Al Hunt, fan
I am speechless as to the overall quality of that CD. It rivals some of my most serious jazz CDs.

T-Pain opens the liner notes to his hotly anticipated second disc with a couple of helpful definitions: An epiphany is "the manifestation of a supernatural being" (definition No. 1) or "a sudden moment of insight or revelation" (No. 2), the opening page puts forth. Because most of the R&B record-buying world knows that T-Pain is not a supernatural being, but a stylish and inventive singer from Tallahassee, it would seem the second definition inspired the title--T-Pain probably felt flashes of inspiration when laying out the lyrics. A single spin ought to convince listeners a little of both factored in, though: Songs like "Bartender" and "Buy U a Drank" send out a southern hip-hop vibe silky enough to be considered a revelation (thanks partially to Akon, who pitches in on "Bartender"). And because the entire album leans hard on the vocoder, tracks such as opener "Tallahassee Love," a nod to Tupac's "California Love," sound otherworldly, a la definition one. Throughout, T-Pain hands out hooks like there's been a two-for-one sale. Maybe they came to him in a series of epiphanies. Or maybe a benevolent R&B being--some supernatural force who knows how to make a hit record--whispered them in his ear. --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-07-03

I noticed a lot of people did not like this album. I thought it was pretty damn good. The reason why I didn't give it five stars is because there are two stupid skit and two song I don't like. That leave me with 13 songs that I really liked. It has both a comical side and a serious side. I suggest you buy this album yourself and see what you think. It makes for good driving music too with a lot of bass. Check it out.

2 out of 5 stars Not impressed; More substance and hits would've been nice..........2007-07-01

So I joined the bandwagon and bought EPIPHANY. Why you ask? Well my friends, "Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin')" was bumping and it was one of the most undeniably catchy (as well as stupid) songs of 2007. I couldn't resist. I'm not a big fan of "clubby" R&B albums, but sometimes i give into guilty pleasures. In some respects with EPIPHANY (which I have to agree with one of the reviewers that this is no "epiphany" by any means), I wish I'd let the album itself pass by and just downloaded "Buy U A Drank". But I had to indulge and I can't help to say that ultimately EPIPHANY is a disappointment. Then, you also have to think mentally, that with such club-savvy artist as T-Pain, Akon, and sometimes R. Kelly (though excluding nis great new album DOUBLE UP), that the club-centric albums only tend to have one hit. Sure, EPIPHANY is good for a couple of worthy numbers (first single and "Church" to name a few), but overall, it is nothing but a mess. Sure, I'm happy T-Pain surprised everybody to take the #1 spot on the Billboard charts, hold back both Rihanna and expected chart-topper Paul McCartney, but still you wonder if people were expecting a real "epiphany" for the money. Oh well.

The album begins with the introductory track, "Tallahassee Love" in which T-Pain not only defines "epiphany" but also gives love back to his hometown, Tallahassee. It is completely unnecessary, as with most intro tracks, but it is actually better than some of the full length tracks on EPIPHANY. "Church" has the most undeniably catchy groove of EPIPHANY with an incredibly soulful guitar riff, tropical sounding drum-programming, and random interspersed "rah!" during the verse. Vocally, T-Pain sounds top notch, even if he is halfway between singing and rapping. T-Pain sounds among the hardest ever when he sings: "***damn, you think you cool, you think I'm not, you think you're tough, ***damn, you think you're hard, you think I'm soft, you think you're rough... I'm gonna have to take you're a** to church..." Sure the song's ridiculous, but it is worthy of spins in the CD player. "Tipsy" features overall repetitive, but sound production work, with an undeniably catchy sounding synth-line. Sure the track lacks substance, but it is the same man who took "I'm N Luv Wit A Stripper" to #6 on the pop charts. "Show U How" is plain annoying and odd, though the hook is well performed. "Suicide" is perhaps T-Pain's first attempt at being serious (it is a song about AIDS), but he falls short, particularly when he uses clumsy lines as "cause I f***** her/ and didn't have a rubber on me." Sure, it is a worthy enough track, but again, it comes over cornier than it ultimately should.

