Music for the Future [and the Past].......2007-04-27

You have to give this a listen! It is an undiscovered masterpiece. Put on the headphones and sit back while the keyboard, percussion and, of course, bass take you on a musical journey which touches on many of Jaco's past outings with Joni Mitchell, Weather Report and Word of Mouth. The echoes are subtle but unmistakeable. At times it becomes trancy in effect and you just want to add a dance beat for a while so it really takes off. Doubtless Jaco would be doing that nowadays! His bass playing is some of the best I have heard. The textures are breathtakingly dreamy...jungles, deserts and oceans intertwined with urban landscapes. This is timeless music. Dream on...

Why....? Why does this thing exist?.......2007-02-05

ok... even being a fan of Jaco (although I am equally impressed with Weather Report featuring Miroslav Vitous), this can be considered nothing more than a joke. A joke against unwise Jaco fans who will grab ANYTHING site-unseen of Jaco's.

When I heard this, I was less than bored.... I was annoyed. What is suppose to be a soundtrack (defunct film or otherwise) sounds more like two kids in a garage noodling around with a department store-bought Casio computer, clicktrack and all.

If you want a 'raw' recorded document of Jaco, find yourself the infamous 'Live in New York' discs, now out of print but available used (from Big World music). These were recordings of Jaco in NY clubs with a variety of musicians, including Hiram Bullock and (disc 5) Mike Stern.
