oh what can I say after getting hooked on Frankie Ruiz I came across Sonora carruseles's song "Micaela" that got me I had to have the CD so I tracked it down like a good little blood hound and found it after 4 months, I play this on the ride home from work, oh yeah I Salsa behind the Wheel.!

The heavy salsa rythmn is inspiring and you automatically feel like dancing. There are songs on this album that I am familar with from dance classes and from hitting the popular salsa joints. If you're really into salsa, this album is for you. The drums, the whitsles, the rythmn, it's just great!!!!

If you are like me, a picky salsa aficionada, then you usually buy a CD that will get you off the couch and into the dancefloor the moment you hear it. Sonora Poncena sizzles in this CD. Buy it and dance all night long...every song in this CD is HOT!

La Sonora Ponceña Continues to Sizzle in the 21st Century.......2001-01-06

Oh my lord thank-you once again for giving us music to enjoy and dance. Papo and Quique Lucca along with La Sonora Ponceña has smashed Salsa scene once again in the format of Salsa Gorda and Clave with this astonishing production. Hands-down this is the best of 2000 and beyond. Competitors standby...La Ponceña...is taking center stage now. After Tito Puente's Birdland Live recording...now La Ponceña is on the spanking side of Salsa. It's really a shame that they are not in with the click in the Miami Mafia of Latin music. If you want to hear good Cuban music well step-back and think about it for a minute because La Sonora Ponceña 45th Anniversary Live is way much better in all respects. I love real cuban music but La Sonora Ponceña from Ponce Puerto Rico RULES. There's just no doubt about it. I don't say these things unless I truly mean it.

Superb cd of February, 2000 concert!.......2000-12-12

This musical giant is celebrating its 45th anniversary and this cd includes almost all of the songs performed last February at San Juan, P.R. with most of its former lead singers( Luigi Texidor, Yolanda Rivera, etc.) plus special guest stars, salsa legends Andy Montanez, Cano Estremera and Ismael Miranda Only missing is Tito Gomez who sang that day but his record company did not grant approval for the inclusion of his tracks in this cd. For lovers of "Salsa Gorda" by the best musicians from Puerto Rico.

La Sonora Dinamita has been for years putting on smooth, erotic, rythms. I dare someone to listen to this CD and not move to the beats and rich sound of this Columbian group. From the jazz-like, scratchy voice of Lucho Argain to the seductive voices of the women on this disc. These songs are classics, in a league of thier own. La Cucu a favorite to many is a song that will leave you wanting another play just so you will hit the dance floor again. If you love cumbia, REAL cumbia, then you will love La Sonora Dinamita.

Solid Mix of Portuguese Styles.......2004-05-15

I feel the same way about most of this CD as the previous reviewer. I always sort of looked at this as a companion piece to Red Hot & Rio. Both are on the same "Red Hot" label, and this one came out three years later - I had to get it when it came out... so impatient I was! But which is better? I also liked Red Hot & Rio more but I definitely also enjoyed this one because it is VERY different. Only thing I can't quite see is Nina's voice being like Bebel's, but do think that both are terrific singers. Nina's voice reminds me more of Wanda Sa - but sweeter.

The CD starts out with an interesting David Byrne/Caetano track, followed up with probably my favorite band, Smoke City. The version of O Cara Lindo is different than the one on their feature album too; I dig this one better. Also in here is a Tribalistas cut (Monte/Brown at least - Arnaldo appears later in this ablum) which I enjoyed. Lura had a slow and sensual cut, KD Lang had some Portuguese Fado and there were some other solid cuts here too. I think my favorite cut is Madredeus's "Os Dias Sao A Noite" remixed. This is vastly different than the original on "O Paraiso", but so haunting and beautiful is the arrangement. Theresa Salguiere's vocals are sweet as always. Another good cut to me was "Sem Voce". One of the things I enjoyed about this was looking at the artists - Moreno Veloso, DJ SPooky/Vinicius Cantuaria (what a guitarist he is!), Smoke City (Christian Franck - another great guitarist)and so on.