Second single "Bartender" tries to bank on the success of the great "Buy You a Drank", but it also falls short. It isn't bad, but the repetitive piano loop doesn't quite sell as well as the great "Buy You A Drank". Sure, T-Pain jacks his discoverer Akon, but it still doesn't make "Bartender" as top-notch as the inescapable first single. "Backseat Action" features mammoth drums supporting T-Pains heavily produced vocals (that stupid vocal effect again) and proves to be one of this albums few stronger tracks. "Put It Down" is solid as well, making it look like EPIPHANY might have a stab at redeeming itself after a number of misses via "Show U How" or even the utter unconvincing nature of "Suicide". "Put It Down" actually has some very nice moments, even moreso than "Backseat Action". "Time Machine" is a miss, while "Yo Stomach" is OK. "Buy You a Drink" almost comes too late, and is followed by misses that continue all the way to the end of the album ("69", "Shottas", "Right Hand", and finally "Sounds Bad").

It's unfortunate for T-Pain because had he bottled the best of EPIPHANY and perhaps written songs with more substance not so focused on sex or the strip-club, he may have truly had his FIRST epiphany. Sure at times, EPIPHANY is on the edge of at least being average, but with so many misses and with numerous unconvincing moments and a title such as EPIPHANY, a listener can't help but rip on T-Pain. More substance in the future please - you are a talented rapper and vocalist. 2 stars.

3 out of 5 stars I'll take a drink over this album anyday!.......2007-06-28

I only bought this album for the hit single Buy you a drink. And its funny because thats the only jammin' song on there ! Thank God I bought it bootleg for 3 bucks because its not worth the retail price!( Yeah Yeah I know alot of people may look down on others that buy or sell bootleg copies of cd's but hey if the artist only drops one hot single and nothing else what can you expect! Im sure as hell not gonna chance all my money for a cd that dont jam!)

4 out of 5 stars He's different and I like it.......2007-06-22

I decided to take a chance and buy TPain's new album. I love it. I'll be honest and say I didn't expect it to be good at all, but I was highly surprised with some of his tracks. His voice is different and I will agree with another reviewer and say that he's not afraid to try new things with his songs, and for that he stands out. And besides everybody has got him on their album, so what does that tell the haters? :)

Four stars no doubt!

Whether with the groundbreaking group Rufus or on her own, Chaka Khan has one of the most distinctive and influential voices in R&B. She's able to wail at full emotive throttle or deliver a love song with nuanced jazz-inflected tones, and sometimes even do both within the same track. This 1996 collection gathers some of Khan's biggest and most beloved solo efforts. Included here are the classic tangy attack of "Ain't Nobody" and the turntable-enhanced smash "I Feel for You" (penned by admirer and recent collaborator Prince). There's also the anthemic original version of "I'm Every Woman," the moody "Through the Fire," and her 1996 collabo with Me'Shell Ndegeocello, "You Never Miss the Water." As all great vocalists do, Khan takes control of every song, breathing fire and life into the words and interpreting them without overpowering their meaning. One listen to Epiphany and it's abundantly clear that, even though she's been AWOL from the charts for a while, Chaka Khan remains a founding mother of soul and funk, armed with a potent voice that can both illuminate and elevate. --Amy Linden

5 out of 5 stars For the first song alone, it's worth it!.......2007-06-15

I must have played, and can verify via iTunes, "Ain't Nobody" at least 50 times since I've gotten this CD. I've missed this song, and it remains my favorite Chaka song. The lead guitar rocks. As a singer, Chaka is first class. Her enunciation and pronunciation is pristine, not the sloppy drivel you hear with today's youngsters. Hear how she sings of "sweet surrenDER", of love warm and "tenDER". Thank you! She sings in ENGLISH, like the best singers do. She reminds me so much of Aretha Franklin in this. I refused to listen to Rufus and other groups because of the exploitative lyrics, but this collection is proof one need not dismiss Chaka Khan as too "street". She has moved beyond Rufus and has matured into a singer of class.

