Amazon.com essential recording

In addition to being an activist icon, Pete Seeger is also a singularly ingratiating entertainer whose effortless charm and gentle humor give him a natural rapport with children and adults alike. This expanded edition of the much-loved Children's Concert at Town Hall adds nine songs not on the original 1962 LP, and includes such favorites as "Skip to My Lou," "I've Been Working on the Railroad," "Michael Row the Boat Ashore," "Fifteen Miles on the Erie Canal," and Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land." Seeger's easygoing charisma is in force throughout, making this refreshingly non-condescending fun for all. --Scott Schinder

5 out of 5 stars Pete Seeger.......2007-06-05

I listened to this album as a kid and loved it. I thought it might be too low-tech for my kids (ages 6 and 3), who are used to more modern media, but they love to hear Pete Seeger tell his stories and sing his songs with just a banjo or harmonica. We listen to it in the car, and the whole family sits quietly listening to every word and note.

5 out of 5 stars I first listened to this 'album' when I was 3 years old and it ..........2006-04-27

introduced me to music, folk music, and Pete Seeger. I've loved Pete my entire life and am very excited to see his music is being exposed to an entire new audience that has never heard of him.

While others complain about the 'quality' of the recording (mostly because of noise from children) I find it to be one of this album's greatest charms. You get a real feel for Seeger as a storyteller. My sister and I spent hours listening to this recording and signing right along.

I've introduced this recording to an entire new generation in my own family...and guess what? We've got children sitting down next to the CD player signing right along with Pete!

I love this CD, and would recommend it to anyone.

Thank you, Pete Seeger, for a great recording that I've enjoyed since 1963.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2005-07-21

My son grew up on Pete Seeger singing children songs and I wanted my granddaughter to enjoy the same songs. Unfortunately, this recording is of very poor quality. It was recorded at a concert, you can barely hear Seeger sing, and you can barely make out the words. In short, very poor and unfortunate purchase. I do intend to look for another recording, because I still want my granddaughter to enjoy Pete Seeger.

3 out of 5 stars Great music, so-so recording.......2005-04-20

I agree with all of the reviewers who have praised Seeger's musical abilities and the songs that are on this CD. In those terms, this is a wonderful disc. But potential buyers should be aware that this _is_ a recording of a children's concert, complete with all the noise that kids make... much more distracting than other "live" cds I've heard. There is a wonderful part where Seeger interacts with a crying child, saying, "I didn't mean to scare you." You need to decide for yourself if the added noise of the children at the concert would detract from your listening experience. For me, it was just a little too distracting.

One other warning: If you are concerned about violence in your children's media, you need to know that the rendition of "Frog Went a Courtin'" on this disc -- "Here's to Cheshire, Here's to Cheese," a very catchy song -- contains the most graphic version I've heard of the cat's attack on the wedding feast, complete with blood and a broken back.

The bottom line: The music is great, but I recommend you borrow the disc if you can before purchasing it.

5 out of 5 stars Pete Seeger is Great.......2003-08-01

A Pete Seeger concert is a special moment in time. This recording does awonderful job capturing such a moment at NYC's Town Hall 1962.Here we find Pete Seeger at his best, playing songs for children and theiradults friends. . The charm of Seeger is that he entertains and teaches atthe same time. Whether he's chopping wood on stage, singing about frogs
(Foolish Frog ) or monsters (Abiyoyo ) Pete is great .Like a child ,Seegeris honest, sincere and real. In a world that offers very little in the way of recorded music for children Pete at Town Hall is a must have recording for children of all ages.

5 out of 5 stars A world legendary live performance........2004-03-04

In what was to become a world legendary live performance, Nina Simone's version of summertime is like a religious experience. It catches you by surprise. Although wonderful renditions of it exist in the repertory of the greats such as Ella and Louie, Lena Horne, and Sarah Vaughan, they don't come close to Nina's hypnotic live, smokey, and magical delivery. Like the Audience, every time I hear this, I slowly fall under the spell of the dreamlike sounds she skillfully weaves out of this piece improvising with her piano and voice and taking it to a level above and beyond other versions I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. I don't think I can say enough good things about it--nevermind the whole live performance.

