I ordered this CD to practice the various waltz steps. It is perfect, not too fast and a nice variety of waltzes, some vocal, all very useful in our quest to become decent ballroom dancers!

Yikes!! Singing is way out of tune!.......2006-04-06

The singing is terrible on "Fly Me To The Moon". Don't take my word for it. Listen to the free sample supplied by Amazon.com . At 16 seconds into it, when she sings "all I worship and adore", she goes almost a whole note sharp for several notes! Even someone with no musical training can hear it.

The rest of the pieces sound fine.

This is it! If you're looking for a CD for your Waltz dances, especially for your wedding first dance. This is 'D' one! Also perfect for beginners who're learning to waltz. All songs (vocal and instrumental) are in the range of 28-30 mpm. Very easy to follow and dance to. It took me several weeks to find this CD and it's well worth the time spent.

Just average, needs more bounce!.......2007-01-27

This album needs more zip, more bounce, more fun! Foxtrot can be smooth, but it is also an opportunity to strut your stuff. None of these really strut.

Tracks 4, 5, 7, 9, & 16 are danceable, but certainly not often because they are boring.

Tracks 10 & 11 work as Foxtrots, and they almost strut.

Track 14 is the only Quickstep here I would bother with.

Hmm. Most of these titles are available elsewhere, so three stars is generous.

Solid dance music.......2007-05-12

I like all the tracks except for the tangos. They are too fast for my taste, but the sound quality is excellent for all.

All of the tracks are played by the Dennis Hayward Orchestra. If you like the Columbia Ballroom Orchestra, or the Swiss Ballroom Orchestra, buy this double album! There are 41 well recorded instrumental tracks with carefully measured tempos. You will enjoy practicing to this music and for just 30 cents a tune!

There is a full orchestral sound in the waltzes and foxtrots on the first disc. The quicksteps are exceptional and they make me want to dance. Disc two is better than the first. It makes good use of brass and woodwind solos, and the Latin percussion is well done. The rumbas are especially good. Let's hope there is a volume two.

Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson trading licks--what more do you need to know? Toss in a fine solo or two from Josh Graves's Dobro, Paul Warren's fiddle, or Charlie McCoy's harmonica. Sure, the songs are the simplest of springboards and the running time is abominably low (less than 25 minutes), but it's hard to find fault when Scruggs's banjo magically rolls and Watson's flat-picking fingers fly. Both men have always shared an ability to make the impossible sound effortless and virtuosity sound elementary, and this 1966 gem is further proof of that. Flat Picking At Its Best.......2000-07-22

This is an example of guitar flat picking at its best. With Flatt, Scruggs, and the addition of Doc Watson's genius, there is no way this CD could be anything but fantastic - and it delivers as you might expect...If I had to pick one bluegrass CD on the merit of instrument playing alone - this would unquestionably be it. The only downside is there is less than 30 minutes of music - I wish the trio had cut twice as many selections...

A must for bluegrass lovers........1998-06-22

A must for lovers of bluegrass guitar and banjo pickin' by three of America's greatest musicians. Some classic stuff and, thankfully, some pieces I'd never heard. Very high quality recording. Unfortunately, there's only 11 cuts and I could listen for hours.

Great Dance Music!.......2004-08-09

I have thoroughly enjoyed this CD. All pieces are performed at 54 measures per minute; playing time is between 2 and 2.5 minutes on average, the longest being 3 mins 19 secs. A few pieces have very brief introductory measures. The orchestration is also pleasant to listen to. The only reason I did not give this album 5 stars is that I have heard more sophisticated orchestrations [but at least 5 times the price].

I'm no bluegrass expert, but this album is smokin' in my opinion! Though it is on the short side, the musicians are outstanding on this one and it is well worth the price. The lack of vocals makes you concentrate on the music, and it is some of the best I've heard to date. An album doesn't have to be modern to be good!

Don Reno is the man.......2004-07-19

Don Reno proves that he is the man on this CD. The tracks are a collection of instrumentals recorded between 1954 and 1964 but they still sound very fresh today. If you like Scruggs style banjo pickin you will love this CD.