I chose to revisit Ms. Khan when I heard she did an album of standards that was well-received. I don't have that one yet, but I'm definitely encouraged to buy it because of the material on this CD. At $8, it was hardly a big risk. Now I'm hoping Vol. 2 has the other song of hers I'm familiar with and love, her duet with Steve Winwood!

5 out of 5 stars Start your Chaka collection with this.......2007-06-06

This is awesome. I have most of her solo albums as well but most of them are patchy. (I do like the Prince produced "Come 2 My House" album and the 1991 album "The Woman I Am". No tracks from these 2 albums are on this release) There are also some new/bonus tracks which are worthwhile.
Everyone talks about a track which is missing which should have been on the album. Really a double disc release would have been better for Chaka, but you will love this. A double disc would have included tracks from her 1982 self titled album which is super rare, released on CD only in Japan as well as Clouds, and possibly my favorite track from Chaka which appears on the Beverly Hills 90210 soundtrack feat Michael McDonald "Time To Be Lovers". This is easily the best option for a casual fan as it has the main hits on it and even though it's a compilation, it flows very well and doesn't seem dated even though most of the tracks are from the early 80's.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent audio.......2007-05-31

Regardeless of the fact that you might like or not Chaka's performance, the audio is superb and I think it deserves a place in a selected CD inventory.

5 out of 5 stars Such An Enjoyable Album!.......2007-05-11

After listening to every track on this album, I can truly say that the artist has REALLY put her heart into this work of art. Especially great is the track #10, Through The Fire. I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys a terrific voice and great instrumentals. It is well worth the cost and the time spent listening...

5 out of 5 stars Chaka...so smooth........2007-03-22

To this day, when I am alone and put THROUGH THE FIRE on....and I crank it....and sit back....she makes me shed tears as I imagine her performance in the studio. She doesn't just sing the song....she becomes the song. Amazing vocal range. I'm a huge fan.

This album is a true classic. Every song is incredible. Icepick NEEDS to tour! Got this record at a Hatebreed show on the Agora Small Stage!!!

    1 out of 5 stars Nothing speical.......2007-04-11

I really enjoy Hatebreed, so I figured i'd pick up this cd. While it has a few good songs, the cd is not speical. Jamey Jasta is a busy guy but this is not of his better efforts. The whole cd has been done before and a hundred other acts will probably have a cd like this.

    5 out of 5 stars F the naysayers.......2006-09-09

Sure, it's an excuse for Jamey to do... more of what he always does. Since most hardcore is fairly similar musically, you've basically got a Hatebreed album. A Hatebreed album that is slightly more aggressive musically. And a Hatebreed album that is slightly more fun and adventurous. This album takes what little room their is to move around in hardcore and takes full advantage. It's also an excuse to gather Jamey's buddies to join in on the fun. That's definitely not a bad thing here. All in all, it sounds like a hardcore album in which no one was trying to hard to make the "right" record or an "important" record. Instead they just had fun with it, and that is reflected in the end result. I'll be spinning this one more than Supremacy, that's fo shizzle. Do not let the few people dissing it deter you from at least checking out a song or 2. You'll totally miss out.

    1 out of 5 stars Hahahaha!.......2006-08-13

This is some funny stuff right here, true comedy! The best part? I didn't even need to listen to it to tell you that, because it's just that predictable!

4 out of 5 stars Alright, but Jasta should stick with his day job.......2006-08-08

Icepick is the side project of Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta and Danny Diablo (ex-Crown of Thornz). It's an okay slab of old school hardocre with metalish guitar, but Jasta should have focused on the new hatebreed album instead of this.

