Product Description

On January 15, 2005, in a private residence, he recorded this set of eight songs. These songs were recorded in “one take” in the same order as they appear on this disk; between songs Bobby took only short breaks. Before this recording session, Bobby had, for the most part, been away from the piano for 15 years. We are offering this disk to the public at the request of the many people who have heard of the genius of Bobby Lounge, but who may not have had a chance to see him perform.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Lord Have Mercy.......2005-12-03

Reconnecting the roots of southern literary shamanism with the hottest flipping piano licks since Fats Waller, the music of Bobby Lounge, quite simply, rearranges your molecules. The Voice reaches down into your deepest Southern Strands and pulls out recongition, raw-ancestor-process and wild-booty shaking joy. Need some musical medicine for the post-katrina world? Get this cd, keep it close, play it often.

5 out of 5 stars Down Home Extradinaire!!!!.......2005-11-08

As an amateur piano player of many, many years, I can say that this CD collection of songs is one of the most amazing I have ever heard. "Take Me Back to Abita Springs" is mind-bending and spell-binding!!. Bobby's left hand must have been "frozen" after over 8 minutes of continuous harddriving boogie woogie bass!! He is a true virtuouso.

5 out of 5 stars Crazy Wild Boogie Boy.......2005-10-26

Just when you think you heard all the piano blues in the world - here comes this CD. So witty. So inventive. The lyrics are as good as anything - anyone - anywhere - anytime I have heard. And this was recorded in someone's living room. Wow. Where has this guy been? The South - of course!

4 out of 5 stars "Hot", yet pure.......2005-10-16

This recording is one of those milestone pieces - here was a guy in a self imposed exile for 20 years - who was persuaded to record in someone's living room a CD that has caught the whole piano blues community by storm. For a pianist to make his 'debut' to absolutely rave reviews in New Orleans - now that is something. This CD captures the spirit of an incredible pianist and one can only hope for more CD's in the future. I liked this CD because it sounds "hot" yet pure - somewhat like the early Louis Armstrong recordings or like the early Alan Lomax recordings of Ledbetter or even the early Dylan recordings. It is interesting that these recordings were done in "one take" and in the order as they appear on the CD.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2005-10-04

If you are reading this review, you are already in the know. If you like sublime piano playing, great vocals and creative, salacious lyrics, then Bobby is your man. Hailing from the Gulf Coast, Bobby Lounge embodies the spirit and musical tradition of the region.

(...) If you want to sample deliciously unique musical cocktail, then buy "I Remember The Night Your Trailer Burnt Down."

God bless New Orleans, Mississippi, and Bobby Lounge.

5 out of 5 stars Bobby Vee Meets the Crickets/I Remember Buddy Holly.......2003-12-16

This CD is a must have for fans of Bobby Vee and Buddy Holly. Although one of the album covers pictured indicates that it is a MONO recording, it is indeed a STEREO CD. The songs and the CD quality are excellent. I tried for years to replace my Bobby Vee Meets the Crickets Album that suffered through teenage parties and portable record players. Thank you BGO and Amazon for making this CD available.

4 out of 5 stars 2 classic albums on one disc.......2003-09-05

Bobby Vee was a sixteen year old kid when his band "The Shadows" made their first professional appearance at a concert in Moorhead, Minnesota on Feb.3rd 1959. It was the day Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens were killed in the plane crash. These singers, had they lived, would have played in Moorhead. The show went on and local talent was asked to fill in. This was the start of Bobby Vees career. Bobby was heavily influenced by Buddy and sounded alot like him. In 1962 "Meet the Crickets" was released with drummer Jerry Allison, Joe B. Mauldin on bass and a newer member. This album featured a mix of Buddys songs and others. "I remember Buddy Holly" was released in 1963 and featured "Buddys Song" which used titles of Buddys hits to make a song, a fun tune. Even if you have Buddys original recordings you'll want this one as well. I would buy this one!!!

5 out of 5 stars An Undeservedly Obscure Musician.......2005-09-30

This is one of the few albums Lou has made under his own name, and is the only one to receive national distribution. If you enjoy Bobby Hackett, Buck Clayton, Roy Eldridge, Bill Coleman or Bob Barnard you'll enjoy Lou. Dave McKenna and Gray Sargent provide exemplary support throughout.

Incidently, Lou can also be heard to great advantage as a sideman with trombonist George Masso.

5 out of 5 stars sweet as honey.......2001-10-27

i first heard a recording from this album, i remember bobby, while driving across the country one night. i could not wait until i could obtain a copy. lou's sweet sweet music flowing from his trumpet will warm your soul. gray sargent's dexterous guitar work adds a special flavor to this sound. the support from dave mckenna on the ivories, phil flanigan's solid bass line, and keith copeland drumming combine to make this one of the best jazz swing albums ever in my opinion. you will not go wrong adding this to your collection.
    the only problem?
you will want more lou colombo and i have not seen or heard of any other one. our loss. but thanks lou for this one. thank you. thank you. you're beautiful baby.
