Your collection of Luis Miguel just is not complete without this disc. Classic and passionate Mariachi combined with that wonderful voice - my oh my!! How can you miss?! A great CD. "Motivos" is my personal favorite - makes you feel the passion of first love all over again. Of course it helps if you understand the words, but even if you don't, you can't help but fall in love with his voice and the wonderful music.

I totally disagree with the reviewer that states that his voice is not strong enough for Mariachi Rancheras - he comes through powerfully and does not disappoint this seasoned listener of classic Mariachi. One of my favorite collections.

It took me to years to take this disc out my take-everywhere-disc holder; I couldn't be without this disc, it is back in my playlist again. There are not enough supelatives for this disc. Impeccable arrangements, the vocal stylings and polish of Luis Miguel coupled with the best maricahi in the world , El Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan results in one one of those gems that come around every now and then.LuisMi has always had a mariachi element to his concerts(saw him once for an unforgrtable experience before his prices went beyond my reach), where he stops his pop performance and brings the mariachi out for a change of pace. It was about time for him to make a complete mariachi disc and it has been well received all over the world. Some of the highlights(there are no lowlights) include the title track "Mexico en la Piel " is a heartfelt rendition that will touch you emotionally, "Luz de Luna" is a bittersweet bolero with huapango elements that tears you apart, "El Viajero" sets the tone for a magical colloboration between the mariachi and Mexico's top male performer with playful interludes between horns and vocals and the ever popular "De Que Manera te Olvido" with it's love forlorn lyrics are just a few of the outstanding tracks on a perfect CD. It would be nearly impossible to exclude Jose Alfredo Jimenez songs and so there are several. The beautiful song written for Jose Alfredo's wife "Paloma Querida" is interpreted here by LuisMi with a robust yet lyrical style where he holds his notes to the bend but don't break point and "Un Mundo Raro" that is nothing short of sublime are two of the Jose Alfredo songs featured here. Wouldn't it be nice if he did a tribute album of Jose Alfredo with Mariachi Vargas? It would go immediate platinum. Less I regress, the album is a complete winner that will be played for years to come, across generations and across lands seperated by oceans. Besides the great music the accompanying booklet is colorful with scenic location shots of Mexico and complete lyrics. This is the stuff, a flawless disc for the ages.If you like LuisMi or Mariachi Vargas you will be in heaven for years to come.

Recuerdo cuando oí la música de Luis Miguel para la primera vez en 1988 en Acapulco desde entonces yo adoré su música. Deseo que un día yo pueda ver Luis Miguel en concierto. Esto es un gran álbum y merece el reconocimiento. Nadie canta como Luis Miguel, él canta con la emoción y la compasión. Adoro México y su cultura y todo tienen que ofrecer a un Italiano como mí que vive en Toronto. Viva México y Luis Miguel.

at first I was little sckeptical about Luis Miguel's voice for mariachi, been always a fan of his romances and ballad or bolero recordings, when I heard Mexico en la piel I was blown away by his voice with mariachi, I can definettly now say he could sing in any style, and do it well.

I'm not a fan of mariachi music, but I can listen to this album many times and never det tired of it. I have some other albums recorded by Luis Miguel and this is one the best he ever did. I would give 10 stars.

In my opinion, not his best. I much prefer 33, Todos Los Romances as far as singing, mood music and Luis Miguel at his finest!