This CD is perfect for relaxation. I am a pre-K teacher and use it during nap time. The kids who don't sleep enjoy listening to the music. The songs are absoutely beautiful and unique.

J'ai beaucoup aimé ce cd, relax et très bien fait. Les arrangements sont excellent et la qualité sonore impecable.Pour ces raisons, je lui donne un 5*.Je le recommande sans hésitation.I'M 52 years old.

4 out of 5 stars very relaxing, soothing, and comforting music.......2001-07-22

this is a really good CD...i can listen to it over and over...the sound is very smooth...and well blended...you will enjoy it!

    5 out of 5 stars A Treat Inside Out.......2001-05-06

I am usually a voice-oriented music listener and for that reason it is a huge surprise how much I loved this instrumental album! Everything about this gentle CD is a treat. I wish there were a picture here of the cover, because it is worthy of being framed. First your disc arrives, and you see this beautiful painting on the front. Then you tear off the plastic and open it, to find that the disc itself also has a beautiful painting on it. It feels like a birthday present! Then you stick it in your CD player, and the most lovely sound comes out.

Gentle instruments play instrumental melodies that even those of us who normally prefer lyrics can really get into. It is one happy, gentle, strangely familiar tune after another. It absolutely transforms the atmosphere of your house into a happy, magical place, full of gentle cheer.

When the lovely album is over, you just want to slip it carefully back into all that beautiful packaging, give it a kiss and place it carefully on a prominent place on your CD shelf for everyone to see. It's the sort of album that will never wear out or grow old. You'll want to pass it on to your grandchildren!

    Album Description

The enigmatic American artist Erica Dunham aka Unter Null has impressed both European and American audiences alike with her provocative and blood spilling live shows. With her unique and uncompromising style and attitude, she scored two huge club hits with "Your Nightmare" and "Sick F*ck" without even having an album released!

Written and recorded in Seattle, USA and engineered and produced by studio guru Len Lemeire (Implant, Anne Clark, Dunkelwerk) at the Implant Plant Studio in Gent, Belgium, this 13-track album is the subliminal and percussive creation of Erica's perverse, sick mind. More and more often described as the female soldier in the Suicide Commando league, our sexy she-devil shouts louder than any industrial beast on the scene!

Her extremely distorted and manipulated vocals will definitely blow your mind, while her harsh endzeit electro assaults will offer you a one-way ticket into the abysmal depths of the underworld, sinking down to "unter null".

Erica has set her sights in the line of attack upon the male-dominated world of harsh Electronic Body Music with one sole target: domination and provocation. Unter Null stands for pain, disease and death; rancor, rage and vengeance. You look into her bewitching eyes and let her feed upon your brain. She is your new poison, your new addiction... and she proves with this strong album that against all beliefs -- the Devil is a woman.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars THE CHILD DEVIANT.......2007-03-03

There is something truly fantastic about this album, and yet it is not quite perfect. I really want to give it a full five star rating, but I have a couple complaints.. (complaint 1.), this is one of the only female fronted EBM/Idustrial/electro bands in circulation, and yet the singer sounds like a male on many of the songs (not because she has a deep voice, rather she distorts her voice to sound like a robotic-rivethead-male). (complaint 2), some of the songs sound so close to Suicide Cammando that it is almost hard to tell the difference. Nevertheless, this is a pretty damm impressive album. The absolute best tracks on this album are "sick fu**", "scilence" and "zombieboy". This is still a new band...I anticipate bigger things. Anyways, ....buy this album! The Failure Ephiphany by Unter Null is a verry good underground album despite my 2 complaints.

5 out of 5 stars Bring on the progressive terror noize assault!.......2006-03-27

First let me say I am blown away by the intensity of the handicraft of this album. I've been craving some new very fresh flesh-ripping

ebm/industrial and I have found it! Erica's vocals are so very unpretentious and real, that I don't feel like I am being force fed generic

fuzz. This is seriously Industrial EBM taken to the next level beyond the happy synth-pop the style has largely flowed into. Unter Null has

definitely breathed some new life into a stagnant genre.

