The Miami-based Colombian pop/rock/tropical fusionists Bacilos evolve with a new maturity on this 12-track CD. Singer/songwriter Jorge Villamizar eschews simple romantic pop fare for something more in line with his 30-something perspective. Sin Verguenza offers commentary on issues of social-political import ("Sangre Americana"), cocaine wars ("La Olla"), and innocent times ("En Los '70s"). The usual Bacilos tools are in full bloom from cool vocal harmonies and crisp melodic hooks to rocking guitars and party dance rhythms, all spiced by the occasional horns, violins, and banjos. "Miro La Luna y Pienso en ti," is an instantly catchy tropical bolero. The feeling throughout is a relaxed joy. There's the laid-back Beatlesque rhythms of "Colores Colores," a simple tune about racial unity, fueled by the sharp banjo picking by Brazilian producer Tom Capone. Another highlight is "Porque Brillamos," a slow, guitar-fueled song where Villamizar philosophically questions the intent and the limits of love. --Ramiro Burr

4 out of 5 stars Nitido.......2006-01-22

5 out of 5 stars Better vocals, great songs.......2005-06-15

After their previous album produced a couple of hits, Bacilos went back to the drawing board. Singer and writer Jorge Villamiz honed his vocal technique. Sinverguenza takes Bacilos to a new level of music-making. Some songs on this album offer social commentary, others are about human relationships. No two songs are alike. It is impossible to determine which will be radio hits, as all offer something unique. This album is a leap forward for Bacilos in music making. This is a much better, mature, and talented group than in their previous album. If you liked their previous album, or if you just like great modern latin music, buy this album.

1 out of 5 stars A Step Backwards.......2005-04-21

I think Bacilos would be well-served to go back to the drawing board. This album sounds like they did not put the work in to write some excellent songs; the music's sound is not very memorable, the lyrics aren't very memorable, and it's almost as if they just changed the words from bad songs from their previous albums to make this one. I saw them in concert in Virginia, and unfortunately they were so caught up in promoting their albums that they played two of their most famous songs two or three times, and alienated a number of fans there who were previously Bacilos-lovers (and emerged as more impressed with upstarts such as CABAS). So, I agree with the other reviewer that rated this CD a bust. Save your money for emerging latin rock stars such as Locos Por Juana, rather than a Bacilos that is not putting its best effort forwards.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised.......2005-01-18

I had low expectationsfor this album, and my perceptions of where the group might be headed turned out to be false. I originally had beleived that they would be another latin group who only managed to produce a one wonder album. They show signs of different maturation in this album from their first album Caraluna, with soulful songs such as Sangre Americana while staying true to their roots of fun pop latin funk with songs like Pasos de Gigante, and Colores. Definitely an album that can be enjoyed from beginning to end.

5 out of 5 stars Bacilos return him to Make!.......2005-01-10

Bacilos not have a you that that I like the truth, at the beginning they didn't convince me but the truth this album this very good one, although in the list of Latin albums sold in U.S they didn't have a good premiere it doesn't care while you like it, the first single "PASOS DE GIGANTE" it is quite good the same as the rest of the disk.
