Chayanne has been at it for two decades as a solo artist, and he's rarely faltered as a hot commercial commodity. At the point, the established, charismatic singer could churn out lazy collections of processed pop drivel and still be successful. That's why 2003's Sincero, with all its earthy rhythms and vocal intensity, was such a refreshing surprise. It found Chayanne stretching as an artist, and the results were admirable at this stage in his already impressive career. Cautivo finds Chayanne further exploring more rock-tinged sounds and soaring balladry, but he's still got a firm grasp on the right amount of pop sheen. Guitar licks accent much of the album, as do forceful choruses. Chayanne also sounds better than ever, infusing many of the songs with a newfound confidence and impressive nuance. "No Te Preocupes Por Mi," "Curame" and standout "Nada Sin Tu Amor" are as danceable as past hits "Provocame" and "Salome," but the new tracks are grounded in real instrumentation instead of thumping, synthesized beats. "En La Orilla" is another gem, anchored by a lilting retro vibe. Only the flirty "Swing" seems plucked from one of Chayanne's past albums, and it's consequently Cautivo's weakest moment. Fellow heartthrob Carlos Ponce, who scored his own big hits with "Rezo" and "Escuchame," wrote/co-wrote six of the songs on Cautivo. It's just another unlikely step in Chayanne's evolution, and it somehow makes perfect sense. --Joey Guerra

Superb -- Magnifico!.......2006-09-19

I am puzzled at some of these reviews. I heard some of these songs on the radio and had to research it to find the artist. I bought this one and the greatest hits, just to learn more about Chayanne. This CD is amazing! My favorite is "No Se por Que" but there are several other really excellent songs on here. The quality of the production is also very good. On the other hand, I found the "Grandes Exitos" to be aburrido -- boring. The songs on the "Grandes Exitos" are pretty mediocre -- they sound like the typical formula pop songs -- not bad but just not all that moving or interesting. So I'm astounded that people are trashing this CD. Hey - lucky me though, I got a used copy here really cheap!

In my opinion this is one of the best cd that Chayanne had recorded the songs are catching and have something for every taste. Of course I have my favorite and is number 4 is very romantic and with a strong message.I love the whole cd and I have to listen almost everyday, it has been about 4months since I bought it and it doesn't get old. 10 stars

It might not be the best ablum, but the more you listen to it the more you like it. All the songs are great especially the love songs which his good at. It's a most have if you are a really chayanne fan. Just give it some time, I know you will end up liking it.

Claro que le debe pasar algo, perdió frescura, cree que le puede dar cualquier cosa a su fanaticada sin más..yo pensaba que Chayanne iba a bailar mas y los temas iban a ser mas pegadizos , después del buenísimo Sincero nominado al Grammy, pero la verdad es que aunque lo he escuchado con cariño no me ha convencido nada para que lo recomiende, el anterior era la bomba pero este ni enamora ni me convence.

I hope another kind of album, a diferent Cd of Chayanne, why he doesn't dance?, and I think the songs are worse than the others cd... anyway, I'll wait for the next cd he comes back to his great Grammy Award Nominee days as Sincero.

Some really nice selections.......2007-03-14

There are a few songs on here that are really nice. Some are not as great, but the ones that are good are worth the price of admission. My favorite songs are "No se por que" (passionate, beautiful song), "Te echo de menos", and "No te preocupes por me". I'm happy with the CD.

A True Chayanne Fan.......2006-07-09

I you are a true Chayanne fan, you will enjoy this CD the songs are awesome. I don't understand the previous two comments. The songs are good, specially Nada sin tu amor is a fast song and Swing also for the romantic at heart he has En la orilla y Me llenas de ti, but my favorite is No se por que. At first the CD seems kind of slow but once you listen to the songs a couple of time you fall in love with it.

I have discovered Chayanne with his great album ¨Sincero¨,plenty of great songs, and I'm very dissapointed with ¨Cautivo¨.The uptempo songs are very poor, looks B-copies of the Estefano and Juan Mogica wonderful songs of the past.The ballads, especially the Christian Zalles one, are good, but not enough to fall in love.
I hope in the next tour he don't play many of the songs of Cautivo or I will not go to the show.

Bad songs, bad songwriters, really poor ballads and uptempos....very poor.It's a pitty,well recorded but a really bad job.His worst record ever.
If you want to buy a really good Chayanne album, buy the GRAMMY AWARD NOMINEE as best latin-pop album SINCERO(2003), with the Hits CAPRICHOSA and AL PAN PAN Y AL VINO VINO, the wonderful ballads SENTADA AQUI EN MI ALMA and CUIDARTE EL ALMA, the interesting NO HAY MAS, the crazy-rock SANTA SOFIA, and a bonus with the SPANGLISH VERSION OF THE HIT SINGLE CAPRICHOSA.Really well produced, recorded, great inpired songwriters and too much love and hungry to be the different Chayanne of the past.
Cautivo pretends to be the second part of SINCERO, made only with the Chayanne's friends and personal manager(Read the credits, that's pathetic!!!).A fake

Now Chayanne is only great in his tours singing all his albums...except Cautivo.I bought the record and sold two days later for 3 bucks.Don't deserve more

Excellent!.......2005-11-26

Even though I adore Chayanne, I'm not the type of fan that will blindly listen to and love everything Chayanne puts out... there are a few of songs from earlier CD's that I hit the "skip" button to. But I have to say, I really like a few of these songs, and I LOVE all the others. Way to go Chay!! Some of these songs really do seem to stretch Chayanne as an artist and I really respect that about him... my fave is Despues De Todo because this song has a lot of tension that is beautifully released. My second fave is Swing... there is no release here but it makes my car swerve all over the road!

CD contains DRM software that opens your system to viruses.......2005-11-16

As many people may know by now, Sony was recently caught with egg on their face when a security specialist found out that a recently purchased CD (Van Zant: Get Right With The Man) from Sony music not only installed DRM software (digital rights management, to limit and outright prevent copying music to certain devices), but it did so in such a sneaky way that it hid itself entirely from Windows, and opened the system up to security issues such as viruses.

This CD has the same copyright protection, called XCP. When installed, Sony hijacks your computer and installs custom software which:

1) Hides itself entirely from Windows by installing as a rootkit
2) Hides itself in such a manner that any files begining with $sys$ are also hidden. For example, if you install the XCP copy protection software on your machine, and rename "document.doc" to "$sys$document.doc" it then becomes invivisble to you forever.
3) Installs its own custom CD-Rom drivers to hijack your system. It also sneakily names these drivers "Plug and Play Device Manager" to seem as if it's a part of Windows. Trying to delete these drivers manually will disable your CD-Rom drive entirely.
4) Offers no uninstall option until you manually contact Sony

As of my writing this review, Sony has "apologized" for this incident, and claims they will "re-evaluate" this copyright protection software on their CDs in the future.

In the meantime, a virus is currently running wild, which names itself begining with $sys$ in an attempt to hide from the user and virus scanners.

Several class action lawsuits are also pending against Sony right now.

In summary, as you can tell from above, Sony's actions here are absolutely horrible. This is your music. You purchased it, and they should not have any right to dictate how you can use it, let alone install software which compromises your system security.

This is one of the CDs with Sony's XCP copyright protection software on it, and as a result, you should not buy it to send a message to Sony that this will NOT be tolerated in the future.