5 out of 5 stars great early Nina Simone releases on cd.......2003-09-09

This collection encompasses Simone's first two releases from the Colpix Label, a division of Columbia Pictures..when Darryl F Zanuck's sister heard Nina Simone's great artistry, she offered the singer a better deal than the one she got with Bethlehem. In fact, after only one recording and her #7 hit "I Loves You Porgy" from "Porgy & Bess", Nina was unhappy. She wasn't being promoted much, and the lucrative deal was just what she needed. With her Colpix years, she was able to establish a reputation as an individual artist who could incorporate folk and blues seamlessly with jazz, while adding a classical flair. Her first recording for Colpix, "The Amazing Nina Simone", includes a haunting rendition of "(Theme from) Middle of the Night", a Columbia Picture. Likewise, other great songs like "Solitaire," "That's Him Over There", "Tomorrow (We Will Meet Once More" and "It Might as Well Be Spring" balance more uptempo numbers like "Stompin' at The Savoy," "Chilly Winds Don't Blow", and "Children Go Where I Send You." Simone's next album, "Nina Simone at Town Hall," showcases her talent as a pianist. Outstanding pieces include "Theme from Samson & Delilah (instrumental), "Black Swan", and "Under The Lowest (instrumental). Vocal standouts are her interpretation of the folk ballad "Black is The Color of My True Love's Hair" and "You Can Have Him". As all of Nina Simone's US releases are now available on cd, this is a great place to start, but don't ignore her first recording for Bethlehem Records, "Jazz As Played in an Exclusive Side Street Club a.k.a. Little Girl Blue." That release includes some songs that were later compiled after Simone had left Bethlehem onto an album featuring other old Bethlehem artists, Chris Connor and Carmen McRae (Nina Simone and Her Friends). Also worth it's purchase is Nina Simone - Forbidden Fruit which is also a double album release on Collectables...

5 out of 5 stars Passionate Sound From The Magical Nina Simone!.......2003-07-04

Nina Simone is simply the best. Her extraordinary soul and enormous talent as a musician, vocalist, songwriter, pianist and performer, put her in a league all her own.

Ms. Simone has often been called a musical anomaly because it is impossible to categorize her work. Whether she sings soul, jazz, blues, folk or gospel, she invests old, familiar lyrics with new meaning, and evokes strong emotion with her fierce and unique style. As a performer she is a consummate actress, and displays a range of emotions with her sound. Her training as a classical pianist is evident in much of her work.

"The Amazing Nina Simone/Nina Simone At Town Hall" is one of her very best collections, running the gamut of all genres, and highlighting her many talents. Her torch songs are some of my favorites: "The Other Woman," "That's Him Over There," "Solitaire," and "Blue Prelude" are classics that recall love, loss, and dark smoke-filled rooms. Also included here are some songs made famous by Billie Holiday, "Exactly Like You," and George Gershwin, "Summertime," (a vocal), both favorite artists of Ms. Simone's; and Rogers and Hammerstein's lyrical "It Might As Well Be Spring" - all invested with the Nina touch. The gospel "Children Go Where I Send You," can raise the roof and bring down the house, as can her instrumental numbers that showcase her ability as a pianist, like "Summertime," "Under The Lowest," and "Return Home." The beautiful folk song "Black Is The Color," and the traditional spiritual "Chilly Winds Don't Blow" are included here, as are the bluesy "Willow Weep For Me," and her jazzy version of "Stompin' At The Savoy."

Nina Simone always delivered with artistry, heart and passion. This CD demonstrates all that. Ms. Simone is now a legend. We will miss her. And we will always have her music.

5 out of 5 stars Eunice Kathleen Waymon,Feb.21,1933 - Apr.21,2003.......2003-04-23