    (Song Spoilers Below!)

Bloodlust - An intro track that is certainly one of my fav intros ever! It has the atmosphere of a fused industrial/black metal, the

desolation of machinery and electronics that we rivetheads so love, and the fast hyper ebm that gets you moving. It plays on what you thinks

going to happen and then wham!

Martyr - This track starts out with a familiar goth club ebm feel with drippings of trance but quickly takes off into this swirl of aggro

vocals overlayed against this intense track. The break around 2:50 is an unexpected welcome gesture before Erica brings it up again for the

    ending.

Your Nightmare - Listening to this one can see why it became a club hit. Following in the tradition of the previous track "Martyr", Erica

brings together a fusion of a club trance anthem and hard-edged industrial ferocity. Very hypnotic and energetic! I can't wait to listen in

    the car! Stomp stomp!

Feed the Lie - Woah! Time to switch our rivet gears! This song is excellent! If this song doesn't make you wanna stomp around, you're dead.

This song is worthy of a soundtrack on a sci-fi flick that's for sure. With some super precise white noise samples, the flanging vocoded

effect, and a speed-up trad stomp beat this surely should become a rivet anthem!

Destroy Me - This track is amazing. With the placement of the eerie soundscapes backdropping driving heated beats, I listen in awe as Erica

lays down her raspy sweet vocals. This is definitely a song you can stomp too!

The Failure Epiphany - This track goes back to the "Your Nightmare" style with again a trad stomp but with interesting interplay of her voice

on the offbeats. The progressive chords are a welcome bridge.

Sick F*ck - So far we've heard a lot of synth and processed samples but here now we have a more trad vocal sample reflecting on the track

name. Erica makes no hold on exactly what she's feeling in this song. 1:50 comes in up with the eerienees of creepy B horror movie organ

music. But not for long as Erica tears off into a vocal rampage of some sick f*ck who needs a beating apparently. Her voice is amazing,

    sharp, and deadly. w00t!

Scilence - We start off in modern blade runner kind of synth harmony. But soon find ourselves in a very Wumpscut-inspired world. With heavy

distorted beats paired with the lofty synth and the repetitive hypnotic nature, Erica injects her own personal style taking a familiar form

and kickin it up a notch.

You Have Fallen From Grace - The first minute of this song is completely entrancing! Then without disturbing the beauty of the "gracefulness"

of the flow, Erica steps in with subtle but intense vocals. Here we can a hear a more personal human side reflected in the lyrics.

Stray - We start off with a gorgeous crystalline melody that breaks into an groovebox rhythm. The added asian-flavoured sound later is rather

teasing against this song that seems to restrain from breaking into full assault. Perhaps Erica needed a rest. "I only wish you dead."

The Hook - A homage to old school industrial synth floating in the background, this song also reflects a progressive trance influence. It is

more atmospheric and Erica's voice is barely if at all discernible. This should appeal to fans of more noize-based atmospheric music. Erica

suprises us around 2:40 with a sweeter processed version of her voice.

ZombieBoy - Woot! I love the interplay of strange chord progression! This song is more subdued than the rest but a good listen.

Desire - What stands out at first is the super high soprano synth voices amidst a simple dance beat, but it's the subtle distorted sounds

that make this instrumental piece quite good. This song is an appropriate ender.

5 out of 5 stars Epiphany - by John Serrie.......2007-02-06

I have always enjoyed the music of John Serrie. This CD is inspiring. I often use this music to start the day. I highly recommend it

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not his best stuff........2006-11-10

I am a HUGE Jonn Serrie fan and own most of his CDs. His music always takes me some place wonderful. I was really looking forward to Epiphany and the anticipated spiritual journey. I must admit, however, that this CD just doesn't do much for me. The covers of familiar hymns seem very formulaic (slow it down and blow air into it), and not very inspired or creative. My favorite song on the CD is the one Serrie wrote (Light of Thy Countenance). Fortunately the CD ends with the best two songs, which comprise roughly a third of the playing time.

