album are the two takes of Waldron's "Wheelin'", a fast romp which provides a battleground for a three-way tenor tussle. Waldron takes an extended solo in his Monk-like awkward but bluesy style, which either does it for you or doesn't.

It's a shame this was released under Coltrane's/Wess' name since it's really Mal Waldron's set and material and probably not in the taste of most Trane lovers, but still worth checking out.

The name Sassafras is derived from the word for an American/Mexican tree root, used to make perfume, dyes, beer and tea. These legendary Welsh Boogie Rockers were founded in 1970 and originally comprised of vocalist/guitarist Ralph Evans, Guitarist Dai Shell and bassist Ricky John Holt. The band split up the same year but then reformed with former singer Terry 'Beefy' Bennett and former Love Sculpture drummer Robert 'Congo' Jones. The band toured extensively, often as headliners, and this hard work, combined with numerous radio broadcasts, paid off with a deal from Polydor Records in 1973. This 2-on-1 features 17 total tracks. This is a great double album release!
I have been waiting the release of 'Riding High' on CD for ages - and now as a bonus 'Wheelin' N Dealin' is included! Fantastic!
The album Riding High includes the classic 'New York Collapse', and the title track - and these two alone are worth the price of admission. The Sassafrass version of 'Ohio' on Wheelin' N Dealin' blows the original CSNY away!
The re-mastering is excellent. If you are new to this band then give them a try.

    Album Description

"After a dazzling studio debut, Cyril Lance returns with a breathtaking six-song live disc from last December that further strengthens the argument that he's one of the most exciting guitar players around today. It finds Lance exploring a wide range of styles with openness and adventure. The opening "I Want the Real Thing" is a gritty rocker in the Little Feat/Sonny Landreth mode, while the 11-minute "I Went Down" is more soulful, with keyboardist Johnny Neel offering a powerful vocal as Lance's guitar soars from melodic phrases to sinewy, spiraling leads. Neel shines again on his own "Blues Ain't Nothing," but Lance and band really show their instrumental prowess on a truly imaginative arrangement of Willie Dixon's "Same Thing." The disc closes with a spirited and funky run-through of John Scofield's "Chank" with beefy Hammond organ riffs setting the perfect backdrop for Lance's fluid and tenacious soloing." -- Mick Skidmore, RELIX MAGAZINE (Sept./Oct. 2004)

Recorded over three nights at some of the best performing venues in North Carolina in December of 2003, this reunion tour sparked some remarkably fresh interpretations and the recordings show just how much fun the band (and the audience) had getting back together again.

Featuring American-Roots music master and Grammy-Nominee Johnny Neel (Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule, Grease Factor...) on piano, B3 organ and vocals, Boston-based B3 organ master Matt Jenson, and Lance's rhythm brothers of many years Kelly Pace on Drums, Chris Carroll on bass and vocals, this is the perfect base for Lance's slide and electric guitar explorations.

LIVE from the OUTSKIRTS pays tribute to the great live albums of the 60's and 70's from the Allman Brother's LIVE at Filmore East, Jimi Hendrix's Live at Monterey, Santana, Little Feat's Waiting for Columbus, all the time keeping that deep blues roots going whether they're jamming over a New Orleans street beat, Willy Dixon's "Same Thing", or a John Scofield funk tune.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Finely calibrated artistic focus. Music for the intelligent........2005-03-11

This is simply one incredible disc. I tend to seek out Live recordings mainly, due to the raw, inspired, creative energy only found on those, and I must say that CYRIL LANCE: LIVE FROM THE OUTSKIRTS may very well rank up there with the best of them, those "definitive" Live recordings that we all dearly love. This is truly epic, world-class material that deserves a lot more attention than it currently has received.

The band is caught on tape in top-notch shape, they are tight and talented, with incredible energy and excitement injected into every single performance. Neel's solid vocals and neo-Juliard-league piano add such a refined and sophisticated touch to the whole experience, and Cyril's guitar work is absolutely riveting. The instrumental sections just go on and on, the whole band pulsating as one balanced, cohesive organism, steadily increasing in energy and complexity, until you just think they HAVE to start winding down, but that's when they shift into high-gear and take off into the Stratosphere. Pure adrenalin rush! The material is a mixture of blues, blues/rock, funk, and soul (while eschewing all cliches), and should appeal to a very wide audience indeed.

The digital recording and final mixdown is of impeccable quality. Rip as lossless AIFF to your iPod and enjoy the sonic purity.

I cannot recommend this CD highly enough.

5 out of 5 stars Cyril Lance- A True Innovator.......2004-10-02

When Cyril Lance moved to North Carolina, the Old North State had a VERY good day.

Lance is truly indefinable by genre, but is acknowledged as a true guitar virtuoso. He can play Blues as authentically as the masters and stacks up excellently against any of today's Jam Bands.

Live from the Outskirts is as fine an example of capturing the essence of the artist's live performances as has come along in quite some while. The album sounds studio quality while capturing the energy of an Outskirts performance perfectly.

Cyril has surrounded himself with some of the finest musicians in his adopted State. B-3 ace Dave McCracken can hang with anyone who has ever played the organ. Kelly Pace is the drummer who everyone wishes could be in his or her band and Bassist/singer Chris Carroll has the chops and voice that excite music lover.

This is a perfect follow-up to Cyril's breakout release, Stranger in My House, a definate must-own release. Anyone who appreciates awesome guitar playing and exceptionally well crafted songs will love these two items.

And on a personal note, Cyril is a wonderful person and an absolutely driven musician as well.