Great jazz singers seem to have to live a sad life.Billie Holiday did;so did Dinah Washington;and Lil Green, and even Ella Fitzgerald who, even if she didn't know alcohol and drugs troubles, could never live an harmonious life;she couldn't have no children, and never found a good man to live with.
Nina Simone's life was damaged by too much racism, masochism and ragging.AS a child, after learning the piano, aged 4,she dreamed about becoming a classical music piano player, but she was black, and she was a girl, and she lived in North Carolina. The dream was over.
During her jazz artist career, she had many troubles;troubles with managers who stole her money, for example.
But even if she had ups and downs during these fifty years, and maybe more downs than ups, she'll forever remain as one of the greatest voices of jazz, and also as one of the most talented piano players.
This CD,which includes two original Colpix LPs,deserves five stars for the fantastic, amazing, outstanding "Town Hall" concert.Of course, the first album has great moments, but some songs are rather poor ones."Town Hall",on the other hand,is a true masterpiece. It starts with the traditionnal "black is the color of my true love's hair",an irish song also recorded by Johnny Griffin ("the kerry dancers",Riverside). Then comes the beautiful standard,"Exactly like you",introducing Nina's piano.Doesn't her use of percussion effetcs reminds you of Ahmad Jamal's style ? (or MaryLou Williams' ?).If you only thought about Nina as a singer, then you'll discover the other side of her musical skills here."The other woman" has a very emotional melody, perfectly sung by Nina."Under the lowest" is a superb piano solo built around the blues.etc.etc.
Nina Simone's music is full of sadness and melancholy, and the Town Hall concert is a perfect example of this. You'll find here the same feeling you have in Lady Day's singing,in Pres' tenor sax;very very great music, even if the first part of this CD doesn't reach the same levels as the live part. But each and every Colpix record by Nina is a must to have (the terrific Newport live recording,"forbidden fruit",the Village Gate session, the strings session, the Duke Ellington songbook).
Goodbye Nina. You gave us so much, and had so little in return.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Two amazing stars.......2007-03-18

Briefly, these are two amazing Broadway stars at their best. And they are pretty funny at moments too. I especially loved the story about their costume problems in Side Show. If you love the other work Em and Al have done, this will certainly be a vital part of your musical theater collection.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Live Concert Recording.......2007-03-18

Two glorious voices heard together again. The choice of material is terrific and the banter between these Broadway divas is excellent. If one did not see them in "Side Show," the references to this musical may be lost on the listener. I think this is a wonderful recording.

4 out of 5 stars Good Disc.......2007-02-24

Some great performances by these two ladies throughout this two-disc set. Ultimately a few numbers are disappointing only because Alice Ripley sings just slightly flat...especially near the end of the concert. Thanks to Bruce Kimmel for this live disc though...it is a rare treat, mostly.

5 out of 5 stars I WISH I HAD BEEN THERE!.......2007-02-23

As the other reviews of this CD have said, there is an undeniable magic that happens when these two ladies step onstage together and sing.

Ever since "Side Show" I have been an uber-fan of these two, and while they are superb in individual projects, together they sparkle. The song choice on this album is a good mix of styles. And the pre-song, post-song banter between the two may be scripted but it comes across natural and spontaneous, like we are eavesdropping backstage in the dressing room.

P.S. How could Emily not be cast as Ursula in the new "Little Mermaid"? After hearing her version of "Poor Unfortunate Souls" I cannot see anyone (let alone Sheri Rene Scott - RANDOM!) as Ursula.

5 out of 5 stars Two Amazing Talents.......2007-02-08

I've been a fan of Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner ever since I saw them make Broadway history in the musical "Side Show." Their voices are absolute power, grace, control, technique, and passion. What a treat to have this special one-night only performance on a 2-CD album. Their musical talent is matched by a generous sense of humor and their appreciation for the audience and their fans really comes through. A new treasure in my collection!

Creative restlessness is not often rewarded in the arts marketplace; we want to know that you're the woman who does those paintings of pixies, or that gritty pop-punk act who sings songs about how parents really suck. And when we go to see you perform live, you better play your song like we heard it on the radio, the same way it sounds in our heads. Right? Eels leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, does not fit this profile in the slightest. He notoriously tours with wildly different variations on his perpetually mopey, low-key Eels. This disc captures E in a performance from his "With Strings" tour, playing a career-spanning sampler with a few covers while backed by two multi-instrumentalists and a string quartet. E's gruff Care Bear voice almost-soars atop ingenious and sparse arrangements throughout: strings, xylophone and singing saw on "Bus Stop Boxer"; bass, piano and strings on "Losing Streak." The only sore spot is how similarly-paced the twenty-two songs are, though fans will have no problem with that. -Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars The Sound Is Fine.......2007-07-05

I'm not sure what CD these other reviewers are listening to, but the mix of this CD is fine. It's a great live album from Mr. E. We get some of his older stuff, with "The Only Thing I Care About" being one of the highlights. If you are an Eels fan, you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic!.......2007-04-17

This is a great live album by one of the most underappreciated bands in America today. I experienced the live show myself and this album is a great representation of what a great show it was. The covers are well selected and the set list is great. There aren't too many essential eels tracks that are missing.