5 out of 5 stars I Got Lost in this Music.......2006-05-26

This is my first experience of Jonn Serrie's works, and I'm sure it won't be my last. I first listened to this while I was trying to get to sleep; I am a bit of an insomniac. This music calmed and relaxed me so much, that I found myself fighting to stay awake because I wanted to hear the whole CD! And after it ended, I dropped right off and slept really well.

As a Christian, I like the idea of praying and meditating to music. It seems like meditation music with Christian themes are very rare; almost everything out there is Eastern or New Age. But this music lends itself extremely well to prayer and meditation on the Creator. But, in my case, if I use it for that, I'd better be sitting up!

5 out of 5 stars Awe Inspiring! Simply Beautiful!.......2005-03-30

Epiphany...what a great title! I am not big on using fancy words to describe what I hear nor do claim to be a great writer/reviewer, but here is what I have to say about Jonn's latest creation. I am a fan of Jonn's and have been for many years. I love his space music CDs such as TINGRI, FLIGHTPATH, IXLANDIA, etc., but now that I have had a chance to get my hands on a copy of EPIPHANY, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised! It is absolutely Heavenly!

I remember singing these hymns as a child and teenager in the church I grew up in and I remember thinking how great they were WITH words. EPIPHANY doesn't needs words to be beautiful. Jonn has done an amazing job with these sacred hymns that I feel he has captured the real essence of each of them. Each track gives me a new reflection on the beauty of these hymns. I can't stop listening to them. If you slap on a pair of headphones, they are even better! Trust me! Buy this CD and take a real close listen to it. You will see, no hear, what I mean. Very moving. While I listen, I feel as if I am in the company of Angels. So serene, so comforting, so peaceful!

Each track draws on different emotions starting with JESU, JOY OF MAN'S DESIRING. This track brings back memories of joyous Christmases long ago as a child and being with my family as well as the wonderful joining of my soul mate and I in Holy Matrimony 17 years ago. SOFTLY AND TENDERLY JESUS IS CALLING, NEARER MY GOD TO THEE and O MAGNUM MYSTERIUM create a sense of comfort, joy and peace. While BE STILL MY SOUL, ABIDE WITH ME and PRAISE THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY inspire the Spirit within. Oh, I can't forget the ever popular AMAZING GRACE. You have to listen to this one in its entirety to feel its powerful message. Simply beautiful! By far the best version I have ever heard. Jonn incorporates his traditional spacey sound as well, but offers even better ambiance with the lulling sounds of the ocean after AMAZING GRACE. It flows well into the rest of the CD. It brings to mind one of my favorite poems, FOOTPRINTS and in that, I find strength and comfort. There is also a track that Jonn wrote just for this CD. It is entitled LIGHT OF THY COUNTENANCE and let me tell you, it is enveloping. You have to get this CD to understand the power of Jonn's music.

In conclusion, this is a must have CD. Full of inspiration. Jonn still has his signature space music sound intertwined with beautiful waves of chords and melodies. If you listen closely to the very end of the last track, O MAGNUM MYSTERIUM, you can hear the church organ fading in the background. Jonn used to play the organ a few years back and I thought it was a great way to end the album...fading into and out of the sound of one of the greatest sounding keyboards ever played. A personal touch, I think, that ties it all together. After all, the church organ IS the original 'voice' of these and other great sacred hymns and Jonn has taken them to the next level as only he can. I really don't know how anyone could not like this CD. If you like his Christmas CDs, you will love this one. Great CD Jonn!

