Editorial Reviews
Drawing inspiration from jazz greats Louis Armstrong and Harry Connick Jr. shows in Calgarian Johnny Summers. The jazz musician's sound is reminiscent of Connick's easy-going style, with touches of Armstrong's sweet trumpet melodies.
Summers began his musical experience at the age of four, on piano. He moved to trumpet, which he studied for six years. Summers graduated from the U of C with a Bachelor of Music in jazz studies at the age of 21.
Since then he has continued perfecting his craft through relentless practice, composing and performing. Summers also set up a production company, Summertime Music to showcase his own music as well as the musicians with whom he performs.
The release of his latest CD mixes a number of styles, from be-bop to swing to modern, Latin and even funk. The album contains six original songs as well as five standards. He recorded it with the Johnny Summers Quartet, featuring Summers on trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals, Chris Andrew on piano, Chris Orr on acoustic bass and John de Wall on drums.

Johnny.......2003-05-30
I saw him do a show live downtown once and they were selling CDs there. I got a copy of this album and I really think it's pretty great. I play the trumpet but I'm not a real expert on all the great artists out there; I do however, know what I like and this album is something I like.
The tracks don't all sound the same. He uses both the flugel and the trumpet throughout this CD and some of the tracks have more of a blusey feel while others are quick tempo and moving. I would recommend you buy this album if you are into trumpet/flugel/vocals/jazz/blues.
