Editorial Reviews
The alluring title track alone makes this CD a must-have. A 15-minute dreamscape laid down by pianist Duke Pearson, the song features enchanting solos by tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson and vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson. Guitarist Grant Green's single-note melody heightens the song's suspense. Grant's original "Jean de Fleur" finds the ensemble in brisker tempo, while their cover of John Lewis's "Django" exudes the spine-tingling coolness of Lewis's brand of bop. --John Murph

Time is suspended on these four haunting, extended tunes by this brilliant guitarist with the aid of an all-star cast. Unique in Green's discography for its relaxed, lengthy performances and almost dream-like lyricism, this Blue Note classic could well be called "Ballads for the Ages."Customer Reviews:

One of the best of Blue Note's best.......2000-06-01
From the intoxicating, dreamy strains of the title tune to the energetic "Jean De Fleur" to the crisply swinging "Django," Green and his band never miss a beat. In fact, the first thing that struck me when I first heard the album was how authoritative they all sounded, and utterly relaxed in their musical exchanges. That feeling added to my surprise when I read the liner notes and found that Green didn't even know vibist Bobby Hutcherson all that well prior to the date.
Well, you'd never know that listening to "Idle Moments." From the opening note of that title cut, the band slips into a groove that it never loses. Green's playing was never better (and he recorded a number of other great Blue Note records), and he is firmly supported by Hutcherson's bell-like vibes. Joe Henderson is in complete control on tenor sax, ranging across a variety of moods from liquid to hard edged, and the underrated Duke Pearson provides a strong anchor on piano.
Nearly any jazz date that brought together the talent in this band would deliver a few memorable moments. On this date, the memorable moments never seemed to end. You'll find that spending time with "Idle Moments" is not time that is wasted. Not in the least.

How can you go wrong with Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson and Grant Green on the same record?!
All the selections are performed at an incredible level of mastery and control (listen to Joe Henderson's solos, its like liquid sunshine). Credit has to be given to the great writing of Duke Pearson for the success of this session (check out his record Wahoo).
