About the Artist
In addition to leading his own group and touring with Maynard Ferguson throughout Europe, Asia and North America, Mike has performed with a variety of internationally known artists. Included on that list are Diane Schurr, Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Allon Sams, Jeff Tyzik, Dennis DiBlasio, Milt Hinton, Phil Simms, Jim Hines, Casey Filiaci, Dave Mancini, Carl Fischer, Dan Electro and the Silvertones, The Camaros, Joe Trippi and Fantasy, Allan Harris, The Drifters, The Ice Capades, Beanstalk, Brian Scanlon, Bogus Pomp (Frank Zappa tribute band), The Coasters, Chris Vadala, Paquito D’Rivera, and many more. Mike has also been the opening act for artists such as Brian McNight, Charlie Hunter, Yellowjackets, and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Mike has been involved with several recording projects including radio jingles, demo CD’s, TV commercials and his own recent CD release, Paradise Point. The Mike MacArthur Group released Paradise Point, their debut CD, in May 2000. The group's focus is on a fresh, new sound in the jazz world playing their original music as well as jazz standards. A former student of Florida State School of Music, Eastman School of Music, and The Manhattan School of Music, Mike has developed a unique sound and plans to further his career with his own group. Blending jazz, fusion, rhythm and blues, and funk, The Mike MacArthur Group is appealing to a wide variety of listeners. Studying under jazz greats such as Bobby Watson, Dick Oatts, Mike Titlebaum, Jim Doser, Ray Ricker, and Bill Kennedy, Mike has achieved many honors and awards. Some of these achievements include Best Young Jazz Instrumentalist in Downbeat Magazine’s Student Music Awards, 1993 as well as a performance at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday in October 2000. Currently, Mike is working with The Mike MacArthur Group throughout the Tampa Bay area. Playing local clubs and other venues gives the group a chance to continue creating a fresh, new sound. The Mike MacArthur Group consists of guitarist Peter Mongaya, keyboardist Matt Bokulic, bassist Pee-Wee Trumbach, drummer Tommy Fessenden, and Mike MacArthur on saxophone.

Young tenors at their individual and collective best. Powerful, dynamic, and emotionally charged performance.
Good selection of vocal works for the newcomer, some light, some heavy.

Best discovery in music in a quite some time........2005-07-08

I happened to see this ensemble perform in concert on PBS one night last winter during a fund raiser.

All that I can say is, "Wow".

Since that time I have purchased this CD for myself and as gift to three other music lovers; all of which have offered me their gratitude.

It is not very often that a musical experience of skill and talent surfaces. They hold us within the magic of voice, combined with musical stanzas and lyric, and the chemistry of TEAMWORK.
The gentlemen excel in such offerings as Vangelis' "Conquest of Paradise", "World Anthem", and the melancholy Irish "Thunderpoint", which sends chills down my spine.

If I can choose one group to open the next Olympics celebration it is The Ten Tenors.
I can only hope that they broaden their US tour.
I can also only hope that they continue to produce and record more albums.

Larger Than Life.......2005-07-04

Yes, clearly the name alone is a homage/copy from the Three Tenors and, no, they aren't as operatic as the others. However, they are 10 guys who sing a cross between choir, Broadway, opera and a capella. That said, you'll find these guys encapitvating. First of all, the operatic aspect is a misnomer, because when they're having fun, they're at their best. Listen to them do their Dancing Queen Melody. Not only is it well done, it's fun and hysterical.

This all said, the CD contains a bonus DVD disc, which in my opinion blows away the CD. Not that it's as well produced; however, you need to see these 10 guys interact to get the idea of how good they are. Their faces express the emotion, as all 10 of them work together to take you across various musical genres. Their interaction is what makes them special, which is why I say, "Buy this CD for the DVD"

Delta Air Lines featured most of this album on thier in-flight audio, and I heard it on a long flight and its equally long return. Bought the album after that. Not a fan of opera, classical, or pop, I was surprised to find that The Ten Tenors did all of these better then any of the three genres' more popular artists. I enjoy the album and recommend it as adult contemporary.

I became hooked on this CD after listning to it once. Their version of old standards like Mercy Mercy Mercy coupled with new original tunes shows how talented they are both as performers and writers. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of jazz.

If you can find a copy of this CD, buy it and hope that Mike records another soon...he is one the most talented sax players in music and has played with a number of topline acts. He does the old stuff well and his original music is great, too. If you get the chance, go see him live, (he plays in NYC with Diane Schurr, lives in the Tampa area and travels with Maynard Ferguson) he is outstanding!

Though I'm not a real big Jazz/Fusion listener, the Mike MacArthur group performs the standards (Sentimental Mood, Mercy, Mercy)very nicely. They don't deviate too far from the original tune, but yet add some interesting things to it. Not a bad effort. Of course anyone that has played for Maynard Feguson is a fan of mine.

A clean, crisp sound and very innovative. Mike's sax work is superb and every one one of the band members are extremely talented. I would recommend this cd for any true jazz fan.

I was fortunate enough to hear the Mike MacArthur Group live when I was home in Tampa, Florida for a visit. Their music and their showmanship had me moving the whole evening. I could NOT leave without buying this CD. Paradise Point has lived up to the live performance in every way!

Heroic, Powerful, Breathtaking.......2000-06-17

The above title sums it up wonderfully. This cd is a must own for any person interested in gaining film music from some of Stallones greatest films. The music alone is what always accompanied a great stallone film. For instance, what would 'Rocky' be without Bill conti's extradinary cult hit' Gonna fly now"? Or the heart - rendering and heart wrenching theme from 'lock - up', or the beauty and Majesty of the 'Cliffhanger' themes.

The best thing is that you don't have to be a serious soundtrack collector to admire the magic of these songs. They all exhibit their own unique characterstics; musical pieces designed to inspire, encourage, relax and awe. Many of these tracks from stallone's films are not widely avlaiable; some like 'Lock-up' are indeed a rare gem. I love this soundtrack for its unique varitey, its warm and emotive film scores.

Not only that - it's also great value for money -you get lots and lots of excellent tracks on the one cd. I really hope you have some time to sit back and enjoy this cd as much as I have.