The downside? Some of the Africa cuts weren't up my alley. I know the history of Portuguese speaking African nations and Brasil and Portugal well, its in my heritage. But it just wasn't for me. Some of the other songs didn't grab me either and its hard to say that this will be as timeless a release to me as Red Hot & Rio. Finally do be warned that this is a rather DARK cd - given the cause of the Red Hot organization, it sort of fits. If you enjoyed this, certainly check out Red Hot and Rio, Brasil 2Mil and work by Tribalistas, Madredeus, Vinicius Cantuaria, Caetano Veloso and maybe Da Lata's album titled "Serious".

Interesting... but Red Hot+Rio is better.......2004-04-02

I bought this record yesterday, mainly attracted by the names of Vinicius Cantuaria and Caetano Veloso in the list of songs... I'm not a great fan of electronic post-bossa and fusion monsters like Arto Lindsay or Carlinhos Brown, but after the nice experience I had five years ago when I bought Red Hot+Rio I check out new lusophone music compilations every now and then... After all, David Byrne's musical taste isn't bad even if sometimes strange. Speaking about Red Hot+Lisbon, I did not expect too much from it, so I'm not too disappointed - the only disappointment is that Vinicius Cantuaria does not sing on this compilation but only plays the guitar... I thought he would sing the song with such a romantic name, Luz de Candeeiro (Candlelight), in his own voice, so silky and sensual, but the one who sings it here is Nana Vasconcelos... Frankly speaking, I didn't like it, neither Nana's voice nor the rendition of the song. Among the ones I liked, I would mention Marco de Canaveses, a marvellous duet between Caetano and David Byrne, and Lura's morna Nha Vida (marrrveloussss... I'll find out more about this girl!) Smoke City's O Cara Lindo, Paulo Braganca's A Nevoa and Filipa Pais' Fado da Adita are quite good, too. Nina Miranda sounds much like Bebel Gilberto... Antonio Chainho's Portuguese guitar is mellow and beautiful. The other songs didn't impress me - "neo" arrangements of that type rather spoil the songs than make them more beautiful - the reason, I suppose, is that they contradict the sensual and dreamy nature of most Portuguese and Brasilian music, they're too harsh (I'm so glad that Sem Voce sung by Antunes and Lindsay is not Jobim's lovely Sem Voce that Maria Bethania recorded for his songbook... if it were a version of THAT VERY Sem Voce, I would be horrified). I'm not speaking about the African pops - not my type of music at all (however, Mulemba Xangola is good for dancing). Red Hot+Rio is much better in terms of arrangements - softer and more romantic.

Amazing tunes from another world.......2000-07-24

This CD was a wonderful find that I spontaneously bought after a summer trip to Lisbon. Although much of the music is not from Portugal, the mad pace of the dance songs and the strange melodies of the slower songs will remind you of far-off lands. I could not recommend this CD more highly, especially for those with an interest in international, Brazilian and Latin tunes. This CD will make you think, move and feel.

A Very Intriguing CD.......1999-08-13

I picked up Onda Sonora and I must agree that it is a very strange mix of songs. But the album still sizzles! Madredeus' Os Dias Sao a Noite is haunting and Bonga, Marisa Monte and Carlinhos Brown's Mulemba Xangola is incredible. If you liked Red Hot + Rio, you'll love Onda Sonora.

this great album (and great cause) combines so many styles and artists from so many places, and still the whole cd flows cohesively. from David + Caetano to DJ Soulslinger, this album never gets boring. Red Hot + Lisbon is the sound of the future, combining tribal drumming, acoustic guitars, and dj beats.