I'm amazed by the people who have reviewed this CD and complained about the sound quality. I am an experienced engineer and producer, and I have no problems with the way this album sounds.

In a time of over-produced, ill-written, tepid records, this, as much is the same with much of the eels work, this record shines.

5 out of 5 stars Superlative Eels Tracks.....(Given the String Section Treatment!!!).......2006-08-17

Mark Everett has never been the most straight forward of musicians, with him cutting an increasingly idiosyncratic path for himself, and although not considered a household name, he has certainly built up a cult following through a series of bittersweet, troubled and increasingly bleak albums, that have carved out a sort of niche market in the alternative pop/rock genre. But with this release Mark has taken the steps of bringing a stripped down version of his band, and augmenting the arrangements with a theatrical string section. So what this means it that although large sections of the "Blinking Lights and other Revelations" are present here. But there, are also popular tracks from previous albums ("Novocaine for the Soul", "It's a Motherf___", "Dirty Girl", "Poor Side of Town" "Bus Stop Boxer"), coupled with the occasional cover ("Michael Brown's - Pretty Ballerina" & "Bob Dylans - Girl from the north country"). But here with the radically different band arrangement, that shuns mostly electric instrumentation for: Acoustic Guitar, melodica, celeste, lap steel, organs, piano & string sections....the music here takes on a wonderfully rusty and almost lo-fi feel, with the luxury of delicate strings that add a certain elegance, melody and lilting beauty to the songs.

Mark himself has always had something of a gruff, scratched vocal...but here, mixed with the stripped down arrangements, his songs take on a altogether more sinister, stirring and vulnerable mood, that shroud the music with a noticeably ragged and emotionally melancholic tone, that isn't quite as pronounced as on his studio albums. Mark's husky voice lends perfectly to the darker mood, and for all the imperfections in his voice, carries the songs wonderfully. At points, such as on "Novocaine for the Soul" achingly tender, and reflective. And with the more direct tracks like "It's a Motherf___" slightly brash and uptight. It's a thoroughly engaging mix of moving through moods and being engaging, elegant, cathartic, intimate, detached, yearning and ambitious. And for a `Live' recording to convey these messages and emotions so well, is a rounding success for Mark Everett. And bodes extremely well...for any possible further `Live' recordings he may have planned.

Admittedly, this is a `Live' recording that is `preaching to the converted'....as it's not really something that could probably challenge the best `Live' albums out there for accessibility, and widespread appeal. It's a little too insular, and probably a little bit too morbid to snag a wider audience outside Eels fans. It's a fantastic albums of that there is no doubt, but people without been familiar with the songs already or having no prior experience with Eels, may struggle to appreciate the almost suffocatingly dour tone (As fans of Eels will only be too aware of the bleakness of the majority of the bands work), and maybe this is something that Mark Everett realised, and the possible reason for a couple of covers...and add to the fact that Mark has the superb ability to give a cover version his own delightful spin on it (if you ever come across it....try and find his cover of "Missy Elliott's - Get Yer Freak on!!"), gives this release a well needed shot in the arm. But for those Eels fans out there, that are intrigued, by the prospect of a `Live' Eels recorded performance, this has got to be the brilliant addition to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Best album of the year!!.......2006-06-05

I attended the Portland show of the 2006 "With Strings" tour last summer and this album is a faithful recording of what I heard. No disappointment here! If you like the Eels, you will love this album. However, be warned that the sound is more "raw" than their studio albums. This is not due to bad mastering as some have suggested, this is how they sounded in concert.

I hope that Mr. E releases a live album of the 2006 "No Strings Attached" tour. I saw them last night at the Roseland in Portland, OR and wow! what a difference. They played a few of the same songs like My Beloved Monster, Railroad Man, Mr. E's Beautiful Blues, The Only Thing I Care About, Dirty Girl, I like Birds, I'm Going to Stop Pretending and Hey Man, but this time it was a rock show. Everyone was dressed as if they were members of Motorhead and they played fast and hard.

