Many fine singers have come close, but Javier Solis is still regarded by many as the best bolero
ranchera singer Mexico has ever produced. Since his death in 1966, there have been dozens of hit compilations. Luckily, this collection contains most of Solis's biggest hits: "Payaso," "Cenizas," "Sombras," "Media Vuelta," "Lloraras, Lloraras," and "Si Dios Me Quita la Vida." And while Solis got most of the credit, it's important to remember he worked with topflight producers, studio musicians, and, most critical of all, excellent song material from Rafael Ramirez ("Lloraras, Lloraras"), Luis Demetrio ("Si Dios Me Quita la Vida"), and Jose Alfredo Jimenez ("Media Vuelta"). But the combined power of vivid tearjerker songs enveloped in gorgeous mariachi arrangements is nothing without Solis's exquisite vocals and tough but compassionate stance. --

Customer Reviews:
This guy's voice is incredible.......2005-09-16
I know exactly what Mr. Sandoval is saying, all this Banda music just embarrases me. (Banda music for those of you that don't know it's a bunch of guys wearing a texan hat wearing the same kind of clothes with a bunch of strings on their shoulders, i guess to keep the flies off or something and it's like 20 guys it seems, lol when they can just take out a bunch of guys and create all those sounds with a synthesizer. They do a lil hop at the same time while they play and the singer sounds as if someone was choking him as he sang, lol Just look for these so called artists names...Montez de Durango or Banda Limon, and compare them with great mexican singers like Javier Solis, Pepe Aguilar or Alejandro Fernandez and you'll know what i'm talking about. When I tell friends that i don't like banda music they take it personal and they say that is because i've been in the USA for too long. I just tell them that when i was in Mexico these Banda groups didn't even exist not even that style of music existed, it all started happening on the 90's with their so called "quebraditas" which i think it would mean something like 'breakers',lol Any how getting back to the subject, I grew up as a kid in a small town in Jalisco Mexico called Autlan de Navarro during the 80's, it's about 2 or 3 hours south of Guadalajara. When I hear Javier Solis' music it takes me back there to that nice beautiful town, when my mom listened to it as she cleaned up the house or if we had a birthdate party. It would be pretty hard to top Javier Solis' voice I think and so far I don't know of anyone that has matched it.
La Historia de Javier Solis.......2005-09-08
Wonderful music and great artist!!! I couldn't stop listening to it. I loved 'Mi Viejo San Juan'!! I purchased it for my mom who is born in Puerto Rico and when she listened to it I could tell that it took her back to her native land as she sang along with Solis. So glad that I found and purchased it! I had the opportunity to listen to it (via internet) and knew that it was what I was looking for. My family also loved it and wondered where I had found it.
Javier is immortal!.......2004-12-17
Javier is, without a doubt, the greatest master of the bolero ranchero and Vicente Fernandez is a close second. There is nothing more to ask of him as a singer. Unfortunately, Columbia did not invest much money into his recordings until his last couple of albums....there is a huge difference in recording & musical quality between his unfinished tribute to Rafael Hernandez & the otherwise great album Payaso.
But, I'll tell you what would be fantastic....if Mexico City's incredible folk ensemble, Orquesta de la Ciudad, would record new arrangements for this music and edit in Javier's voice into the melody line....I would be willing to pay....$100 for it.
why can't there be singers like this in our present day?.......2004-11-26
simply the best singer in mexico's history, if you like luis miguel's latest cd with vargas backing him up, do your homework and get everything there is of javier solis, you won't regret it, unless you like bad music like banda el retardo, or whatever, but definately brilliant, i dunno if it's his "media voz" or his unique style of interpretation of the songs, this is obviously the tear jerker, and belive me it's not the onions in your menudo. I mean this guy was one of frank sinatras favorites, that should tell you alot, oh yea, also, he recorded with the ny symphony for his "javier en NY" cd, which you should also get btw. he combined the best of what pedro infante had, and blended it with his own unique style which is of javier solis, there will never be another javier in history, but he did leave alot of homework for us musicians and vocalists
It's the best cd anyone can have.......2003-08-05
This cd of javier solis has it all! It has some of the most popular songs anyone can have. It is simply the greatest. Even though this popular artist passed away his songs continue to embark the hearts of many people. I encourage anyone to buy this great cd
