Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack Available on New UK DVD.......2007-04-12

Unfortunately, this amazing album is now out of print. Used copies, when available, are appallingly overpriced. There is, however, some good news. The new DVD released in the UK by Eureka comes with a soundtrack-only option (amazon.co.uk). For about $25-30 USD, you can own both a great version of the film and, in essence, this album as well. Since I own a component stereo and play music through my DVD player anyway, I find it's the next best thing.

The only catch is that you must be able to play PAL DVDs.

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating music of 'La planéte Sauvage'.......2002-02-04

Quite too rarely we can nowdays here as beautiful music than this of Alain Góraguer for the film 'Fantastic Planet'. It really is therapeutic and calming, it has no time and no place, it's universal.

5 out of 5 stars Not Sure What The Guy Below Is Tallking About. This Is Great.......2001-06-01

The guy who reviewed this album below said that this album is of bootleg quality with horrible sound and no liner notes. I totally disagree. The sound is very clear to me and the booklet is 14 pages long with numerous images of the film, background info on Alain Goraguer, plus the artist, the director, the writer and the film itself. True, there are no musical credits, but it's fairly obvious what instruments are being played here. He also complains about background noises, such as characters walking. Huh? I have no idea what he's talking about here. So the music itself...it's brilliant psychedelic-funk-jazz-soundtrack stuff. A simple, but wonderful, bassline here, some wah-wah guitar there, flutes, strings, etc. Like most great soundtracks, there are a few themes here that get repeated in numerous variations. Anyways, this is great music in a beautiful package. If you like David Axelrod, Serge Gainsbourg's "Histoire De Melody Nelson" or even Air's "Virgin Suicides" score (although this is infinitely better I think), you would love this album. Hey, it was even sampled on Quasimoto's "The Unseen"!

1 out of 5 stars Background sounds are distracting!.......2001-05-23

I have loved this movie since I was a child. And the opening sequence music has always given me chills. I was thrilled to see this soundtrack available and I ordered it immediately. However, this CD seems to be almost of bootleg quality. The packaging is cheap, with no real musical relevant notes (ie. list of musicians or instruments) and worst of all the music itself seems to be recorded directly off the movie. The other soundtrack sounds such as the "Flying Beast" sounds to characters walking is incredibly distracting. I expected more of a "soundtrack" of just the music. There are only a few tracks that are just music, but not enough to make it truly worth it. Even though the music is definitely important and interesting, in terms of it's composition and deployment it is very hard to tell because of the other sounds. You might aswell play the movie w/ your eyes closed.