4 out of 5 stars More than just another live album.......2006-04-25

If you are just getting into the Eels for the first time, this is not the album for you. However, if you are already familiar with the Eels catalog and want to hear some unique takes on Eels classics, new songs and a couple of covers, then definitely this is something you should check into. The Eels recorded this album in NY on their "Eels with Strings" tour, which is essentially the tour in support of 2005's "Blinking Lights and Other Revelations."

Eels add a new dimension of elegance, ambience and moodiness, and completely transform their songs by adding a string quartet, and toning down the guitars and percussion. This is not just another live album-if you buy this, you will be getting a set of uniquely interpreted songs, sometimes very different than the original recordings.

E's voice sounds particularly raw and off key in many places, but this only adds to the mood of the album. Every song fits in this album, and stands on it's own. Some of the highlights include the somber "Bus Stop Boxer" the intense "Trouble with Dreams" and the haunting and borderline creepy takes on "Flyswatter" and "Novocaine for the Soul" which run together (although he only goes through about half of the lyrics on the latter before the song turns into a long, distorted string solo), and five of the strongest songs off "Blinking Lights" to close out the record.

My only real dissapointment is that there are no tracks from "Electro-Shock Blues" which is one of the Eels strongest records. Apparently on the DVD version of this concert, 9 additional tracks appear, including those off "Electro-Shock" But the CD version contains 4 the DVD does not. Why not put them all together and make it a double album? Perhaps it is a ploy to get you to buy both. It may be noted that the iTunes version of this album has three bonus tracks.

5 out of 5 stars The Town Hall Concert Killer Album!.......2005-10-05

This album is Bill's last album with bassist Chuck Israel's. It is a live date recorded in Febuary of 1966 with Arnie Wise at the drums. This concert was supposed to have a second dics of tunes with the Evans trio and a big band but all involed felt the big band material was under parr for release. Never the less this record is superb. The first cut I Should Care, which originally appeared on How my Heart Sings has blossemed from that first recording into a tour de force due to six years of playing gigs around the globe. The ending is my favorite part very tight. We also get the solo piano piece song for my father which is actually three evans originals in a suite form, one of these originals being Turn Out the Stars which this album marks its first recorded apperance. The solo piano suite is very beautiful with strong ties to bill's classical piano roots, especially the begining. The album has a very good live recorded sound. This is verve's best representation of the "Bill Evans Sound" There are extended workouts from bassist and drummer. Overall this record is one worth the price of a disc so get it now!

5 out of 5 stars Bill and the NIght and the Music.......2002-02-11

I'd consider this the high point of Bill Evans' years as a Verve recording artist in the mid-1960s. The only official release of his trio with drummer Arnold Wise, they sound unusually upbeat, and Bill is in top form here in this NYC 1966 concert. The best reason to buy the CD however, may just be the extended solo performance, dedicated to his father who had just passed away (he plays his own compositions, "Story Line" --a reworked "Re: Person I Knew", "Turn Out the Stars" --, and the impressionistic and haunting "Prologue" and "Epilog".)
His versions of "Who Can I Turn To" and "Spring is Here", just to name two, are among the best -known jazz treatments of these standards. Bill Evans virtually defined jazz piano in the sixties and beyond, and this is one of the very best examples from the middle period in his career. As opposed to a number of his other Verve releases, the sound is superb, and you can hear all the interplay, the fun, and the fierce concentration of these guys beautifully recorded. Get on over to the checkout page, you can't go wrong with this one.

5 out of 5 stars Ensemble playing at its finest.......2001-02-09

If you have never heard this record, GET IT NOW! This record moved me tremendously upon the first listenings. The playing is so beautiful and so effortless sounding. Bill's soloing is amazing. It took me 3 or 4 months to begin to cop all the intricate rythymical movement, the unique approach to comp, the tight chord voicings, the collective improv of the group... this record made me listen to music in a new way. One of my very favorite jazz records.

