Steven Wright's Only Live CD.......2007-07-17

This Grammy-nominated CD was recorded at Wolfgang's in San Francisco and Park West in Chicago and released in 1985 at the height of the 80's comedy boom. Steven Wright is sharp and at the top of his game, and the audiences are really into the performances. This is a comedy classic, finally available in a domestic CD release as of 2005. Despite his popularity and lengthy career, this is Wright's only album. As Wright has said, "When I made that album, I noticed that the material on it became so well-known that I couldn't really perform it anymore." It's too bad, but all the more reason to own this disc.

Funny, Funny, Funny!!!.......2007-02-15

I recently purchased this CD to upgrade from the cassette that I own. I had not listened to this for a while but I was laughing right away when I played the disc. 22 years after its original release, I was still laughing at some of the funnier material that I still remembered word for word. If you like stand-up, give this one a listen. Steven definitely has a strange way about himself but the material is real sharp.

Classic comedy!!!.......2006-09-14

Steven Wright is a hilarious comedian with a bland, straight delivery that might not be for everybody. But if you are a Steven Wright fan, this is the only comedy cd that he has released. This CD is old, probably 20 years old, so some of the stuff may be a bit dates, but it is still hilarious. Wright has gone on to do some acting and has appeared on talk shows. There are also many jokes attributed to Wright on the internet. Many of those sound like they could be, but really aren't. For true steven wright comedy, check out this CD. While there may be some sexual innuendo in a few jokes, the humor is really clean and not any bad language that I can remember.

I'm not sure what the "Other Hits" metioned in the title of this CD are as no other tracks on it showcase Renee Diggs' awesome vocal talent better than "Object of My Desire." I still think of Teena Marie when I hear it.

Excellent 80's CD.......2007-02-13

I have been trying to get this on CD for quite a while; I think that Renee Diggs was one of the most powerful female vocalists of our time, who unfortunately didn't get the chance to prove it. My favorite songs on the CD are "The More We Love" and "Am I Still The One?" I recommend this cd to any and everyone who loves the 80's!

Another Seventies Duo With A big Sound.......2006-10-05

This is another of those '70s groups which all sounded alike. I thought they had recorded "Sweet Surrender" and led CSouthcott astray back in the past by suggesting such. He didn't look very far. Diamond Girl was their best, in my opinion, but 'We May Never Pass This Way Again' and 'Summer Breeze' are what gets played today. I wish someone would resurrect 'Diamond Girl" just once.

This is just the best music and memories of the best times of my life. My daughter was named after the song Jessica, and I could not find the song anywhere so she has never heard it. 24 years old and she will now get to hear where her name came from. This is something everyone who grew up in the 70's should have, and take out and listen to when you need to smile.

Like many I owned this in Vinyl and was amazed it took so long To come out.
And to those who said they found this album a little bit sappy, I say "So the hell what." Everything in that era was sappy and if your worried that a little sappiness may alter your manhood then I recommend against the purchase of this Cd.
But if you want to listen to something thats gonna make you feel pretty damn good this is it.
S&C have a well blended album here. The well known and recognized "Diamond girl" followed by "Ruby jean and Billy Lee"leads it off.
Both were big hits and still sound good.
"Intone my servant" follows and though not a hit you'll wonder why. like all the others a beautifully uplifting harmonic piece.
"We may never pass this way again" another hit shows once again how S&C can change a beautifull melody and lift your soul right out of your body and make it fly.
"Nine houses" starts off kinda odd (The song has a mid east flare to it) but hear it out. Vocals will come in lator and pick it up.
"Standing on a mountain top" by far is one of my favorites a great countryish sound and a really great sounding guitar in this one that'll make you feel like dancing and singing to it.
"It's gonna come down on you" a minor hit shoulda been "major" starts off mellow and beautifull and like most of there songs in this album just lifts you right up with an increase in tempo.
"Jessica" has got to be the most sappy song of the bunch. But, Hey! my niece's name is "Jessica and It was once a favorite of mine and still is a beautifull song.
""Dust on my saddle" A country diddy that you may find yourself singing word for word after some time.
"Wisdom" is the only song I never listen to its a jazzy piece and I dont care for Jazz much but even I gotta admit they do show off their talent on the horns.
In short this is a great album from beginning to end (Which is rare to find nowadays) and really represents the times in which it was written (Early 70's)