This 1978 release was Sonora Poncena's all-time best album--and one that no real salsero should be without. By itself, the immortal "Se Formo" more than justifies buying this CD but the all-time classics "Moreno Soy" and "Canto Al Amor" are also stone-cold Poncena masterpieces. Best of all perhaps is this digitally remastered CD's superb sound quality (which is considerably better and cleaner than the original's). Buy this CD...pump it up in your stereo...your speakers will definitely get a workout...and enjoy it!!!

For the last 20 years, Columbian salsa bands have dominated the Latino dance-hall scene with fierce sounds they call salsa brava (angry salsa). Dynasties like Grupo Niche and Fruko y Sus Tesos brought a hard-pounding swing back into the genre after the 1980s commercially induced salsa romántica fad diluted the music to mediocrity with repressed rhythm sections, lame arrangements, and sugar-coated lead vocals. And the salsa gods and goddesses have blessed dance floors with yet another Columbian treat: the youthful Sonora Carruseles return with their third sizzling effort, Con Todos Los Hierros. From the outset their remake of boogaloo king Pete Rodríguez's "Arranca en Fa" is manna for dancing kings and queens, with tunes and arrangements that draw deeply from the 1970s New York City salsa scene. Once turned on, there's no turning back, as multiple "mosaícos" (medleys) groove to no end, forming a kaleidoscope of Afro-Caribbean rhythms with cool cumbia undertones. The voices of Harold Peláez, Gabino Pampini, and Marinho Paz further excite the already saucy music. I like this group alot. Although I enjoyed Salsa y Fuego better, this album was also good and worth getting.

I'm a new comer to this extremely talented group. Their musical arrangement and performance are Stella. The group at times takes you from a classical approach and creatively bridges you into salsa, cumbia and many other hot rhythms. Their musical timing and changes are creatively smart and enjoyable.
These guys can cook! WOW, what a find!

The 12 songs featured on this album are brilliantly arranged musically and vocally.
This is a first class production from a deep in the pocket orchestra. Wow, what an album!

This is the kind of album that Salsa lovers and dancers are always looking for but rarely find. This is indeed a treasure!

Por favor haz lo que es debido y comprate este disco fenomenal de la Sonora Carruseles. Si estas leyendo esto se que eres amante de la salsa brava por lo tanto no es necesario que hable de lo bueno que es "Con todos los hierros". En este disco la Sonora Carruseles se reta a comprobar que tiene la capacidad para reinar y ser los campeones de esta nueva salsa llamada "boogaloo" que ya domina el mundo musical. Si te gusta su disco anterior (que es fenomenal tambien) seguramente te va a gustar este porque si tuviera que escoger yo diria que es mejor (creelo o no).

Upon listening to this CD, I must say that Colombia's "Sonora Carruseles" has turned me into their fan! I'm very happy that they seem to have started a 60's and 70's style salsa revival. Their singers sound just like 60's and 70's salsa singers Hector Lavoe and Andy Montañez. In a nutshell this great salsa band sound,vocals and rhythm are impecable! "Con Todos Los Hierros" by "Sonora Carruseles" is definitely a classic and the best salsa CD of the year!

This album is better than "Heavy salsa". Very instrumental. Ideal to dance if you like fast songs.

Dear Music Fan. You need to send an email explaining your dissatisfaction with delivery of this CD or give them a call. It's obvious to me they don't have anyone reading this review stuff or they wouldn't have posted it on this page. You may want to cancel your order as this CD, in my estimation, is quite forgettable. Suggest, ordering 110th Street by Spanish Harlem Orchestra featuring Ruben Blades on four tracks. Banging good.

I have ordered the Salsa Cd two weeks ago, and when I was ordering the item the delivery dates states " this order will be shiped to you within 24 hours, I have been waiting for it more than two weeks, I am not happy with the service that you are providing me besides I could have got it cheaper from CDNOW, but I did not mind paying more as I was going to get the cd delivered to my home address within 24 hours. Please advise. as if this is going to continue like this I will stop ordering any cd.