5 out of 5 stars Subtle but certainly moves your heart.......2000-03-17

Bill Evans showed several different aspects of his talent and music sense through his career. This album, the Town Hall Concert, certainly contains one of those aspects. Although this album was recorded in front of many audiences in the concert at Town Hall, he didn't show concert play that can be heard in other live recordings such as "At Montreux Jazz Festival" or "Jazzhus Montmartre". (This may have been related to the death of his father.) Then, you might think it is like other solo albums of his such as "Alone" or "Easy to Love". However, this album is not like those, either, because Bill Evans certainly talks to the audience's hearts. After 36 years since this recording, this is still true. Listen to "Solo (In Memory Of His Father)". If you really love this pianist, he will touch your heart each time you listen to this album.

      Album Description

Produced by Jack Gold and Bob Blake, the album found Nina working with bassist Jimmy Bond and drummer Albert Tootie Heath (brother of saxophonist Jimmy and bass player Percy), two musicians who had also been featured on her auspicious debut album for Bethlehem Records. A compelling showcase for an artist who had begun building a loyal, steadfast following, 'Nina Simone At Town Hall' has often been cited - with good reason - as a true classic within a legacy of recorded works that would ultimately span some thirty-five years.

      5 out of 5 stars Brontomonk.......2007-06-27

Yes, this giant sized (brontosaurus) orchestra for Monk's usual standards (actually, quite a normal, even modest big-band sized orchestra) works really well. This CD should be owned by every Monk fan and modern jazz fan.

Should the die-hard big band fans tag along and acquire it?
It's hard to say: this is not a classical or even typical modernist big band - this is a logical extension of Monk's beautiful mind.
So, try for your self: I can personally never get too much Monk.

5 out of 5 stars MONK ON CENTER STAGE.......2006-11-11

i was smart enough to be in the audience that nite. if you listen closely you can hear me applauding...and i still am! any album of monks' is worth the price of admission and this CD of LIVE big band monk is a one & only. there's mucho quartet, trio etc out there...i love the Black Lion solo stuff his wife made him do, all 6 CDs...and the LIVE 5 SPOT recordings (hear me clapping on those too?) BUY THIS...Buy EVERY monk side you can. he is a world treasure to be treasured over & over. ENJOY

5 out of 5 stars Super Sized Monk!.......2004-04-04

Ordinarily, I prefer Monk in a trio setting. My favorite of his albums is "Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington," in which it's just Monk's piano, drums and bass. That, to me, is just enough accompaniment to garnish his sound without crowding it.

But oddly enough, I love the 1959 Town Hall Concert, in which Monk is part of a 10-piece band. I think it's something about the combination of Jay McAllister's tuba, Sam Jones' rubbery bass and the beautiful oddball baritone saxophone of Pepper Adams.

This stuff swings ("Friday the 13th") and it's a fun album but also clearly a product of intense concentration on all sides. It's full of beautiful, melancholy moments ("Monk's Mood") but it also tweaks a Monk staple ("Crepsucule with Nellie"). And it just has some great, kick back and listen gems: a nicely bulked-up "Thelonious," and "Off Minor" and "Little Rootie Tootie" (both within the concert and as an encore).

      An excellent album.

5 out of 5 stars Monk stepping into yet "newer territory".......2003-09-16

Granted that the music in this album recorded in 1959 is not new in itself, the arrangements in it are different from your "typical" Thelonious Monk. He steps into big band-type territory, with the participation of a ten piece band, away from the 'more limited' standard four or five piece ensemble. To take the tracks into that new direction (consider there are parts for a tuba, Franch horn, trombone, trumpet, baritone, tenor and alto sax here, on top of the piano, bass and drums) he counted on Hall Overton, a long time Monk enthusiast and composer/pianist/teacher himself.

Worth mentioning in particular are the opening track (I can keep on listening to it for a thousand times!) and the 9+ min long "Friday the 13th" where Phil Woods steps in with a quite remarkable alto sax solo.

      5 out of 5 stars A Must Own.......2003-05-17

What's to say? Every cut is perfect. It's Monk in a big band setting. (Arrangements are by Hall Overton).

My favorite cut is sort of a bebop version of "Johnny One Note" called "Thelonious." If you're new to bebop, listen to this tune - the melody centers close to a one-note drone, which sets off the bebop chordal counterpoint in a way that's both gripping and easy to understand.

Monk's solos are all superb. And there are two booting alto solos by Phil Woods (in my opinion all time classic jazz solos)- one on Little Rootie Tootie and the other I think on Friday the 13th.

This album goes in and out of print quite often, so buy it while you still have the chance.
