Okalahoma.......2007-07-17
MacRae and Jones head a superb and O.K. adaptation.......2007-03-16
Despite being a Hollywood star, Gordon MacRae performs the part of Curly as if he was born to play it even on the stage. He shines vocally in his renditions of Oh, what a Beautiful Mornin' and Surrey with the Fringe on Top. He is well-partnered by Shirley Jones as a fresh and pert Laurey, lending her beautiful voice to the part. Although we don't hear much of her on this soundtrack, her partnering MacRae in People Will Say We're in Love exudes a masterful chemistry, as if they were setting sparks off at each other in their rendition of the song. Gene Nelson makes a dashing Will Parker and is equally well-matched by Gloria Grahame as Ado Annie. Grahame renders I Cain't Say No splendidly and partners Nelson in All er Nothin'. The supporting cast is filled out by Charlotte Greenwood's suitably caustic Aunt Eller and Rod Steiger's Jud. It's a pity that the film cut the song Lonely Room, otherwise Steiger would have better demonstrated the dark hues of the character of Jud. Yet it all adds up to a wonderful renditionh of this classic musical, enough to elicit a spontaneous YEOW! during this year of the Oklahoma centenary.
This EMI-Angel reissue offers one the advantage of the dance music and the main titles. This means that the listener gets the Kansas City and Farmer and the Cowman dance sequences, as well as the extended Dream Ballet. The only downside is the extraneous sound effects lifted from a DVD copy of the movie. Yes I share many of your sentiments that these sound effects tend to grate, and long for Didier Deutsch to have used the original untainted studio vault versions. However, let's at least be thankful that the CD producers have offered us a more comprehensive version of the Oklahoma soundtrack that we could only have dreamt of in the past.
In short, this is a wonderful and valuable addition to the R&H discography, and is an equally celebrated rendition of the score like the original Broadway cast recording. Warmly recommended to those who seek even their first version of Oklahoma.

Very disappointing, considering what it could have been.......2007-04-20
Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes
What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.
Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.
This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

College days - Starvation vs. BoDeans.......2006-11-22
and listened to endlessly. Every song was a sing-a-long. Great lyrics, catcy riffs and sublime melodies.
The night of the show, I had $14.00 in the bank (am I glad that times have changed, very much for the better!)
Tickets were $12.00 plus a "service charge." For me, it was either food for the next few days, or the BoDeans show.
I regret my decision to this day. The soup was bland, the beans were dry and the bread was doughy.
And somewhere, out there, someone else is remembering the BoDeans show of 1988 in Atlanta.
But it ain't me babe. No, no, no it ain't me, babe. :-/
Oh wait - that's Dylan. Anyway, this BoDeans album is great. Buy it.
Surely one of their best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-10-06
Not Their Best.......2004-02-19
Unfortunately, this album only has flashes of future brightness. While the music is "good", it's not great. When you consider that this album came out in the late 80s, it is a miracle that it was released - the influence of simple, catchy songs from the late 50s and early 60s is unmistakable, and really went against the grain of overproduced, synth-based music of the release year.
While the music is fun and solid, it fails to rise above that - never enters the "great" zone, that leaves you humming a riff or intro for the next few days, nor do you want to crank you car volume to 11.
However, what ruins the album for me - and yes, "ruins" is correct - are the vocals. For whatever reason, Sam Llanas sings lead on most of the songs. I'd compare listening to his voice akin to scraping the inside of my skull with a fork, only less pleasant. Sam's voice is extremely limited in range, as well as being quite nasal. Kurt Neuman's voice - when it can be heard - is in fine form, and I wish he had sung lead on more of the songs.
The siezure-inducing quality of Sam's voice is curious, because with later BoDeans albums, it's much better. Either his voice become stronger, or their budget for production effects got bigger, or both.
My recommendation: skip it unless you find it cheap somewhere. Start with "Go Slow Down," "Black and White" or "Blend." Those albums feature Sam and Kurt at the height of their writing and singing powers.
A Lost Classic.......2003-02-23
No one will ever top Little Feat's output from '73 to '76 but this album comes close. Indispensable is a bit over-the-top...but this album is.
I'll never forget this album or that girl.......2002-11-27
We did a 12 hour road trip (not counting the times we stopped in small town bars to drown our sorrows) and I listened to this album a zillion times. Misery is the greatest song...especially when you are a melodramatic college kid just dumped by the prettiest girl you will ever meet.
There is nothing like listening to the Bodeans after your upmteenth road-pop, watching with winter praire slide by your pick-up window.
Buy this album...it goes well with getting drunk. And what else can good music really be for?

