Amazing voice from amazing young man........2007-06-23

Wow. What an amazing, powerful and beautiful voice from someone so relatively young, at only 15 years old. These songs are fabulous in their own right but as Michael has recorded them, they sound even better. His voice is so rich and adds a lot of depth to these songs. I wrote a review on his first CD also. He sounded awesome on that CD, as a young boy of 13 years old, and he has maintained that amazing voice on this CD 2 years later as well, as a 15 year old prodigy, even as his voice has matured and deepened. Amazing. Highly recommended. Worth every penny of the purchase price.

Wow! Michael you've done it again and with a new lovely deep voice. I purchased your Dreamland CD a few months ago, and didn't honestly think the great track Il Mondo could be topped by any other recording you would make in the future....I was WRONG!
Volare is simply magic and takes me to places I haven't yet been and would love to go. You need not have any worries young man that your now adult baritone isn't on a par with the powerful early treble voice...because it IS.
I love every song on this Musica E' La Vita album. You Michael possess a rich romantic and beautiful voice, and I for one sincerely hope to hear a lot more from it in the future.

His performance of "Una Furtiva Lagrima" almost had my wife in tears. It's that good. Who ever heard of a 15 year old singing it? In some ways it is as good as the old 1911 recording of Caruso singing the same song. Michael "gets it" . . .
Volare is finally back, and the performance is mature.
Anna Maria is another song that will have your wife, or girlfriend, in tears {which is worth every cent you'll pay for this recording.
Ragazze is just plain fun.
The rest of the album is first class.

So when's the video going to be released, Michael?

A Promise Fulfilled Triumphantly!

"Musica È la Vita" (Music Is Life), the new album by Michael Junior is a marvel to hear. After two years, the now 15-year-old Belgian singer has finally released his second full album. The wait was long, agonizing for his fans, but the wait was worth it! Wow! What a triumph! Simply beautiful. The voice is no longer a boyish "soprano", but now a deep, rich baritone capable of a broad range of subtle variations to enrich every song he sings.

This set of 12 songs consists of mostly Italian pop classics that will be familiar to many listeners. There are, however, two songs newly written for Michael, "Anna Maria" and the "La Vita". These two songs were written for Michael by his guitar and voice teacher, Freddie Bierset. (For those who are fans of Michael's beautiful "Dreamland" video as seen on PBS, Freddie is the cute little "old" mandolin player at the beginning of "Who'll Come with Me".) The songs are rich and varied. Soft, lilting rhythms are followed by passionate orchestrations, then soft quiet moments. They work together beautifully. The arrangements are brilliant and varied . Again, the Golden Symphonic Orchestra led by Andre Walschaerts accompanies Michael (but curiously uncredited.) The melodies are exquisite. You will be unable to keep from singing (or humming) along as Michael sings this beautiful music. The Italian language is pronounced crisply, so articulately it's hard to believe this is not Michael's first language -- his native language is Dutch.

Above all else is the voice. What a voice this young man has! You will listen unable to believe this is just a boy of 15. Such a rich, warm, and by turns, a passionate and playful voice. The way he can modulate his voice, make it soar, or make it soothing and soft is spectacular. The ladies will be swooning to be sure! (Yes, Michael is still as cute as a bug's ear! He's younger-looking than his 15 years. Michael hates this fact right now, but someday he will look back on it with a smile.)

Some of this album was recorded for Video in Genk, Belgium last September. The remainder of the album is supposed to be filmed on location in Italy soon to become Michael's second video concert. Hopefully, PBS will be buying it and showing it in their Fall pledge drives. I for one will pledge.

The Songs:

"Volare" You have heard this song sung often before, but you will never hear it sung better. A rich, jazzy piano, sparkling rhythm, and Michael's sophisticated delivery make it the best version I have ever heard. "Ciao Ciao Bambina" has a wonderful, gentle "walking rhythm" that will have you swaying as you sing along. Mario Lanza`s "Come Prima" is sung with a very original and pleasing rhythm that makes the song new all over again. "La Bambola", "Ragazze", and "Azurro" are great fun. If they were in a Broadway show they'd be called "Show Stoppers". So much rhythm and joyful energy that you want to get up and dance! "Roberta" (chosen by Michael himself because it is his mother's favorite) is soft and sweet. "La Vita" and "Anna Maria" are exciting, brand new songs. "Non Ho L`Eta" the song of a boy lamenting the fact that he is "Not Old Enough for Love". "Che Sara" soft guitars and gentle rhythms. The famous "Una Furtiva Lagrima" almost drips with the agony of lost love. How does one so young evoke so many different, authentic emotions in his music? I don't know. I am, however, convinced that Michael Junior (Michael Verschuere) is one of the most talented young singers, perhaps ever. I think "Musica È la Vita" proves it. He deserves world-wide fame. Competition out there is stiff, but Michael will prevail. His talent is simply too great to fail. But his careful management, the insistence on quality over quantity, will pay off in the end. (That said, I hope it isn't two years before album number three!)

