Intentionally or not, Andrea Echeverri's self-titled solo disc plays like a natural sequel to Julieta Venegas's Si. It's a comparison that both helps and hinders Echeverri, best-known as the lead vocalist for Colombian rock heroes Aterciopelados. All 12 tracks (and a bonus remix of "A Eme O") ride a mid-tempo, chill-out groove, anchored by Echeverri's thoughtful vocal work. And like Venegas's outing, Echeverri's album is a marked difference from earlier work, leaving behind crunchy rock guitars for lullaby-like arrangements and soulful grooves. But whereas the commercial appeal of Venegas's Si had the taste of a calculated career move, Echeverri's work seems like a natural extension of her musical instincts. In fact, the album touches on Echeverri's recent pregnancy and the joys of motherhood, which gives the album the wistful, personal feel of a love letter. --Joey Guerra

5 out of 5 stars Soulful and just beautiful.......2007-06-11

this album is close to my heart. I heard it for the fist time when I was expecting my first child and it captured so amazingly eloquently and poetically a woman's journey into motherhood. I sing songs from it to my son. She will forever be a musician I respect because of her work on this album. What an unbelievable gift she has for putting into words what so many of us can't. And to top it off her voice is so soothing.

Una belleza de cd, especialmente para cualquier mujer que ha sido madre or lo va a ser pronto! Pura poesia y eloquencia, y una voz divina ademas.

5 out of 5 stars Reflective baby blues.......2007-01-22

It's all about Andrea's voice; she has an ethereal yet very sexy and sensual voice, in spite of the fact she is singing about her baby! I've loved Aterciopelados since back in the day when her persona was punk rock , accentuated by short, dyed hair, piercings, tats and hard driven music. Along with shedding that image, she changed her style in an evolutionary process that culminates with this self titled disc. The music is softer and more melodic than her work with Aterciopelados but the beauty is that her voice fits the changes. Her hippie persona has been traded in for new motherhood at the time of this recording and the session reflects her new found love, her baby. Her joy in turn turns to our joy as she cosmically gushes about the changes in her life. The album is like a baby-lullaby-chill rock groove. Very cool songs abound, including "Ya Yo No" that is more uptempo and similar to her Aterciopelados work, as is "Amniotico" that is a chill out groove punctuated by electronica and Hector Buitrago, "Lactochampeta" is pure electronic-Latin-groove that only Andrea could pull off lyrically(it's about breastfeeding),the re-mix of "Amorcito"(A Me O)is very cool with a driving bass undertone that is dance friendly and the beautiful and romantic "Amortiquador" fits into the dreamy electronica-rock-bolero style Andrea graciously outfits this disc with. Andrea Echeverri is a premier Latin American artist that like the other half of Aterciopelados, Hector Buirtago, needed a solo avenue and the result was (is) great for fans of Aterciopelados. A great album with a softer edge but if you've been seduced by Andrea before with Aterciopelados than you will love this disc.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for dancing with her - or your - baby.......2006-08-08

"A Eme O" is a track played over and over in my home. Sure makes me happy. I bounce around to it as much as I do to the Black Eyed Peas' "Pump It." I recommend it highly.

2 out of 5 stars Andrea Eceverri.......2006-03-20

The CD is okay, not fantastic. I missed the punk/folk music that Andrea did with Aterciopelados. She writes/sings a lot about experience with motherhood, which got a little boring. I am a mom myself and did not get that thrilled about pregnancy/nursing, etc. which is what she sings about throughout the CD.

5 out of 5 stars Tremendous!.......2006-02-26

I had never listened to Aterciopelados before, and I don't speak Spanish fluently. Neither of these points was an obstacle to my enjoying this great CD.

I love all the songs. While there are electronic touches, the overall feel is acoustic and natural with a definite "Latin" flavor. Her singing is very heartfelt. Best of all, the CD is free of the sonic "sheen" that seems to dull most recordings these days. There's a crispness and clarity to the sound and singing that is like a breath of fresh air.

If I had to find a fault, it would be the hidden track. It's a lame remix of "A Eme O" that doesn't fit with the feel of the rest of the tracks.

More and more over the last few years, I've found myself looking to musicians outside the US and on independent labels to deliver the quality music I need. Everything on US major labels is either Britney-esque or sounds (and smells) like "My Humps." If you relate and need an escape, then I strongly recommend this CD!
