When the makers of Toy Story 2 went looking for a story that Woody could own in the celebrated sequel, they settled on thickening the plot by making Woody the former star of a 1950s-era television variety show. In the wake of the film's success, Disneyland launched an immensely popular variety show spinoff featuring some of the music on Woody's Original Roundup. Subtitled A Rootin'-Tootin' Collection of Woody's Favorite Songs, this imaginary soundtrack to a fictional TV show is spiritedly played by cowboy band Riders in the Sky. The songs are compact ditties that kids will fall in love with--especially the title track, the darling "Jessie, the Yodelin' Cowgirl," and the hit "You've Got a Friend in Me." I bought this CD strictly based upon other people's reviews, as I had never heard Riders in the Sky before. My kids (ages 2 1/2, 4 and 5 1/2) ask for this CD often---especially my youngest! The CD is peppy and fun and enjoyable to listen to--even after the 50th time. If your kids like TOY STORY 2, then chances are very good that they will enjoy this CD as well. Even my husband enjoys this CD and he often balks at "kids music" that isn't familiar.

Buck Howdy is the only CD I have ever bought my kids that I havn't wanted to run through the paper shredder after a few days. The music is fantastic, wholsome, and 100% bearable

We first discovered Buck Howdy when he played a benifit concert at my children's school last year. He donated his time as a fund raiser for our school. My kids and I had a blast listening and danceing to his music. We purchased his CD's that night. My kids (ages 8, 6 and 3) continue to love listening to his music. We were lucky enough to have him back last week and I made sure to tell my neighbors. They came and loved his music as much as we do. Thank you Buck for your generosity.

We love Buck Howdy.......2006-05-17

We discovered Buck Howdy when we borrowed a CD at the library. It was so entertaining we had to own his albums. My sons (5 & 7 years old) particularly enjoy "Buffalo Bob," about a cowboy's flatulence problems which result from a diet consisting only of beans. It's very silly, and a tiny bit rude, which makes it even more fun. His lyrics are amusing, clever, and easy on adult ears. From his fiirst album we like "Buckaroo," which gives advice on what to do if you want to be a cowboy ("Can't wear a suit with a railroad tie, can't honk a saddle horn and make it toot"). We hope he comes East for some concerts!

If your child is a fan of the Toy Story series, then this CD is a must. It contains many catchy "cowboy" tunes which your child will just love signing along with and dancing to. My 2 and a half year old daughter is so excited by the music, as soon as she hears it she has a smile from ear to ear and I enjoy it because of the unbridled joy it brings to her. (Just between you and me - you will find yourself singing the songs to yourself, well after the music has been turned off.)

This is one of those albums that didn't sell when it first came out, but it's getting revisited by the younger generation like us.

Fred Jackson, wasn't the most known recording artist for Blue Note, nor was he the most popular, but the cover art seems to be a BN staple.

Fred Jackson was basically a rhythm and blues saxophonist, and for some reason, he wanted to play jazz, so he got together with some musicians and recorded this album.

All the tunes are blues. This is most definately a soul-jazz ocassion. The songs are groovy, the melodies aren't exactly genious, and the album swings. This album might be anything from a classic, but its nice to sit back and groove to.

Side men to the fore.......2001-12-01

This album offers a unique chance to hear two of the music world's most solid session players in a no-pressure jazz groove. Fred Jackson's horn has been giving quality support to all kinds of artists for decades (check out his listing in AMG). Here he shows he is more than capable of remaining inventive way beyond sandwiched session breaks. His improvisations never flag once throughout the album. Organist on the session is none other than Motown bandleader, Earl Van Dyke, just around the time Mickey Stevenson gave him the job. He would go on to develop and define The Motown Sound, as well as being one of the hottest Hammond players on stage. Here, though, the 'Chunk of Funk' exhibits little of the dazzling solo phrasing heard in later recordings. Instead, he demonstrates how he came to be recognised as the best accompanist in the business - especially on the first seven tracks, whose basslines he creates on the pedals of the B3 organ. As he would later do with Robert White, James Jamerson and Benny Benjamin, Van Dyke melds with Willie Jones and Wilbert Hogan to form a single entity, alive to every turn of Jackson's tenor. This album is still a joy and a worldwide favourite, forty years on.

This is an excellent tenor/organ disc of what was originally two records, by an artist otherwise forgotten. Jackson has a strong tone and is an excellent blues improvisor.

A Great Collection!.......2003-06-13

We bought this CD for our two year old daughter, but I think that we love it even more than she does. Riders in the Sky is a wonderful group, and this album features some of their classic kid-friendly songs reworked into a Toy Story 2 theme (for example, "How Does She Yodel?"). This collection is a great introduction to cowboy music for both kids and adults, and it has already caused me to fill my Amazon.com wishlist with other Riders in the Sky titles (and Sons of the Pioneers, too)! It really reminded me why I liked cowboy music in general and Riders in the Sky in particular...

The Rootinest, Tootinest Album in my kids' collection!.......2001-10-23

After the movie "Toy Story II", our kids pretty much took on the names "Woody" and "Jessie" in their playtime adventures. When they got this album for Christmas 2000, it automatically became their favorite. What I love about it is, not only do my kids (ages 2 and 4) love it, but it's music that I can enjoy, too. I have always enjoyed "Riders in the Sky", and this style of music is just right up my alley. It is good, clean, fun music that is just the right combination for both young and old to enjoy. I would highly recommend this album.

and can'tget enough of this CD. He loves anything to do with "Toy Story 2" so this is a wonderful addition to his collection. He loves to dance to the music and especially enjoys the "bullseye" song.
