Very joyful guitarist.......2005-07-22
I got to go, I'll come back and write smore later.
Smooth Jazz at Premium Class.......2005-02-24
The dynamic rythm show his own premium class.
Last the only thing that I miss from this CD is the recording quality. I wish they will launch the SACD or XRCD version very soon so we can enjoy with good high-end setup.
Smooth jazz in hands of a velvet guitar.......2004-06-09
I don't mean this as a fundamental statement but a clue approach to invites you to think about. Think, for instance in the the two top master keyboards, Gregg Karukas and Brian Culbertson and Dave Koz , Rick Braun as fundamental musicians.
Chuck Loeb is a major guitarrist too, but I'd rather prefer White may be due his musical ideas are supported by more innovative conceptions. In this album you may find out a particular universe in every track.
Which one of these tracks is your favorite? It's a difficult answer, but you'll find a delightful reason for Caravan of dreams or Venice beach. Ten tracks filled with beating sounds and musicality.
Obviously who can deny the huge influence that Wes Montgomery still surrounds to the new generations?
Wes became a kind of big tree who involves the spirit of legend guitar as George Benson, Chuck Loeb, Jeff Golub, Stanley Jordan or Jinathan Butler.
Buy this. One of the best albums in 1996 and still sound Ok. It doesn't age just a bit!.

Fleet-fingered fretman Monte Montgomery has quietly carved out a name for himself on the competitive Austin music scene as a poll-winning guitar hero and a must-see live act. What's more, on a scene known for blazing Stevie Ray-style Stratocasters, he's done it all with an acoustic guitar! Montgomery's first live effort, a double disc recorded at Fort Worth's palatial performing-arts venue Caravan of Dreams, showcases his guitar prowess and the popular appeal of his live band's propulsive power. Most of the acoustic rock-oriented material comes from Montgomery, as self-penned staples from his live show are interspersed with such favorites as "Wishing Well," "Whirlwind," and "When Will I" from his two studio albums. Montgomery and the band make the most of the live setting, stretching out the songs--five go past 10 minutes--with creative instrumental interplay. Montgomery also successfully mixes in a diverse selection of cover tunes, including a percussion-driven rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "World Turning" and a radically reworked, almost satiric take on Merle Haggard's "Silver Wings." The Hall & Oates hit "Sara Smile" and Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet," the latter the 13-minute album closer, also appear in personalized versions spotlighting Montgomery's aggressive acoustic-guitar excellence and his crowd-pleasing personality as a live entertainer. --Michael PointCustomer Reviews:
Monte Montgomery Live at the Caravan of Dreams.......2005-05-18
Amazing.......2005-05-11
Virtuosity is a little boring .......2004-12-31
I listened closely to "Romeo and Juliet" which is one of my favorite songs. Yes, Monte picks out the melody beautifully now and then, but most of this 13 minute song is played like an exercise in complex chords and scales. Montgomery sings pretty well, and his back up players are good, but there aren't any songs on this two-CD concert that stay in the mind. Monte Montgomery merits 4 stars for being a helluva guitar player.

Okay recording of one of the best live performers.......2004-01-22
I can't stop listening to this one........2004-01-13
And I'm sorry there is a dispute regarding the legality of this recording, but I don't get the logic that we should deprive ourselves of this great artist and his music! I just wish he would release more live material...

The ONLY live Sara CD, ever!.......2003-12-23
Her singing and laughter are wonderful here. Soundwise, it has a very boot-leg-y feel to it. And the song selection spans most of the first part of her career (up to this point, I think Two Kinds of Laughter had just been released).
In short, until her DVD comes out, BUY THIS RECORD

Starts out bad but gets better.......2003-12-16
This album is from progressive rock bassist, Richard Sinclair. He has been in many bands, but his first big break came with Caravan. He went on to Hatfield and the North and did a stint with Camel.
This album sounds like a cross between his material with Caravan and Hatfield and the North. The album features Andy Ward (drummer for Camel), David Sinclair (Richard's cousin and keyboardist for Cavaran) and Jimmy Hastings (session reedman who appeared on a number of Caravan albums). It is 60 minutes long and the sound quality is pretty good, even on the live tracks. The album cover has been changed. The original cover had an opened scroll with Caravan of Dreams on it.
The album does not start out well, with some fairly boring tracks. Maybe that is because they were not written by Sinclair, but were cast offs by Hugh Hopper and Pip Pyle. There are a couple of good Sinclair compositions in the first half of the CD, like Emily and some not so good, like Plan It Earth, where calls for everyone to recycle.
The last half of the album is live tracks, which are much better, except for Halfway Between Heaven and Earth. On this track he sings like he is underwater. It just sounds silly. The other live tracks are fairly good jazzy instrumentals.
Sinclair has a unique voice and style of playing bass. They mixed well in Caravan, complementing David's keyboards and Pye Hastings vocals and guitar. On their own, leading an album, they can get tedious. There are some excellent parts to this album, but some of it is dragged out too long or interspersed with annoying sounds. This would be great if it were reduced to about 35 to 40 minutes.
A great find for Caravan fans!.......2000-08-09
Not so: through the Net I found that Caravan still comes together now and then - and even releases an album once on a blue Monday.
I immediately bought one of those albums ("The Battle of Hastings", released in 1995). And everything looked very promising indeed, from the album cover (depicting a part of the famous Bayoux tapestry) to the title and the line-up, which included keyboard player Dave Sinclair (whom I always considered to be the pivotal member of the band).
My God, what a disappointment! The CD has none of the magic of the old Caravan. It's a collection of dull, more or less "poppy" and very much middle-of-the-road songs, none of which are memorable in the least.
And then, through the Net, I discovered this album. And yes, I bought it, in spite of the earlier bad experience (after all, you either like a band a lot - and take chances - or you simply don't bother. I tend to bother.)
My God, what a nice surprise! This is wonderful stuff! Not really Caravan revisited, as such - which is a good thing, really - but very much a representation of what made Caravan a weird, whimsical and quirky band in the first place.
The sleeve notes (liner notes, if you prefer) mention that this is an "extension to the music from the Canterbury Scene". And yes, it has that flavour. With contributions from people like Hugh Hopper, Jimmy Hastings and (here he comes again) David Sinclair, this CD has all the things a release such as "Hastings" lacks.
Bottom line: if you like Caravan - more accurately: if you like "The Canterbury Scene", which also included bands such as Soft Machine, Matching Mole, Hatfield and the North, and others - try to get this album. Again, it's not a rehash of the old Caravan (although it does contain new versions of some older songs, such as a live version of "It Didn't Matter Anyway"). But - and this is what matters - it's a CD filled with the same peculiar magic that made Caravan a great band.
I never realised how important Richard Sinclair was to Caravan. Now I know.

Lacking........2005-09-22
By and large the pieces are invested in funky African rhythms, they have a nice sound, the playing is good all around (particularly Washington, who adds a good slap funk sensibility and slithers nicely between Jackson's rhythms), but there's by and large something really quite unfulfilling about the record. It just doesn't burn. The band did much better work, this is a curiosity piece more than having any intrinsic value.
