Frank "Son" Seals performs a handful of his best songs on this 1996 live album, including "Your Love Is Like A Cancer", "Every Goodbye Ain't Gone", and "Don't Pick Me For Your Fool".
The sound is very good, and Seals plays some gritty guitar licks, backed by a small horn section. All good, eh?

Well, I know that last bit won't be to everybody's liking, and the trumpet which pops up here and there grates on my nerves as well. But that's a minor quibble, and most of the time you don't even notice it...Seals' guitar and his gruff voice is firmly in control, and fans should certainly enjoy this album. I wouldn't recommend it as the place to start, however; little things the synthetic sounding organ and the grotesque flute solo which marrs an otherwise good "The Sun Is Shining" means that Son Seals and his music is better presented to newcomers on albums like "Deluxe Edition" and his debut LP "The Son Seals Blues Band".

Still, the good easily outnumbers the bad, and when Sidney James Whingfield stays away from the organ and plays the piano instead, like on "I Need My Baby Back", it is very good indeed. And the horns, which aren't scored all that interestingly, actually work really well on the punchy "No, No Baby".
A bit more variation in mood and tempo would have been nice, though.

Even if you don't believe in the reality of spontaneous combustion,this album will make you a believer.You can't go wrong with song titles like'Your Love is Like a Cancer'...The album also features a number of excellent previously unreleased songs,all done by Seals and his live band in their unique manner...blues like molten lava.A historic performance.

If you have never heard a Son Seals cd, this is the one to hear. He rumbles through 60+ minutes of "Bad Axe" blues. Seals sets the ultimate mood in blues with "Mother Blues" and jams all the way through the finale, "Don't Lie to Me". With an eclectic backing band, including an impressive horn section, this is a must hear for all Music fans not just blues fans.

Harvest Box Set: A Fantastic Overview.......1999-08-08

Anyone looking to explore the early years of progressive music need look no farther then this fine 5CD box set. Representing the years 1969-1976 this set is one of the most well put together sets attempted by a major label to put into perspective it's own history. Housed in an oversized book format, the 120 page booklet enclosed features many rare photos of the Harvest rouster as well as an extensive overview. The music inside speaks for itself with many fine moments from Kevin Ayers, Roy Harper, Sid Barrett,Barclay James Harvest, Pete Brown, ELO, The Pretty Things, Deep Purple,Babe Ruth, Gryphon and many more. Highly recomended for all those interested in the formative years of progressive music and it's evolving influance on future music, popular and otherwise.

Whether you are a Christian or not, if you love the blues and blues-rock, you will love this album! Talk about smokin' hot electric blues, this album has that and more! Glenn Kaiser is amazing! What talent! His love for his Lord is very much apparent, but he doesn't hold back musically. His guitar playing and his vocals are the best around. I read a review somewhere and the reviewer called Glenn Kaiser the "Eric Clapton of Christian music." I would have to agree, except Glenn's vocals are much better than Clapton's and very well suited for the blues with his gravelly voice. I can't recommend this album enough! Great production and sound quality, too. Top notch!

After fronting the blues-oriented Christian rock group, Rez (Resurrection) band out of Chicago (ground-zero of the Blues) for at least 10 albums, Kaiser set off on his own with Spontaenous Generation. He shows his skill of traditional Delta style blues in his collaboration projects with Darrell Mansfield (the difference between playing the harmonica and blowin'harp)on "Trimmed & Burnin" & "Slow Burn", tipping their hats to Blind Willie Johnson, Rev. Gary Davis the early motown style in "He Made the Difference in Me," acoustic worship ("Thrown Down your Crowns" & "Time will Tell.") Glenn returns to his pumped-up, grab-you-by-the-throat blues fronting his new Glenn Kaiser Band (Bassist Roy Montroy & Kaiser's musical history goes back 20+ years) in "Winter Sun" & "Carolina Moon." Just as Kaiser/Rez showed Christian rockers in the 70's, 80's & 90's how to rock, Kaiser & friends here shows how Blues can sizzle & boil!

I first became a christian in '92. The music of Kaiser & Mansfield ("Slow Burn", "Trimmed & Burning") kept me going through a very rough time in my life. It's blues in its natural form. Later when I heard "Spontanious Combustion" by Kaiser I was floored. "Winter Sun" I recently purchased. Excellent. You can't go wrong with this duo and thier love of God.

GREAT CHRISTIAN BLUES.......1998-12-29

Glen Kaiser brings quality musicianship to Christian blues. Many do not believe Christians can have the blues, yet if we have any compassion or concern for our fellow man, or regret for our sins, we have the blues. Our Savior, Jesus wept because of His love for his creation, and what He knew the future held. Yes, God sorrows when a soul is lost, when one of his children sin, even God, Himself has the blues. Glen Kaiser's great guitar musicianship, the emotions expressed both instrumentally and vocally are of the highest standards that you would expect from Chicago, or Delta blues. I hope that the record label will re-release this excellent CD. I know that Glen Kaiser's reputation is growing as the word spreads about Christian blues music.

Spontaneous combustion is one of those extra talented power trio from the early 70's.Both albums are fantastic.A powerful Hard rock style with a touch of psychedalism.S.C.'s music could be compared to Deep Purple or the First Blue Cheer's album.
The sound quality is excellent, the production amazingly strong and clear.
Why did Spontaneous Combustion remain in the dark is beyond me.
A gem for all 70's hard rock fans.

excellent British psych/prog trio.......2000-06-04

Led by the brother combination of guitarist/lead vocalist Gary Margetts and bassist/vocalist Tris Margetts Spontaneous Combustion recorded two psychedelic/progressive lps in 1972, the first of which was produced by Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fame. See For Miles Records has compiled both albums on this single disc, 13 tracks and 77 minutes of music. The first album, "Spontaneous Combustion" has excellent group-penned compositions in the vein of ELP, while their swan song lp, "Triad" has looser compositions (also group-penned) and was a self-produced effort. Throughout, Gary Margetts guitar prowess shines and his use of the VCS3 adds texture to the tracks. For fans of early 70s progress rock and psychedelia alike this will be a welcome addition to your collections. The real shame is that the members of the band were so young, teenagers, at the time that they were unable to survive the stress of the music world, else they may have fulfilled the tremendous promise contained in this, their musical legacy.

Smooth and Therapeutic.......2003-03-29

Barney Kessel and the Monty Alexander Trio fit together like red beans and rice. There are few guitarists that equal or surpass the smoothness of Barney Kessel. The MA Trio meshed perfectly together to complement Kessel. I purchased this in vinyl back in 1988 and I have literally worn it out so I am going to purchase the CD. Every song is soul soothing and therapeutic. If you love smooth guitar, add this one to your collection.