      5 out of 5 stars Beautifully Done........2005-03-09

Jonn offers here what must be a personal CD for himself, or at least one filled with memories as this is dedicated to his Grandmother who was apparently quite accomplished in church choral and worship music. There are some very familiar "old hymns" here to those of us who grew up in a traditional church but they are done in the classic Jonn Serrie style. Very similar actually to at least two of his Christmas releases (I haven't heard the third), these are pure electronic, space, spiritual, and as the title suggests meditative arrangements of some wonderful classic spiritual hymns. Christians in particular should enjoy this work, as I can personally vouch this gives the music some extra meaning. But really anyone, regardless of their spiritual beliefs, should enjoy this CD if he or she is already a fan of Jonn's. I believe this is a wonderful CD. I would recommend it to any Jonn Serrie fan.

5 out of 5 stars This is music that will stick to your ribs.......2004-12-11

I first heard the op. 6 Toccata - a real show piece - in a MIDI rendition by Serge Winitski, and that impelled my to buy this disk. I have now been listening to all of these incredible pieces at work for several weeks running. The subtleties still seem inexhaustible. The instrument, performance, and recording are beautifully balanced. I have finally had to break away intentionally - like getting up early at a feast - to make sure I can return many times to this beautiful place.

5 out of 5 stars The definitive recording.......2003-05-24

Other than the recording in 1967 (now available on CD) of Durufle's "Prelude and Fugue on the name Alain" as performed by his wife, Mdme. Durfule-Chevalier, there has never been a good performance of the complete works of Durufle. That has changed with Todd Wilson's disc. For such a small instrument, Wilson selects registrations that allow the rich harmonics to be heard with clarity. The overtones alone on a section of the "Veni Creator" will make your speakers rumble. There was a great deal of research done to make this CD possible, including an understanding of the kind of instrument that Durufle himself wanted to have his music performed on. Durufle's music moves, is electifying, is mystical (based on Gregorian Chant), and horrifying. He was such a master and so meticulous that this CD contains ALL of his published organ works. This is a CD best enjoyed late at night with the lights down and the headphones on so you can hear the mechanics of the instrument and hear the overtones correctly.

5 out of 5 stars Celestial, spiritual, emotionally earth-shattering.......2001-02-12

Maurice Durufle's organ music is in my opinion the best ever written for the instrument. It cannot be compared with any other organ music and transcends its French heritage to find a unique cross-cultural beauty. Durufle has managed to take advantage of the full capability of the organ and write six of the most spiritually and emotionally moving pieces of music you will ever hear.

That being said, everything else about this recording is just as wonderful as the compositions. The recording itself and the microphones placements are by far the best I've ever heard on a CD of organ music. The Schudi organ at St. Thomas Acquinas Church in Dallas Texas has got to be the best organ in the world for Durufle. I prefer it even over recordings of Durufle I've heard played on Cavaille-Coll organs.

Todd Wilson's playing leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. Todd is a wonderful man who once, out of sheer kindness, thanked me for coming to one of his recitals (that featured Durufle and the Reubke Sonata). He is more than up to the task that these very technically difficult works present and transcends the challenge of playing the right notes. His tempos are energetic and his playing is deeply, if not obviously, emotional. The registrations here are impeccable and bold-they range from the solo 8' flute at the very beginning of the CD to the full organ at the final chord of the magnificent Toccata.

This recording simply has to be heard to be believed. It's a stunning achievement for everyone involved in its making, from the engineers to the performer. It is a treasure for the whole organ community that everyone should experience.

      5 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic.......2000-01-19

Todd Wilson performs masterfully at the keyboards of the SCHUDI organ at St. Thomas Aquinas, Dallas, Texas. His flawless presentation of the complete works of Maurice Durufle shows the versatility of the instrument on which he plays and brings to life the music of the French master. This recording opens the world of organ music to the amateur, and will send chills up the spine of the afficianado.

