Absolutely excellent!.......1999-09-09

I found this cd in a "used" section of a record store. I can't believe someone gave up this treasure. The immense talent of these performers is well presented here. The music is relaxing, lively, mellowing and just lets your mind rest in its completeness. The "Ashoken Farewell" is my favorite, followed by "Wayfaring Stranger", and "Maiden's Prayer", but I like them all. The whole recording is outstanding while using earphones, so you can get every drop! I didn't even know I liked this kind of music, except for hearing "Ashoken Farewell" on the "Civil War" Soundtrack.

When Yann Encre's early polished-up opuses were made on his own, Encre on stage soon became a five-piece whose long and twisted structures came to alternate brushed movements and sonic outbursts. A multi-headed machine driven freely by its five members : Bertrand Groussard on drums, Raphael Seguin on guitar, Damien Mingus on sampler/bass and Sonia Cordier; who also operate on their own for the most part (respectively KingQ4, Erich Zahn and My Jazzy Child). 'Common Chord' illustrates this live counterpart. It is a collection of seven tracks (four were taken from a VPRO session - Dutch national radio, Amsterdam - recorded April in 2004 and the other three were recorded live in Nantes (France) in 2002 at the Oblique Lu Nights Festival). Most of these versions were fully rearranged and re-written for live purposes. These seven brand new tracks based on communal band energy deserved to be released as a whole new album.