I think Seals & Crofts are a really underappreciated duo who made a lot of great music over the course of their initial run from 1969-1980. However, 1973's "Diamond Girl" is a painfully weak record which, ironically, was also their highest charting album in the US, peaking at #4--these two things don't sit together well, and as a result, it becomes easy to understand why many people would trash the group. It does start off great with the somewhat jazzy title track which was a big hit, and alas, has received an endless amount of airplay over the years, so it's likely that you may be rather sick of it. "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)" certainly displays songwriting craft and also has some touching sentimentality, but it's sickly-sweet and the merciless amount of airplay it's received over the years doesn't entirely help. "Ruby Jean And Billie Lee", written for the duo's wives who are featured on the back cover, is an overwrought ballad with some really clumsy and cringe-worthy turns of phrase. "Nine Houses" is one of their characteristic epic tributes to the Baha'i faith, and despite the accomplished musicianship, it feels thrown together and incoherent, failing to build up momentum, and it starts to really drag over the course of its 7-minute length. "Jessica" is a sickly-sweet pop tune that also suffers from some corny melodicism as well as the guitar + mandolin breaks that interrupt the flow of the song. "Standin' On A Mountain Top" and "Dust On My Saddle" are both tracks that James Seals had written in the '60s, and they sure do sound like they were hauled out in desperation as if the duo hadn't be able to come up with enough strong new material--the former is a generic bluesy rocker, and the latter is country-western fluff with silly 'spoken' sections and an overly-repeated chorus. The album closing instrumental "Wisdom", which sounds like something you're likely to hear in a driver's education feature from the early '70s, has James Seals demonstrating his technical proficiency on the saxophone, but his playing rambles on as if he was more interested in merely showing off than anything else. On the more positive side, "Intone My Servant" does have some catchiness and a nice bluesy feel on the chorus, and the ballad "It's Gonna Come Down (On You)" is okay, although it feels underdeveloped. All that said, this is NOT the album to use if you're trying to demonstrate the excellence that this duo frequently offered--writer's block seems to have been the key problem, but the strange thing is that their 1976 masterpiece album "Get Closer" contains 3 songs that are copyrighted no later than 1972, so it's a mystery why Seals would haul out a track like "Dust On My Saddle" when he had a gem like "Don't Fail" waiting in the wings. Even with the extremely low list price of $6.98 that this CD is currently going for, the album is so weak and lacking standout songs that it's really not the bargain you may initially think it is; apart from the title track, there's not a single track on the whole damn album that's truly a gem--you keep hoping with each passing song that there must be at least a gem or two, but to no avail. I do want to add though that one can't help but wonder if healthy sales of this CD would help to FINALLY spur Rhino to release other Seals & Crofts albums on CD which remain woefully unavailable. Still, "Diamond Girl" is a terrible introduction to their work and should really only be sought out by Seals & Crofts' biggest fans.

Diamond Girl" is a vintage collection of folk-rock tunes clearly rooted to the mid-70s and one of the finer albums to emerge from that cluttered genre. Though Seals and Crofts were a duo, their fine-honed sound would not have caught the public's ear without the able assistance of producer Louie Shelton, who really shaped and smoothed their sound, and multi-instrumentalist Jim Lichtig, who shares writing credits for several Seals and Crofts' songs. A cast of fine session musicians contribute as well, and the set.

I would say that nearly all of us who listened to the radio back when this CD was popular will always recognize the opening chords of Diamond Girl within a millisecond and drew comfort and permission from the philosophy in We May Never Pass This Way (Again). This CD has other jewels as well, Nine Houses, Jessica, and Wisdom, and all in all contains more Baha'i themes than some find comfortable. A pair of older tracks, such as Dust on My Saddle and Standin' on a Mountain Top, both penned before there was a Seals and Crofts, do not hold up as well.

