Colombian soap star-cum-singer Carlos Vives continues drawing from the colorful palette of vallenato with 2001's sunny, unfailingly upbeat, Grammy-winning Dejame Entrar. True to vallenato's rich folk tradition, accordion figures prominently, but the kaleidoscopic grocery list of instruments in use also includes electric guitar, flute, piano, and quite possibly a kitchen sink. Stylistically, son, merengue, and paseo rhythms are all checked. Vives's pleasant, almost giddy voice--most often concerned with expressions of love--infuses the material with a celebratory feel, and while his tentative foray into English language lyrics on "Carito" makes a strong case for sticking with Spanish, Vives nevertheless acquits himself well, particularly on the vivid, call-to-arms anthem "Papadió." This is electrified Colombian folk at its most electrifying. --Kim Hughes

5 out of 5 stars The Best One Ever!.......2004-09-19

I Loved his CD!! It's been a big hit since ''La Tierra del Olvido" I absolutely loved it!!! I would give it 10 Stars! I would recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars carlos vives.......2004-01-29

This music is very adictive. I can't stop listening to it. I have put the cd on my alarm clock and it is wonderful to wake up to.
Even if you are not a fan of latin music you should try Carlos Vives and you might become one.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2003-12-20

This cd is awesome. I like every song on it because they are all so good. I reccomend this cd even to people who don't speak spanish because you can dance to it.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting album-another aspect of Carlos Vives.......2003-03-06

Admittedly if I had reviewed this album a year ago when I first purchased it, it would not have scored so high in the ranking because I was not attracted to this music at all and as a result I neglected to listen to the album for a year. I recently played it again to see if my opinion had changed and believe me my reception was completely different. This is a great album and although it has typical Carlos Vives nuances the rhythms are very Caribbean and that of Carlos'modern vallenato. I would say this album is a mellower version of his previous production "El amor de mi tierra" which I think is a tremendous one no doubt. This one offers a variety of musical rhythms and I don't know how he managed it but the influence of many genres of music can be heard throughout the album, Afro beats, rock, son, cumbia all have been well blended into Carlos' unique modern vallenato style. In a nutshell, if you have some previous music from Carlos Vives and if you like afro-Caribbean rhythms this production will catch your attention. It's definitely for listeners and dancers of vallenato and for those who can appreciate his unique style. I am glad I gave this album a second chance.

5 out of 5 stars Carlos vives suena mejor que nunca.......2002-11-08

5 out of 5 stars Great CD and great lyrics.......2005-09-20

Finally, some music from Cuba that is not the "traditional" sound. This is a great CD as well as the Arsenal CD, I listen to it very often and don't get tired of it, I guess that happens when the lyric is good, well the music is not bad at all, it is very original, I could say this is an easy to listen CD it helps me get through the day and in many occasions gets me going in the morning. Another good point is that this young duo didn't have to kiss the government's butt in their lyrics in order to get their music out, different from Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanes which have had to do for so many years in order to be heard in the country, which I consider pitiful and disgraceful. In summary I give two thumbs up for "Buena Fe".

5 out of 5 stars its really good.Best lyrics it has awsome lyrics.......2004-09-20

This cd is extreamly good. The lyrics are so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Cuban music for this century!!!!!!!!.......2004-03-25

Buena Fe just brought us a new and fresh side of the Cuban music, to one so over saturated (of restless Salsa, Merengues and others, too competitive Latin rhythms) musical environment. Nice and well though lyrics like: Destino de la abeja or No juegues con mi soledad..., melodies with a different variety that goes from: Son, Ballad, to Pop-rock and more and finally two voices well mixed made out of these guys a really good choice, making a difference among the rest; The string instruments give a totally nice and smooth sound to the songs along with the voices and the musical arrangements. I had the chance to see a couple of clip out of this CD and the quality is good too.
DEJAME ENTRAR is a well done compilation of themes that allow us to see, there is still good music and will be, far away of nonsense lyrics and worst, we usually got in those rhythms.

