STUNNING 60's "LIVE" SESSIONS~BRAVO CARMEN!!!.......2007-03-25

The Hong Kong Bar at The Century Plaza Hotel was the place to be in the great musical sixties whenever Carmen McRae made her frequent and sold-out appearances at this happening night spot...this great release takes one back to those wondrous nights of sheer musical bliss with Jazz Legend and just plain great singer Carmen McRae! Carmen McRae is in peak form as was the case of all of her great Atlantic Records lp's so don't miss this rare musical treasure and thank you Carmen McRae for these find collections you left behind for us to savor and enjoy and for all those great concerts over the years that many of us enjoyed. There was nothing like going to see Carmen McRae in person and I enjoyed that pleasure numerous times from my teens in 1967 at the famed Shelley's Mann Hole to her last brilliant Los Angeles performance in 1991 at Catalina Bar & Grill where she received numerous standing ovations from a sold out crowd which included many famous faces in the music world...this is the way it always was at a Carmen McRae concert! Enjoy!!!

Live Big Band with Joe Williams.......2002-05-08

Not too much additional can be said that wasn't covered by beeper99 in the earlier writeup. I also had this originally on vinyl and I also believe that "Joe's Blues" is one of the best cuts ever recorded by Joe Williams. Joe was in great form that night....probably in the best period of his magnificent career!

The other cuts are very good..... the band was really cooking that night. Another highlight of the session was Benny Carter's "Souvenir" with the solo by the great alto saxist Marshal Royal.

I picked up the lp version of this CD when it was orginally issued back in 1978. The main reason for purchassing was a recommendation by the now defunct "Stereo Review" magazine, which called the track, "Joe's Blues" one of the greatest moments in the career of Joe Williams. I agree with this assessment wholeheartedly. While the entire disc is enjoyable, this one track makes this a CD for the ages. Because of the way it is labled, this CD is hard to find in most computer files. But I hope others will come across this review or the CD and add this outing to their collection. I am truly glad I am able to add it to my CD collection.

Great 'Live" Lou!.......2001-07-26

This is some of the greatest Lou Rawl's live I've heard. He does an excellant job covering the Beatles tunes. My favorite song on this Album is the Stormy Monday Medley - you get to truly experience the live wit of Lou Rawl's. Everytime I hear this album I want to go back in time to 1973 to Century Plaza for this show and experience the energy that this album delivers!