Note that this CD is not actually a Warner Brothers release, which may bode well for those, like myself, hoping to see more of this duo's catalog appear on CD. After their antiabortion stance on a later recording, "Unborn Child," the band's popularity began to wane and they found themselves being judged more on politics than music.

Harry at his best.......2007-07-04

Almost every song has that Harry magic. Not to take anything away from his other albums, I like this one the best. There's an energy in his stories that is new, fresh and profound. Your passions will certainly be gently agitated with these delightful and well constructed illustrations.

Definitely worth lending an ear.......2006-04-07

This is NOT Chapin's strongest album. It IS a collection of some of his easier-to-hear songs - "W.O.L.D." was Top-40 for a bit when it came out. "Short Stories" complements Chapin's other work by filling in some of the gaps (for lack of a better word) in his earlier albums.

Great Album -- One of His Best.......2005-09-15

This is the first Harry Chapin album I ever listened to, back in the days when I was doing college radio. Although the vinyl LP has long been worn out, I still popped it on the turntable now and then.

Fortunately the album has finally been released on CD and it sounds excellent. In addition to the Single "W.O.L.D.", the CD contains Harry's all time greats including three of my favorites, "Mail Order Annie," "Mr. Tanner," and "Old College Avenue."

This is an unforgettable album. There are a few more unreleased albums still to be released (Harry's second live album "Legends of the Lost and Found"). Hopefully they will follow.

Music was Harry Chapin's life AND his livelihood.......2005-06-20

"Short Stories" was the third album of story songs produced by Harry Chapin in 1973 and because of his hit single "W.O.L.D." the album made it up to #61 on the Billboard album chart, which was just a notch below what his debut album "Heads & Tales" did because of what is considered his signature song, "Taxi." His fourth album, "Verities & Balderdash" would make it all the way to #4 because of his biggest hit, "Cats in the Cradle." This history lesson on the relative sales success of Harry Chapin's albums is an example of irony because all of Harry's fans know that his most memorable songs were too long to end up on the radio, a fact underscored by "Taxi."

So when I listen to "Short Stories" again and remember how Harry Chapin got me through my first semester of college by allowing me to wallow in my depression over my love life (or lack thereof), the song that stands out for me is "Mr. Tanner." Now, I know that this classic Harry Chapin song featuring the vocals of big John Wallace is not really a love song in the sense that it is about a man and a woman, but it is about the love of a man for something. Besides, "O Holy Night" is one of my favorite Christmas songs and I like the way it is incorporated into the song. More on target when it comes to melancholy songs would be "Mail Order Annie," the story of a mail order bride who is a lonely man's hope for happiness.

The title song provides a context for Chapin's story songs, and while there are only a few gems on this album, "Short Stories" proved that Harry was writing about more serious subjects than other balladeers at that same time (e.g., James Taylor, Cat Stevens). The key things is that with Harry the songs are about desperation without being depressing (at least, not as depressing as your own life), which is why we always care about the characters he signs about, whether it is the nomad disc jockey, the sad woman they call "Easy," or the dry cleaner who signs softly to himself as he sorts through the clothes. The gift of Harry Chapin was that he could move us with his simple, sad songs, which is part of the reason why he is so sorely missed by so many of us.

This band of "Wild Eyed Southern Boys" (to quote one of their album titles) was led by Skynyrd lead singer Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother, Donnie. They released their first album in 1977, the year the elder Van Zant died in a plane crash, and while their early work centered on swaggering boogie-rocker Van Zant trying to carry his fallen brother's torch, it was co-lead guitarist and chief songwriter Don Barnes who slowly emerged as the group's motivating force through such power-pop hits such as 1981's "Hang On Loosely," '82's "Caught Up in You," and '83's "If I'd Been the One"--all of which made .38 Special one of the era's more interesting hard rock bands. --Billy Altman

