Delicious melodies which linger long after the music fades........1999-04-05
With her sweet husky voice, Sarah Partridge sings classic jazz melodies taking the listener to a previous era. At once you are in a smokey jazz club listening to the haunting songs which linger in the mind long after the music fades away. Each time there is something new to appreciate--a sensuous piano, a pure note of longing. Ms. Partridge shifts from slow ballads to quick uptempo skats. She has the voice and the hunger that leaves a lasting impression and only makes you long for more.
Fresh, bright jazzy style.......1998-08-23
Ms. Partridge has a lovely , bright style. She is very sensitve to each lyric and the back-up is terrific. I hope she records again soon.

When veteran singer-pianist Teri Thornton delivered her stunning performance to win the 1998 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition at the Smithsonian Institute, she was regaled with a thunderous ovation. I'll Be Easy to Find, Thornton's Verve debut, clearly shows why. With her mature voice and evocative vibrato, Thornton gets across big time because she uses her instrument wonderfully and tells a story with each song. It's a story of a life fully lived, a roller coaster tale of career hits and misses--recording for Columbia and appearing with Duke Ellington in the '60s, the recent Monk win and Verve contract--as well as personal dramas such as motherhood, divorce by age 19, and a bout with cancer. You can hear all of this in "Somewhere in the Night" and "I'll Be Seeing You," both songs combinations of loss and hope sung with passionate, informed grace. Likewise, the open-hearted title track is offered with vulnerability and spine. "Feels Good" is the gleeful, bluesy shout of a survivor who has seen it all; its cousins are the funky "Salty Mama," recorded with first-rate Thornton piano, and the upbeat "I Believe in You." Elsewhere, she swings the "Lord's Prayer" by employing a lilting Latin groove and uses an insinuating 12/8 beat to give "Nature Boy" a freewheeling feel. Performances by pianist Ray Chews, saxophonist-flutist Jerome Richardson, tuba player and baritone-saxophonist Howard Johnson and bassist Lonnie Plaxico, among others, round out the appealing proceedings. --Zan Stewart

I actually cried...........2002-12-19
...while listening to the track "I'll be easy to find." I first read about Ms. Thornton in Los Angeles Times and had to buy the CD. When Ms. Thornton sings about pain and loss, you believe her. It's not romance that she sings about but of love in its all deep, dark and painful glory. The maturity of her voice and the range of emotions seeped in her singing make this album a terrific one. It's not a mellow jazz music, mind you, for this one grabs your attention and makes you listen to her every note. My favorite ones are "I'll be easy to find" and "Knee deep in the blues" and of course, the live version of "Salty mama." Ms. Thornton's vocal power in "Salty mama" is absolutely astounding given that she was already in her sixties when she recorded the song. How I wish I had been at one of her concerts!! It's a tragic shame that Ms. Thornton did not receive the accolades and recognition she so richly deserved before she passed away but in us who love her music, she'll continue to thrive and live on.
Deserves more than 5 stars!.......2001-05-09
The other reviews that have already been submitted speak for themselves. Ms. Thornton was a superb singer, and this CD is one prime example of her talent.
Five Stars Isn't Enough For This Infinitely Heavenly Star!.......2001-02-08
If there is a God we may all suffer the punishment for the neglect of this fantastic vocalist-musician. My husband who is a professional musician discovered her and we can't listen to her thick, rich, creamy, acrobatic voice without tears. I am only grateful that I have found her and hopefully her other records will be re-released for our pleasure. God Bless Suzi Reynolds for bringing Teri Thornton to our attention!
God said - Sing it Perfect and you will get to heaven.......2001-01-15
Impressive how Ms.Thornton prays her own music for The Lords Prayer and how the session musicians play. Last 2000, God decided that both Thornton and great flutist Jerome Richardson should play in the heavens. This CD also shows Ms.Thornton in a new and impeccable version of her long time and rare hit Somewhere in The Night, the theme from the Naked City TV series from the 60s. To be listened to on your knees with a handy handkerchief.
WOWWWW!!! Are those all the stars you got??.......2000-09-07
What an exceptional, phenomenal, masterful recording! I picked this CD up at Borders on a whim (thank God for whims)! Ms. Thornton's image standing there on the cover...deliberate, cool, commanding and divine...foretells the listener of what is to be expected...directly yet subtly, like Ms. Thornton's voice...That VOICE!! What on earth inspired such a voice? I have no clue...but I have every appreciation for being a witness! Being a product of the 70's, I was previously unaware of Ms. Thornton's existence...what a joyful day the day I was introduced to this prize of Jazz Vocalists! She will SEND YOU PACKING with one song and SEND YOU SAILING with the next...You'll go in either direction with pure glee and satisfaction! I know of NO OTHER quite like this diva! And I value and admire many...but Ms. Teri Thornton...well; let's just say "I told ya so!" Pure listening satisfaction, with PIZAZZ and MOXIE! Stupendous!!!
