orishas comes back with another amazing record!! this cd had me completely hooked!! as if "a lo cubano" wasn't amazing enough, the guys from orishas come back with a bang. even without flaco-pro, who had some serious skills. he left the group about 4 shows into a tour because his brother got in with some bad people in miami. he was killed, and flaco-pro turned to booze. but be on the look out for flaco, because word is he's still writing and collaborating and recording...
anyway, i can't wait til "el kilo," their third cd drops march 29th. i saw a video online of "naci orishas" (the first single) online and it's incredible!!

Good, but not as good as their first album.......2005-01-11

First of all, I am a huge rap and hip hop fan. I own albums from just about every rapper out there. Orishas first album "A lo Cubano" is one of my favorite rap albums of all time. "Emigrante" is a good encore for them but they clearly miss Flaco-Pro who in my opinion was by far their best flower and rhyme spitter. Apparently he had a falling out with the rest of them. He is the reason that their first album was so good. Without him, it seems that they got away from rap and went into more hip hop which is fine. Emigrante is good, but Orishas badly misses Flaco-Pro.

Orishas's 3rd work's release date is not official yet but will must likely come out around September 20th.... so be on the look out!

Their new work promises to be another classic just like "A Lo Cubano"....and they are also coming to USA on tour later this year....!

Dear Hip Hop Lovers.... I present to you "Orishas", your first and last stop in latin hip hop, they are simply taking the world by storm, just when you thought hip hop's best work could only be heard in English...we were simply wrong... by combining traditional cuban music with hip hop they are able to create a never heard before fresh hip hop sound that speaks for itself!

This... their second album, has proven once more their abilities to simply be the very best at what they do...and that's the truth...

All songs are great, but specially "Que Pasa"; "Guajiro"; "Asi Fue"; "Niños"; "300 Kilos"; "Testimonio" & "La Vida Pasa"... The album contains Spanish & French lyrics, but don't worry because I'm sure their flow will make you nod your head without understanding a word of it, that's a promise... as a result both of their albums are part of my most frequent played-permanent collection!

Their 3rd album is being released sometime next month!...

For both cd's I thank Orishas, Thank you Orishas!

Pudieron esforzarse más!
Perdieron un poco la pegada del Primer CD "A lo cubano" Creo que al darle mayor protagonismo al "no rapero" las canciones perdieron su fuerza, cuando en realidad la potencia del grupo está en el hip-hop, los ritmos y sonidos tradicionales afro-cubanos y la forma de expresarse de los habaneros, que te parece estar metido en la Habana, además de sus mensajes muy positivos y profundos a pesar del tono popular, el cantante entonces es excelente para darle toques a las canciones pero no para tomar el protagonismo. Pero no se extraviaron tanto porque ahí está el tema "¿QUÉ PASA?" lo mejor que el grupo ha hecho en su carrera y muy bueno también el video, para guardarlo para siempre, sobre todo los cubanos.

Different from "A Lo Cubano".......2002-05-09

This is more rap-based, and less afro-cuban-roots-based music than you might have heard in "A Lo Cubano." It also incorporates some of the influences that will inevitably combine with Orishas as a result of their living in Paris.
This in no way pollutes the music, but instead adds depth and worldliness to it.

Emigrante is a bit harder, similar in some ways to the lyrical style of Control Machete, but still with the cuban harmonies and melodies that make this band accessible to many. I recommend it, but ease your way into it with A Lo Cubano if you haven't already. I share Orishas with whomever I can find.

The price is fair for an import, though a US version is bound to make its way over here, right?

WoW! Very funky and great. There is one track on here that sounds like Dan the Automator could have put together. There is another that has this very intense base drum, and noise guitar in the background, very funky.

Not a fan.......2007-04-12

Sorry to say I'm not a huge fan of Tanghetto even after seening them play live at La Viruta last month. Few of the tracks are just undanceable and the music gets pretty boring after a while. I say if you want neuvo tango try Narcotango or Otro Aires.

A conglomeration of meaningless noise.......2007-02-27

After discovering and loving the sound of Gotan Project I was shopping around for groups with a similar sound. I stumbled along Emigrante and upon reading the other reviews written on this site about this cd, I thought I had found another gem. Boy was I wrong. The first track drew me in and left me spellbound, unfortunately, it was all downhill after that. I was listening to the cd for the first time in my car and forgot it was even on. The rest of the songs were so uninspiring, the music soon became nothing more than meaningless background noise.

This is one of the best electronic tango CDs I've listened to. The distict melody, variation of use of instruments blend perfectly with the bold beat and rhythm, it's definitely something one can both dance to and lounge with.

I have listened to some other electrotango CDs, and a lot of them tend to be repetitive, background-ish, and boring. This one is definitely what electrotango music should be.

The other CD I really like is titled "La Revancha del Tango" by group called Gotan Project

Best Neo-Tango Disk of 2004.......2005-01-24

Tanghetto's "Emigrante (Electrotango)" is tango for the new millennium. This is Neo-Tango, and has been well received from Buenos Aires to Nijmegen to New York. This is the tango for the "under 30 crowd." It is not your father's tango. Some people do not even think it is tango. These are the purists who call it "tango loco." The music is a fusion of modern tango with techno and jazz to a traditional tango beat. "Traditional tango beat" may be misleading because most tango (other than candombe) does not use percussion instruments. It is an interesting sound. Did I mention that this disk was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2004? You will note that it may take a long time between the ordering of this disk and its delivery. It is well worth the wait.

So much for that. If you are an Argentine tango dancer, you should be now familiar with the Neo-Tango genre, and if you are not familiar with Neo-Tango, perhaps you should learn something. There are many milongas (Argentine social dances) where this music is played. You will also hear the music of Gotan Project, some of the Gotan Project remixes, as well as the Bajofondo Tango Club and music of Carlos Libedinsky. The point is that people dance to this music. When the music is played, get out on the floor and dance to it.

My favorite selections on the disk are "Inmigrante" and "Alexanderplatz Tango." You can feel the inspiration of Piazzola combined with the bandoneon and electronic keyboard. Although the above were my favorite pieces, I find the whole disk quite danceable. It has some possibilities for "cross over" into the mainstream from salon tango to club dancing, so this disk should be taken seriously. Yes, I could venture to say that if this disk was played at my local Veterans of Foreign Wars club, there would be people on the floor dancing to the music just from an appreciation of the music and the beat.