TAKING THEIR BEST SHOTS.......2006-01-07

38 SPECIAL-FLASHBACK: 38 Special was one of the more pop oriented (and most successful) Southern rock outfits, due more to co-lead singer/guitarist Don Barnes' ability to pen and sing righteous hooks than to the contributions of Donnie Van Zant (he of the famed trio of Van Zant brothers, two of which have anchored Lynyrd Skynyrd at opposite ends of that band's career). On early classics ROCKIN' INTO THE NIGHT and WILD EYED SOUTHERN BOYS the two shared vocal duties, but the group soon fared better chartwise (losing some of their edge in the process) when Barnes took over as frontman, leaving Van Zant with little to do but look on. Resulting big hits FANTASY GIRL, CAUGHT UP IN YOU, and HOLD ON LOOSELY, while top notch Top 40 fare, began to all sound alike, and soon enough Barnes dealt the gang a crushing blow by quitting their ranks for a still-born solo career. This necessitated the addition of capable but mellower songwriter/vocalist Max Carl, who played a keyboard instead of an axe (later Carl also "subbed" for the irreplacable Mark Farner in a faux Grand Funk)...38 Special's cheesey prom anthem, the syrupy SECOND CHANCE (thankfully not included here), proved to be their last chance. The inevitable return of Barnes couldn't rescue the group from endless "Flashback" tours and hits repackagings. That said, this original anthology remains far and away their best, even if those Southern Boys ain't quite as wild as they used to be. RATING: FOUR BULLETS

Despite notable flaws, their best single-disc collection........2004-11-19

38 Special rose from the ashes of 70's classic rockers Lynyrd Skynard - leader Donnie Van Zant's brother, Ronnie's band (who, sadly died with many other members in a 1977 plane crash).

At first, Donnie's band started out with a soundalike, southern boogie rock sound. As they hit the mainstream, they became southern/hard arena rock, then slowly transitioned into a more pop/rock band as the 80's progressed (peaking with their biggest hit--1988's lite pop/power ballad "Second Chance", which came out after this was released in 1987). All three areas are covered on this collection, though it focuses most heavily on the 2nd one.

1979's ROCKIN' INTO THE NIGHT only features the title track, which has traces of their early pure-southern rock sound, but clearly shows their beginnings as a pop band.

1981's WILD-EYED SOUTHERN BOYS:
-Hold On Loosely
-Fantasy Girl

This was their breakout. These two were the biggest hits from the album, (and, the first, of their career) so I can't complain about their inclusion at all. Though there were other worthwhile songs, like "First Time Around" or "Hittin' and Runnin'."

1982's SPECIAL FORCES:
-Caught Up in You

This was their first of the more slightly power ballad-laden pop hits that would turn them even more into the mainstream. Though this is a great song, "Back On the Track" and especially the lost hit "You Keep Runnin' Away" should've made the cut!

1983's TOUR DE FORCE:
-If I'd Been the One
-Back Where You Belong

I'll definitely say these two songs - which aren't unlike "Caught Up" in sound - are the best from the album, but it had alot more to offer too, especially the southern-sounding ballad "One Time for Old Times," another hit.

1986's STRENGTH IN NUMBERS:
-Like No Other Night

Okay, this was a GREAT album - further going into 80's style arena rock. The best of the ones featured. I can't believe it only got one track. This one is also a mid tempo (slightly) southern pop/rocker, but it sounds a little too like the previous hits. The high-energy, charged "Someone Like You" or the nice ballad "One in A Million" would've been way better choices.

Okay, these certainly aren't bad renditions, but this really bugs me about collections sometimes. These were great choices as studio songs that would've represented their correspinding albums, and improved the quality of the collection quite a bit. Why did they have to use live versions instead!? That's what "Live" albums are for. Oh well, that's life.

This (almost) makes up for the songs not included. The former is a sillier, energetic pop/rock number. The latter is especially good - a happy rocker, that's sound is almost a mix of the previous year's STRENGTH IN NUMBERS and the following year's even more poppish ROCK & ROLL STRATEGY albums.

