Pura poesía. Silvio es inigualable. Este CD tiene canciones muy buenas como: "Gaviota", "Canción Urgente Para Nicaragua" (que se acaba de poner de moda nuevamente), "La Maza" y "Unicornio."

...but who could buy a Silvio Rodriguez' Album hoping to find a song by Cecilia Noel? You would be the worst buyer ever. If you buy this Album, you'll enjoy Silvio's melodies that are almost magic. He is an outstanding guitarrist, he has an extraordinay dramatic sese and emotional range. But if you could understand spanish, you might understand his lyrics that actually are not simple. It is just poesy. You'll enjoy the CD twice. And It is not a personal opinion, it is Ernesto Sabato's.

This cd is very good.......2004-05-19

warning to all who saw the BMW flim "the follow" this song unicornio is not sung by Cecilia Noel who sings it in the movie it is sung by Silvio Rodriguez. Who does a good job but not as good as she does in the movie. So if you dont want to be disapointed do not buy this cd. but saying that, the cd is good and finding her version is really hard.

The Western World Of Dimitri Tiomkin.......2002-03-25

It is so sad when such a great composer,conductor is lost in history. Just watching the 74th academy awards tonight where they acknowledged and credited "Great" music from the movies, not one mentioned Dimitri Tiomkin. His works are timeless and are not made available to those of us who are devout followers. This album, I have not heard yet, but reading the titles of Dimitri's works are wonderful and I know I will love them all. Bring Dimitri Tiomkin back to life with his legacy of music. I want MORE.

Nice recording of spirited performances.......2001-08-08

This is a delightful recording of some of Tiomkins best known movie music. Laurie Johnson, a conductor whose name was new to me, has the orchestra and chorus performing with theatrical gusto that is entirely appropriate to the music. He has managed just the right degree of roughness, avoiding any overly polished quality that would have reduced this to elevator music. (Don't be misled by the conductor's first name, Laurie Johnson is a "he," an English composer-conducter born in London in 1927.) The vocal solo in "High Noon" is handled very nicely by Bob Saker, whose voice resembles that of Tex Ritter, who sang the song in the movie, more than that of Frankie Lane. My only complaint is a minor one: I would have liked to hear much more music from each of the six movies represented here. A 2-CD album would have been nice.

Early Digital Recording remains Unsurpassed.......2005-11-03

This CD of Bernard Herrmann's NORTH BY NORTHWEST remains one of the best digital presentations of this score. Conductor Laurie Johnson delivered a very remarkable and heartfelt early digital recording of this groundbreaking classic score. MURDER AT THE U.N. and THE AUCTION & THE AIRPORT deliver quintessential musical cues from this film. These are so memorable for anyone who has ever seen this film and loved it that you will savor these cuts. The real tour de force is MT. RUSHMORE/FINALE. The music and performance on this cut is extremely powerful and dynamic. It is truly exhilarating and moving and is Herrmann at his best in this genre or any genre for that matter. If you close your eyes you can relive NORTH BY NORTHWEST listening to this recording. The acoustics deliver a tonal quality that gives this recording that effect. It is quite amazing. I have never heard a recording of this score that has had that same effect. This is a very good recording and is absolutely essential if you like Bernard Herrmann's music as I do.

OK, so Copenhagen is not the Mecca of the opera world, still this delightful 20th century opera buffa is well worth a side trip. The music sparkles where it should, much brighter than you'd expect from the two "big" symphonies, but still Nielsen through and through. And the story, taken from Holberg (as in Grieg's "Holberg Suite"), is as serious under the hijinks as those about that barber who sang for Mozart and Rossini -- though the import is perhaps more psychological than political. It's an all-Danish production, so you can guess its the real thing, like Dvorak done by Czechs. I admit to being more a fan of Nielsen than of opera in general, but that said, this is my favorite opera.

As always, Lazaro Ros's voice is just divine. One cannot begin to imagine good music until you sit down and listen to him. His voice can soothe anything. His music is great. A must have!