Now I'm one of their followers and I do enjoy listening to them and play them to my friends. If you wanna try something cool, yet danceable and nice, go try this disc, you won't regret it. They got another CD: ARSENAL 2003, go for it!!!!, is the the same quality than the first one.

5 out of 5 stars UNIQUE, FRESH AND 100% CUBAN.......2003-10-22

Buena Fe, founded in Guantanamo, in November, 1999, is one of the greatest cultural projects in Cuba, being awarded the Best Novel Band in CUBADISCO, the International Fair of Music held every May, in Havana, Cuba. They won that award thanks to the release of their first CD "Dejame Entrar" (Let me in), a mixture of many international rythmns, such as pop, guaracha, trova, rock 'n' roll, ballad, etc, which helped as instruments for the most distinguished characterist of the band: the lyrics. Greatly written, thoughtfully composed and interpreted, this CD is one of the best albums in the history of Cuban music. Israel Rojas Fiel(composer, singer and band leader) proves there is more beyond words and ideas: there is feeling. Joel Martinez Rodriguez (guitar player and singer) plays as old trova players used to, now adding the comtemporary styles, making incomparable the sound of Buena Fe. From "Dejame Entrar", the first track, to "Fuego y Balacera", the 12th and last song in the album, Buena Fe enchants, convinces and makes people believe in talent and sincerity. You will never regret buying this CD. I LISTEN TO IT EVERY DAY!!

5 out of 5 stars A breath of Fresh Air.......2003-09-27

What can I say? This CD has totally fascinated me. We needed a breath of fresh air a long time ago in trova music, and this duet of cuban guys have produced a record that invites us to reflect and dream from beginning to end, with contagious rythms and a mix of flavors and themes that go from political to social and cultural. Believe me, this cd is worth every penny, so go for it! You will not be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars Another great album from "El Principe" de la bachata.......2002-10-01

This is another great production from Frank Reyes who has virtually produced flawless albums since "Vine a decirte adios". He has a very soft voice and a romantic tone which makes for a powerful combination when it comes to bachata. Honestly when I bought the album I did know what to expect. I had only heard the first song "Nada de nada" and I liked it but little did I know that the whole album was going to be so precious and sentimental. As a person he's unique and so is his talent. This album "Dejame entrar " is very complete. It has great musical arrangements, catchy bachata rhythms, a great selection of songs and as usual deep sentimental lyrics. You can't go wrong this album. It's definitely one of Frank Reyes' best recordings (but that's what I said after every album he produced in the past three years) and definitely is one of the top ten in 2002. I highly recommend this album if you are a fan of romantic bachata. Also I proudly suggest some other great productions thus far this year: "Confesiones" (Monchy & Alexandra), "Derroche de Amor" (Raulin Rodriguez), Camino sin regreso (Junior & Jorge) & "No es casualidad" (Yoskar Sarante).

    1 out of 5 stars good singer.......2003-09-23

Ley alejandro is a great singer but not such a nice person. I know him personally. he dated my best friend for almost two years and made her life miserable. He has alot of talent but will do whatever it takes to succeed no matter who he hurts. He is jealous, compulsive and lies very much he is also unfaithful.

It is Excelent, I love his songs , and I love his others Cd, Sentir Amor is great.
Ley keep the good work that you are doing, and your are very good looking.

4 out of 5 stars Better than his last.......1999-04-14

Ley has one of the most romantic voices in salsa. Next to el Principe ofcourse Luis Enrique. His voice is so versitile. He can sing it low and sultry yet hit those high notes. Songs 1,3,4, and 10 are the best. Best for dancing salsa. Song #4 "Romantico" is combined with Reggae which gives it a hell of an arrangement to get your hips a movin'. These songs should be played in clubs. A must for the salsero. "pick it up today. Tino Chicago