NEW SONGS:
-Same Old Feeling

This is another reason to pick this up, as it's the only place I know of to get this song. Again taking the SIN album's general sound, they give us another winner with this mid paced, Journey-esque lite arena rock love song.

Overall, this is still the best single disc collection of theirs. I would still recommend all their 80's studio albums, though, to get a better idea of their sound. I can't stress SIN and R&R STRATEGY enough (even though many people hate the latter for its pop sound).

Rare opportunity.......2004-06-07

This is a rare case of a compilation that is worthwhile and pleasant to listen.

The tunes were well chosen, the tracks flow like if they belonged to the same studio album.

As a band, 38 Special were really gifted songwriters.

Rod the Mod sexes it up!.......2005-08-29

This lambasted,forgotten wooly masterwork is the ultimate fruition of Rod's relentless fascination with Stonesy sexuality and male bonding, Keith and Mick style. 'Foolish' rocks with frightening regularity and Stewart even takes time out from his hip-swiveling bravado to tenderize our hearts with three of his most achingly heartfelt ballads. While "Every Picture" remains the touchstone by which all great pseudo-rock critics measure Rod, I prefer to take him in all at once, much like the tender schoolgirls who rumple the bedsheets in his dreams.

The closest solo Stewart gets to The Faces!!!!!!!.......2005-04-05

If you love the more "rockin" music that Rod Stewart is associated with than this is the cd for you! I was surprised that this did not carry onto become a classic cd and that I had to wait so long for it to be available!
Every song on this is a winner and most have that rock n roll guitar riffs reminiscent of The Faces (and some Stones songs which also feature Ron Wood).
Buy this cd, and enjoy!

Major Bang for the Buck.......2005-03-17

I'm not a fan of Stewart's cheesey post Faces material but I've always liked this album. The title cut and "Gi' Me Wings" rank among the best of Stewart's rowdy repertoire. Sure, there are some of the usual radio oriented "chick songs", but the good tracks make it all worthwhile.

As for the super low price and the Rhino Flashback label: Don't let it scare you; the remastering job is quite good, although the packaging smacks of bargain bin, but I bought it to listen to, not look at. I don't understand why Rhino didn't issue this on their standard label since the flashback label has been always been for compilations. Maybe we're going to start seeing more reissues released on the label. Personally, I'd prefer to pay more and get the standard packaging and liner notes.

All things considered, I'm quite happy. Sound quality is always my top consideration - and it is excellent.

Priceless, at any price.......2007-07-06

Years ago, watching peter Jennings cover the funeral procession of Princess Diana, my soul was captured by some hauntingly beautiful music that at times played in the background. So began my mission to find out what it was, who wrote it and how I could get it. After some correspondence with the network I was put in touch with the woman who "put together" that part of the programming. All she could remember is that it came from the movie "Black Beauty". THEN I found out how many versions of that had been made lol. With determination, I finally found it, and had a local music store order it for me.
There are no words to describe what this music does to me. I did try listening to some of the other tracks, but they didn't even come close. I rate this music right up there with the 1971 score for "Jane Eyre" by John Willams... and that's pretty high :D

Very nice overview of Elfman work. Insufficient by itself but worth having along with the full soundtracks. Bonus disc is a nice extra.

I Love Danny Elfman's music so much that I have started my own collection of the soundtracks that he composed. For a while, I was trying to find the "Beetlejuice" theme song from the TV show, but thanks to this release, I finally have it!!! Keep up the good work Elfman!

Music For A Darkened Theater, Vol.2 is a great cd!!! I love all of the tracks on both cd's,but my fav. ones are the t.v. scores and the This Is Halloween demo!!! If you love this,then i recomend looking at all the actually albums on this cd and his other works!!!! good job,Danny Elfman.

Bring on Volume 3.......2005-05-04

The liner notes and "This is Halloween Demo" on this compilation are well worth the CD price by themselves. Danny comments on each of the tracks on the CDs which is a rare and ego-free look at what a composer thinks of his own work.

