About the Artist
I was born and raised in Middletown, Connecticut where I began studying the piano. I developed such an interest in music as a result of my home environment. My father, an Apostolic Bishop, always kept instruments around the house and my mother played the piano and sang.

My father paid for piano lessons for me and my brother Walter when I was 11-years-old. He intended for us to play for the church and we did. I played the organ and my brother played the piano. As a long range plan, my father thought that my brother and I would perhaps teach music as a career. Yet, secretly, my heart envisioned a different path. I wanted to be a performer.

The reason why my intentions were secret was a result of the Apostolic Faith in which I was raised. The Faith teaches that it is wrong to listen to secular music. I recall my sister having a Stevie Wonder 8-track tape hidden upstairs under the dresser in her bedroom and I remember quietly sneaking upstairs, listening to Stevie. It was then that I discovered the magic in his music. Stevie represented all that I aspired to be. I could identify with his music and message.

My thirst for music deepened. During the summer months of high school, I studied piano music courses taught by high school teachers. It was at that point, that my father died. All my dreams shattered. I gave up my dreams of going into the entertainment business and planned for college. I envisioned a writing career and to that end started writing my autobiography. However, I continued to play for the church. I knew my father would be happy if I continued to play.

I graduated from high school in 1982. At his time, I went through another transition in my life. Musically, I gravitated away from church and started to pursue a career in entertainment. I obtained my first professional keyboard, a Korg Poly-61, with money saved from my part-time job at Caldor's. Playing the keyboard was heaven. I began performing gigs in the community, such as weddings. My ability to write and arrange gained new heights. By 1985, my music was being played over some of the college stations. In addition, I did interviews and made the front page of the local newspaper. I spent time around the musicians, professors and the radio station at Wesleyan University, very close to my home. My music was in the air.

In 1987, I entered a studio to record my first album. My brother Larry supplied the money for this endeavor. Due to a lack of direction, I ended up spending a few years trying to complete the project and eventually gave up on it. However, I had to find out why things didn't work out. I needed to do some musical self-evaluation.

I decided to change musical direction and study jazz improvisation so I took private lessons at Wesleyan. I paid for the lessons by working part time as a telemarketer at the Middletown Press. Jazz improvisation allowed me the medium for self evaluation . I started to write and arrange again.

It was at this point that another tragedy occurred. In 1991, I was struck by a car while taking a walk one evening. This was a major setback. I stopped playing due to the injuries and it seemed all hope was gone. But somewhere inside, I knew that things would one day work out. I began to overcome my setback and was able to put it behind me. It was time for a new beginning, time to start a new chapter in my life. In 1994, I began working as a music accompanist at Wesleyan. Once again, music was my world. I began writing and arranging again. I could feel the magic in the air. A few years later, I began working on another recording. It was almost completed when I began facing more difficulties. This time they were technical. My computer drive crashed and I lost all of my material. I replaced the drive and soon began putting the CD back together again. This time I was not quite as happy. On June 19th, the CD was completed and it was released on September 7th. "What's Up Little Man" was born. It is dedicated to my 7-year-o

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great to Hear All those great Voices from the Past.......2007-07-05

I just wanted to confirm what the first reviewer had to say about this CD. To hear Ethyl Merman, Mary Martin, Andrea McCardle etc. singing their trademark songs brought a lot of memories from the mid-centry musical theater back again. The last song by Glynis Johns is especially poignant.
You certainly can't beat the price!

5 out of 5 stars A Good One!.......2006-11-10

This is a very good CD, mostly because it's the original artists. I've had some that were re-recorded by no name artists that were ghastly. This one is a really good one--including the sound quality. If I had one wish, I would wish it were longer!

5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

            Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A bargain collection of showtunes.......2005-08-19

This bargain collection of showtunes is highlighted by the composition of Kurt Weill and the uniquely rolling tongue of Colette Lyons. I have a complaint about this compilation. It includes "Ol' Man River", but it excludes Al Jolson's rendition of "Ol' Man River." Otherwise, this collection gives you ample bang for your buck.
