I bought this a few years ago and still listen to it very much today. It's a live album celebrating the 70th birthday of James Moody. What I like about Moody is that he plays with a lot of attitude and humor.
It's got a short intro sketch by Bill Cosby. The band features a.o. Arturo Sandoval and the now popular Terri Lynn Carrington.
Great blowing throughout the CD. My favourites: Groovin' High, Parker's Mood, Bennie's From Heaven (a hilarious take on Pennies From Heaven) and the ultimate blowing vehicle Bebop, which is flawlessly executed here.
If there's one thing these days that jazzers often forget to put into their music it's humor. Plain old fun. And this album exudes fun. The musicians on this recording are not only technically proficient, but they put emotional content into their performance.
I hope when I'm seventy I'll be having this good a time!
So basically... If you like sax and trumpet duets, ferocious bebop music and a good dose of humor: buy this CD!

Optimist Party is a catchy new collection of hard-hitting songs featuring Kosowski on vocals, guitar, and bass accompanied by a stellar collection of some of Canada's most in-demand instrumentalists. It was co-produced by Toronto bassist Marc Rogers (Divine Earth Essence, Wade O. Brown) and features performances from top Canadian musicians. The lineup reads like a who's who of Canadian music and includes Vancouver drummer Randall Stoll (k.d.lang, Tom Cochrane, The Rankin Family), saxophonist Kelly Jefferson (Maynard Ferguson, Jefferson-Grant Quintet), and Oliver Johnson (Ivana Santilli, Esthero).