Edward Scissorhands is magical, Black Beauty is a rollercoaster of emotion, and Dolores Claiborne makes me want to find the nearest piano. This is not a "Most Popular" compilation, rather it aptly showcases Danny Elfman's (and Orchestrator, Steve Bartek's) brilliance and wide range of style.

Every suite has an Elfman signature, such as the layered complexity which never sounds overdone, or the use of a choir as an instrument.

This (and Volume 1) are examples of the work of a modern day composer who consistently stands out as one of the best.

If you like this and have the spare cash, grab the individual scores from some of the movies he has worked on, including "Men In Black", "Spiderman", "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Edward Scissorhands", "Mars Attacks" and so many more.

The One That Has You're So Vain.......2007-07-16

I agree with those that have said the only reason for a FP fan to really want this is for the song "You're So Vain", I'm really surprised it's so low in price, I am tempted to pay the 7 bucks for one song, but I have all 3 of thier studio Cd's, and for that one song seems strange.

Perhaps in the future a better collection of songs also, why "Bottle In Front Of Me" is on here I don't know, and only 10 songs it's a poor representation of the band. They might as well put out an essential 2 CD set and put "You're so Vain" at the end. Leave off 3 or 4 songs from "Whipped", and leave off maybe 1 or 2 from each of the first 2 CD's and there you have it.

This one is lacking, even for a band that only put out 3 CD's of studio material.

first of all i love the 80s the soft rock the heavy metal even some pop songs.and since being an 80s freak i totalyy love all the types of ballads put out at the time, and thats where FP comes in "I think and im pretty sure that the best ballad and song of all times is in fact without a doubt the amazing teary eyed ballad """""HOUSE OF PAIN"""""" and for the rest of the songs i have yet to find out.But this is a perfect ex. of a cd anyone should buy just for that perfect song.So please buy it at least just to hear a wonderful moment in the history of MUSIC.

An excellent finisher to your Faster Pussycat catalog.......2006-03-11

It was with much surprise that I came across a "Greatest Hits" cd for Faster Pussycat, at random, in a department store a few years ago. Given their short recording career, they weren't one of the likely bands to get such a treatment. I was even more amazed to notice the hard-to-find Carly Simon cover 'You're So Vain'. I immediately bought it and haven't regretted it one bit.

The track listing on "Greatest Hits" includes a mix of songs (hits and non-singles) from the three studio albums released by Faster Pussycat between 1987-1992. The versions here are the original studio cuts, not cheap rerecorded versions or live cuts. Four of the tracks can be found on the 1987 self-titled debut, which include 'Cathouse', 'Don't change that song', 'Bathroom Wall' and 'Bottle in front of me.' While some may lament that tunes such as 'Shooting you down' and 'Babylon' were left off, keep in mind that only ten cuts are featured altogether. It is also worth noting that the self-titled Faster Pussycat effort is an album that contained no real filler, so pretty much anything would have fit on here.

The best-selling Faster Pussycat album, "Wake Me When It's Over" is also represented by four cuts. These are 'Poison Ivy', 'Slip of the tongue', 'Where there's a whip, there's a way' and 'House of Pain.' Again, there is little to be upset about regarding the track selection on this album. One more cut, 'Nonstop to nowhere', was the single from the 1992 release, "Whipped." "Whipped" was the final release by Faster Pussycat and the band went their separate ways after the commercial failure of this third studio album from the group. They did eventually reunite, which may have something to do with this album existing in the first place.

'You're So Vain' was a cover song performed by Faster Pussycat during the early 1990's. Until now, it was only able to be located on a various artists compilation album and also a limited edition ep from the band. The cover is very well done and worth the price of purchase alone, considering the low price of this greatest hits collection. A lot of fans have long demanded this song, making it a Faster Pussycat cult classic.

The negatives are that there are only ten song selections here and plenty of cuts could have easily made it onto this album. For some reason, the profanity in 'Slip of the tongue' is slickly edited out. This is the type of thing you'd see on a clean edit of a popular album. Really, it poses no problem for most people. If it matters all that much, it is easy enough to find the source album ("Wake Me When It's Over") that the tune comes from. There are no other songs edited in this fashion, so this is the only cut that doesn't appear in its original form. All ten of the tracks here do appear in full-length form, meaning they are not edited for running time. That is identical to the original albums, including 'Nonstop to nowhere' which runs close to seven minutes (a shorter radio single version of 'Nonstop' exists but thankfully that one was not used here).

