The newest to arrive on the national Jazz scene is the flute of Bob Stewart. A true native of San Francisco, Bobs musical endeavors began as a trumpet player, orchestrator, and musical for a weekly television show, "San Francisco by the Bay." He is also a song writer with singles and a album for the singing group, "The Whispers," and thereafter writing s the musical score for an independent film. i wore out the vinyl edition.......2005-08-12
"say it with music" was somewhat of a departure for ray in that he introduced his latin-flamenco guitar device with resounding success. these renditions prove conniff's mettle as a skillful and innovative arranger. the sound is big band, the production values are impeccable, and the rhythms are infectious. one of conniff's superior productions.
sidemen for this album include billy butterfield (his treatment of "summertime" is incredibly beautiful) and doc severinsen on trumpet.
to think that ray conniff's first full-fledged recording ('s wonderful) was a mere 3 years earlier than this particular album....what a tremendous evolution in the conniff sound in such a short period.
"say it with music" is consummate conniff!

Back to Laura's roots.......2006-11-06
Some of the songs are almost acoustic, for example "Besame mucho" is only a guitar and Laura's voice, "La puerta" only a piano and Laura's voice. Laura's velvety voice takes centre stage here and it only adds to the intimate atmosphere of the recordings. Featured are rumba's, cha-cha-cha's, salsa's which makes it the perfect album to enjoy in the summer when it's 30 degrees outside (or the rest of the year, for that matter).
Furthermore, I can highly recommend the japanese 'XRCD2' version of the album. Apart from having 3 bonus tracks (3 english versions of songs from the album) this version also has advanced CD technology, namely the highest quality transfer from mastertape to compact disc, which makes for enhanced sound. And you don't need specific equipment to play it.

Toca International?.......2007-07-18
He has even been to Norway with Soni. Every body knows the saying if you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere. We have turned it around and mean if you can make it in tiny Norway with the worlds most strange and cold population, than you can make it anywhere.
So when Tony Touch releases the follow up to The ReggaeTony Album than we have quiet big expectations.
The problem is how Europeans and Americans look at the word International. Tito and Now Tony have booth-released albums with the word International on the cover.
But what does it mean? When you have been traveling to many countries that makes you international?
We have been saying it for years, when I see an album with Arabian, Turkish, Albanian etc artists then we can talk international. We still belive the only album who can call it self international is "Matadores" it contains artists from Panama, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
Ok we totally have lost track right now. The Album is good and if you are a fan its even better. But I miss the international part here...

One of my favorites.......2003-05-26
This is a very good album. It's a bit of jazz, great beats and for that special flair, you add Brazilian vibes into the mix to get "Come Touch the Sun". Most of the tracks on this CD are pretty smooth and neat - you have to have this for the full version of "Fly Away", and of course you'll recognize "Prince Charles Latest Affair" if you're a Brazilectro fan. And if you've seen a recent Kia (automobile) commercial, you'll recognize the familiar background mix from "Yes Baby Yes".
I highly recommend this album. It's a great addition to my collection and while it does have it's flaws (some tracks just don't do it for me - and I don't like the end of Foto Viva with the alarm clock) it more than makes up for it in general quality. Likewise, if you're a fan of this definitely look into ESL Jet Society as mentioned before, look at "More Psycodelico" by Reminiscence Quartet, and they do have another album. But IMO, the second album isn't as strong as this one is. Finally - their label is Stereo Deluxe - who showcases them on their compilation series titled "Basic Instinct".

Buy this CD. This surpasses even Baby Mammoth. And thats a mouthfull.
This CD kicks. Buy it. Buy it today. Buy it NOW. Of 30 or so lounge CD's I have, this takes me out of my chair effortlessly. This makes me ...something...I never thought was there. This is the sound of the world turning.
This music always puts me in a good mood........2002-07-19
Come Touch the Sun provides the perfect variety of jazz sounds. A great CD for driving or just chilling around the house. I especially like 'foto viva' talk about smooth! Wow! Would highly recommend.
Fresh, jazzy, full of infectious rhythm and shimmering beats.......2001-01-26
That's how the last track (Flying Away) begins, in a jazzy-cool, restrained voice that cannot hide the Portuguese embers smoldering underneath. Close your eyes, and picture yourself as James Bond flying to Brazil at midnight, with this voice whispering in your ear. I could swear I heard this song before on some 60s Brazilian jazz album...but, like most of the other songs, it was written by the two German masterminds behind Mo' Horizons. Talk about breaking a stereotype: you would never guess that these guys weren't born in Cuba and raised in Rio.
Touch the Sun was not at all what I expected...every surprise was a good one. DJs Ralf Droesmeyer and Foh Wetzler stir electronic beats that sound engineered by BMW, into a melange of brassy funk, South American and African rhythms, latin and acid jazz, bossa nova bongos, stunning and sultry vocals, breathy flutes, jungley dub, and more. Then they somehow slip it all into a downbeat wrapper that is as sleek, smooth, energizing, and exotic as the dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to President Kennedy.
For your pleasure, Mo' Horizons has created...a dream.

Latin roots of the DGQ.......2004-12-05
Once I decide to review something, 3 stars is where I start. It's my base score. Then I just add or subtract stars as needed. Although I am also judging things against other things from that "genre" or artist, so 3 itself can be good or kinda blah. The stars are the toughest part of most reviews for me. I think what I write gives a better feel of my thoughts than do the number of stars I pick.
Okay onto the music. I give this disc 3 stars because it's perfectly pleasant, but it doesn't blow me away or reduce me to tears of joy or sadness. This is one of those nice little recordings I can pop in for background music when my grandparents are here, or when I just want to relax and not necessarily hang on every note. If that is what you are in the market for right now, I dare say this would be a perfect cd for your needs. Having said that, there are 2 tracks here that I do find quite engaging. I perk up for tracks 7 and 10.
What you have here are a few solo guitar tracks by Enrique, but usually it's Enrique in duos or trios, with everyone from Walter Rios (bandoneon), Nicolas Brizuela (guitar), Carlos Crespo (quena and zamponia), to David Grisman Quintet bandmates David Grisman and Matt Eakle.
My main reason for 3 stars here is because, while I like this disc, I don't like it as much as the other Coria disc I have, Guitar Artistry of Enrique Coria: Solos from South America. Plus, I know enough about latin musics to know that I don't know very much yet. As much as I like Solos from South America, I don't have very many latin guitar discs at all. I just know there are some out there that are better than that disc, by people I've never even heard of yet.
If you're really a fan of the latin side of the Enrique-era DGQ (1994 to the present), you'll find this disc to be a pleasant look into where Enrique is coming from, but if you're really deep into latin musics, I am assuming you already own better overall discs than this one. I mean this as no knock on Enrique though. The DGQ (for me) was near death in the early '90s. Enrique joining them in '94 was exactly what they needed. He was instrumental in turning them back into a fantastic band.

A Favorite CD I come back to again and again.......2002-06-15
How can a guy who grew up in Liberty, New York have so much salsa in his blood?
From the first track you will hear Latin Jazz Piano as it should be done. This CD quickly became a favorite and has stayed at the top of my personal music chart for a number of months.
Drummer Vince Cherico keeps the latin jazz feel moving forward. Leo Traversa on bass adds a solid foundation to the mix. A host of other talented artists contribute to achieve a sound that you don't just hear, you feel.
At the heart of it all is Joseph Diamond creating a perfect blend of rhythm, groove and melody that you'll find yourself humming later in the day.
I challenge you to get into your car, turn on "Not Your Typical New Yorker", and not start feeling better about life in just a few minutes.
You had better be careful with this one!.......2001-07-26