Beautiful Music for a Romantic Evening.......2005-12-15
Most of the selections are performed by Claudio Arrau, one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century, an acknowledged master of the Liszt repertoire and, furthermore, a pupil of one of Liszt's pupils. Arrau plays these selections with power, passion, sensitivity, and highly nuanced delicacy, depending on what a given passage calls for, as he takes the listener through the rising and falling tides of passion in Liszt's music.
The "non-Arrau" selections recorded by Misha Dichter, Wibi Soerjadi, and Zoltan Kocsis are also excellent. All the recorded selections, whether digital or analog, have very clear sound quality. Highly recommended, whether as an introduction to Lizst or to add to several other CDs of music by this great Romantic composer.

Stunning CD.......2005-08-04
After the camp is over, I did some web search to find any Erquiaga's CD and I found this one. Without thinking much nor reading about it I just ordered it. When I put the CD into my CD player, I was just stunned in two ways: (1) It was not a Jazz. (2) What a great music it is. I was amazed by his versatility and the beauty of his music no matter what it is. I normally listen to Jazz but this CD is very frequently placed on my CD player. Great work Erquiaga! I am truely impressed.

I never write reviews, but I came back here to order 5 Caf Paradiso CDs to give as Christmas gifts, and I realize I have to make my feelings know about this CD.
It is absolutely beautiful, it creates such magic, such a wonderful vibe. Steve Erquiaga's brilliance as a guitarist and musician is only surpassed by his unique ability to touch you with every note he plays, he gently wraps you in his music. It's truely amazing.
If you don't have this CD, get it ! You won't be sorry, I guarantee it !

Disney's Snow White, the world's first animated musical feature (1937), is still a standard in the industry. Though 1930s recording technology was primitive by today's standards, the Disney music studios have always used the available technology to its fullest, and this recording still stands up. The mature but hauntingly childlike Adriana Caselotti as Snow White is a unique vocal presence, and the songs include "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh-Ho," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come." The score is nearly as great an accomplishment as the film itself. --John SanchezCustomer Reviews:

One Song.......2006-02-19
Anyway another reason for me purchasing this album was the main titles for the film I love the ochestration. My favourite song on this album would have to be One Song followed by with A Smile and a Song.
And number 5 (a piece of music) I can't remember what it's called but it is creepy too the part that has snow white running through the woods.
Someday my prince will come is nice too. Adriana's voice is a little high and annoying sometimes though. But it's still nice to listen to. I listen to this album alot it's very nice and I like to listen to the version of One Song that is played at the end of the movie.
good soundtrack for halloween.......2005-07-14
Queen:(laughing)it's not for you, it's for snow white
anyways, bye-bye
REMasterpiece!.......2003-01-21
In the liner notes I read the original soundtrack only consisted of five songs, the five songs we hear sung in the film. "One song/I'm Wishing", "Hi Ho", "The Yodeling Song", "Some day my prince will come", and "Whistle while you work". Over the years, the instrumental musical score was thrown in to create a wonderful masterpiece of a soundtrack.
I highly recommend purchasing this. If you like the music from the movie, you will love this. After hearing this for the first time(I've now heard it at least 100, thanks to my 2 yr. old), the movie is brought out to be more of a musical adventure as well as a wonderful story to be told.
This is my son's favorite c.d., and he has so much fun dancing and singing along.
A Magical, Delightful Soundtrack.......2002-10-07

In the years before rock (and even for a few years after), the album charts were full of original Broadway cast LPs and soundtracks of the film versions of those Broadway musicals. And the soundtrack to 1955's Oklahoma! was one of the biggest--hitting No. 1 for a month that year--and becoming part of the consciousness of darn near every Baby Boomer whose folks owned a record player over the next five or so years. Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones (in her film debut) were so good together, they repeated the formula (well, after Frank Sinatra dropped out) in the following year's film version of another Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, Carousel. Every song here--from "Oh! What a Beautiful Morning " to the closing title track--is a gem, and whether it's "People Will Say We're in Love" or "The Farmer and the Cowman," these are the most familiar--and definitive--versions.