Given the cost, there is no reason for a fan of Faster Pussycat to not pick this one up. This is the easiest way to locate 'You're So Vain' and it sure beats paying a hefty price for the 1992 ep it can be found on. The funny thing is that the 1987 debut, as a whole, is actually a little bit superior to this compilation. For that reason, this is one of those albums that should be purchased to finish the Faster Pussycat catalog, not start it. Most new fans looking into the band will want to start with the self-titled release, which introduced this underrated and underappreciated band to the world. That is just my opinion.

This "Greatest Hits" collection is not band approved, not that most of them are, but the liner notes and presentation on this one are both very respectable. The label that issued this collection has done similar compilations, of varying quality, for artists such as Foreigner, Twisted Sister, White Lion and Winger. Like this one, those come at the same low price and provide a good sampling of the catalog for each artist. You can't really go wrong here, not at all. Faster Pussycat "Greatest Hits" comes highly recommended. Perfect for the diehard, it is also the easiest way for the casual fan to obtain the one song that matters to most people, 'House of Pain.'

Good Overview for Casual Fan.......2005-06-22

Yes, the song "Slip of the Tongue" has a slight edit (probably the radio version) but otherwise the songs seem untouched. While there are a few great tunes missing from their albums - most notably Babylon, Pulling Weeds, and No Room for Emotion - this is a fairly complete collection.

Where it is really a valuable collection is for the song "You're So Vain", as this is the only place I've been able to find this song. It was originally done for some kind of 25th anniversary CD in 1990 for their label, and I've been unable to locate that song or that CD anywhere for years. For that reason alone it's valuable for the Faster Pussycat fan, or anyone who enjoyed this genre.

Save your money.......2003-12-17

I have been purchasing albums that I had during my college days on cassette tape and replacing them with CD's. When I saw the Faster Pussycat Greatest Hits I couldn't wait to buy it. It claims to the "The Original Songs you remember by the Original Artists you love". Flashback Records is a division of Rhino and for some reason they released "CENSORED" songs on this cd. That is not the ORIGINALS as promised. There was no warning what so ever on the cd to claim it is CENSORED music. Do not buy this piece of crap!

Decidedly his best, no contractually obligated filler........2007-01-31

If You want a one disc, clear, concise overview of what Gary Wright is capable of on a good day, this is the disc to buy. There are a few very minor omisssions, regrettably, as there is much more room on a single disc for a few more great GW songs. These were all released during the height of his creative recording powers. Much of these songs were ignored after the Dreamweaver album. Everyone expected DW II with Light of Smiles. Make no mistake, it's a great album, no let down, just a little too spiritual thematically for a mainstream audience. The Discofied overtones of Touch and Gone further alienated even his hard core audience. But then in 1979 he released exceptional, ultimately satisfying and listenable album, Headin' Home with the awesome ITOWBBYS and the not included here Follow Next To You, and very little filler otherwise. He followed this by his by best solo recording ever, The Right Place, the rightful successor to The Dreamweaver, and in every way its equal. Full of rock, funk, and synthesized jazz and orchestral workouts. It even spawned 2 great early MTV videos for Heartbeat and IRWKY. Pitiably, by 1982, his progressive rock image was not suitable for the burgeoning viewing audience, about 6 months prior, and about to be hit with the third wave of British Invasion bands. These songs come from those 5 great albums and arguably are the best one-disc selection, albeit with a few omissions. Get this Disc as an introduction to a great and visionary artist. And then delve, one by one, into the full length albums. I recommend Dreamweaver and Right Place first, then Light of Smiles, Headin' Home and Touch and Gone in that order. They are very hard to get on CD, and highly collectible, at least until Gary and his label decide to release another run of them.