      3 out of 5 stars MIXED REVIEW.......2007-04-09

SURPRISINGLY ENOUGH, THE THING I FIND THE MOST DISAPPOINTING ON THIS CD IS THE VOCALS! THE MUSIC IS TIGHT, TIGHT, TIGHT. RECODED AT BOB MARLEY'S TUFF GONG STUDIOS, AND FEATURING A LOT OF GREAT JAMAICAN REGGAE MUSICIANS, I JUST FELT THAT FLO AND EDDIE COULD HAVE TRIED HARDER ON THE VOCAL SIDE. THEY SOUND GOOD, BUT NOT GREAT, AS THEY USUALLY DO. NOT ENOUGH OF HOWARD KAYLAN SINGING LEAD, TOO MUCH MARK VOLMAN.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great Album.......2001-02-08

That's what I said when it came out so many years ago and it still remains true today. Flo & Eddie have long been known for their versitile abilities and this Album showcases this perfectly. The music itself is played by a virtual who's who of reggae music (including members of the origional Wailors).

It's true that this album isn't an allout jokefest (like Illegal, Immoral & Fattening), the music still has a fresh and fun feel to it.

As long as you don't hate reggae, this is a worthwhile and enjoyable purchase......

Ok... Now that I wrote this, maybe they'll actually put something new out... finally!

      4 out of 5 stars 1981 FLO&EDDIE ALBUM NOW ON CD.......1999-04-12

      WCD, 041198

THE 1981 FLO & EDDIE ALBUM ON CD, WAS RE-RELEASED IN 1987 AS RHINO LP "PRINCE FLO & JAH EDWARD".

CONSIDERING THAT THE EXCELLENT "PHLORESCENT LEECH & EDDIE" (1972) AND "FLO AND EDDIE" (1973) ALBUMS, FEATURING HOWARD AND MARK PLUS "MANY 'MOTHERS'", HAVE NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS, THIS IS A CURIOUS CHOICE FOR RE-RELEASE.

WHILE THE ROCK STEADY ALBUM MAY BE DISCONCERTING TO THOSE THAT EXPECTED FLO & EDDIE ROCK, THIS WAS FLO & EDDIE'S 1981 TRIBUTE ALBUM IN WHICH THEY EXPRESSED THEIR LOVE FOR REGGAE MUSIC.

EVERY SONG HAS A TIGHT "ROCK STEADY" BEAT. NUMEROUS CLICKS, SHAKES AND BOINKS EMBELLISH THE BACKGROUND AND THE VOCALS ARE "DIGNIFIED" AND EXCELLENT.

PRISONER OF LOVE, MOVING AWAY, DANCIN MOOD, PARTY TIME, ROCK WITH ME AND JUST LIKE A RIVER GROW ON THE LISTENER AFTER REPEATED PLAYINGS, SORT OF LIKE AN OLD KINKS ALBUM. THE WHOLE ALBUM IS GREAT. IT'S WORTH THE PRICE. (EVEN MOM AND DAD WILL LIKE IT!)

THIS WRITER HAS BEEN A FLO AND EDDIE FOLLOWER SINCE 1967. ROCK STEADY WAS THE LAST "ORIGINAL" MUSIC TO BE RELEASED IN THE CONTEXT OF A COMPLETE FLO & EDDIE STUDIO ALBUM (1981).

LONG-TIME FLO & EDDIE FANS HOPE THAT SOMEDAY:

** THE 1972 AND 1973 ALBUMS WILL BE RELEASED ON CD WITH MANY BONUS CUTS.

** THEY WILL BE REWARDED WITH THAT "COLLECTION OF NEW STUDIO RECORDINGS" WHICH FLO & EDDIE HAVE BEEN PROMISING IN CONCERT FOR THE LAST 22 YEARS.

MAYBE "BURGER KING BUCKS" WILL HELP.

UNTIL THEN "ROCK STEADY" WILL HAVE TO DO.

An interesting diversion if you like Flo & Eddie and reggae. But it doesn't sound like anything they had ever done in the past.

a major dissapointment for me. for their first "new" album in soooo many years, i was sorry to hear a reggae flavor on every track. i'm a flo and eddie fan, not even a little reggae fan. i wish i could return it.