Buy this album! Buy it today. You will play it again and again, enjoying it all the more with each new listening. It is a magnificent achievement, a promise fulfilled beautifully. A triumph!

Musica E La Vita ( Music is life!) is decidedly more contemporary, pop Italian over the smashing Dreamland album.

Michael Jr. has matured (in many more ways than one). His "new" voice resonates more deeply and richly, as a baritone should.

The songs are hugely romantic, smooth and mellow with just the right amount of rhythm to get yourself off onto the dance floor and glide across with the graciousness of "Rico Suave", or Fred Astaire or Gene Kelley.
It promises to delight the ear, heart, mind, and soul.

This is another masterpiece for the teenage Belgian prince! Gee, I could have sworn he was Italian!

I just wish I could understand the language!

Molto benne! Tanto bello!

Essential edition for opera lovers.......2005-02-01

This set gives you the opportunity to follow the entire recording career of one of the greatest singers in Operatic History. Enrico Caruso was the first superstar of the 20th century -- and this without the benefit of mass media. His person and his records were his greatest publicity.

The set begins with Caruso's Italian made recordings. They show a great raw talent. The artistry is lacking with many sobs, over acting and mistaken cues. The 1902 and 1903 clearly show a tenor with a lot to learn. But learn it he did. His 1904 sessions show a mature artist on par with any heard since. His voice matures before your very ears and by 1910, you wonder if you will ever listen to any other tenor the same way again.

The engineering used for this set is wonderful. There is no attempt at all to use the soundstream process of computer sound enhancement as heard on the RCA issued sets. These are near perfect mint conditioned discs copied by engineer extraordinary Ward Marston. They sound like natural 78s, they way Caruso himself must have heard the playbacks at the (RCA) Victor studios.

Also included are outtakes and extra takes. There is a "Celeste Aida" from 1908, complete with a broken high note, previously released by RCA in a 1973 set commemorating the tenor's centenary birthday. But there are new treasures here as well, including extra takes of two of Caruso's greatest recordings, the Italian song "L'Alba separa dalla l'uce ombra" and an aria from Rubinestine's Nerone. Listening to them, one wonders what Caruso could have possible thought inadquate in those long lost altenative takes.

Finally, there is the simple joy of hearing so many things so well sung. Caruso was the pinnacle of the tenor art. He can be compared to no other single tenor since ... he has the brilliant ring of Bjorling, the passion of Gigli, the beauty of Gedda, the youthful enthusiasm of Lanza, the warm tonal quality of Tucker, the pure strength of Corelli, the charasma of Pavarotti and the artestry of Domingo.

Whether you are an opera fan, a voice fan or just a music lover. This set is worth every penny.

You'll Love This.......2002-01-19

Production values are awful, and sound quality is pretty bad. For all the world, it sounds like a silent film piano player with a guy singing...but I tell you, it's just about the greatest thing you've ever heard.

Around the third time I listened to this, I actually began to like the flaws; they became endearing. Reminds me of those 1/4 inch thick Carusso records I started out with, lo these many moons ago. Perfection...? Hell, it's for sure nothing here is flawless. It's just, well...flawless. Giuseppe at his youthful, incomparable best. Strong buy.

The greatest tenor after Caruso at his best.......1999-04-16

This record shows Di Stefano was in his prime at the age of 23 in 1944. Incomparable beauty of timbre, clarity of diction, sureness of interpretation, and amazing technical feats reminiscent of 19th century bel canto tenors. This recording should finally assure Di Stefano of his long deserved place as one of the top 5 tenors of the century.

A priceless musical document.......1999-01-14

This is not simply a collector's item. These imperfect recordings, made by an unknown POW in a war camp, reveal di Stefano's stunning natural talent perhaps even more completely than his more polished later singing. His boyish voice here is glowing, his interpretations fresh and fearless. You simply have to hear his "Mi par d'udir ancora" (better known as "Je crois entendre encore") on this recording, the most compelling account of this aria I've ever heard. He sings it in a full voice, with measured sprinklings of mezza voce, while most tenors just croon this aria in a pitiful falsetto. For me di Stefano, even at his most inexperienced, is the ultimate tenor benchmark.

This is what the tenor voice is all about, there has never been a voice like this. Hear this great tenor at his the very beginning of his career. Listen to the beauty that the human voice can produce. Di Stefano puts everthing into every song/aria on this recording. The quality of sound on this disc may not be great( 2 Stars), but the performance is outstanding. If you are an opera fan, and particularly fond of tenors, this recording is a must.

Interesting, obscure CD.......2003-05-12

If you've always wondered what the difference is between a rebec and a viol, or a cornett and a sackbut, this is the CD set for you. The two CDs are well-paced with solo examples of each instrument and lots of "real" music--repertoire from the correct periods, played very musically by musicians of Musica Reservata. Martin Bookspan's NPR voice is perfect for this kind of narration, too. [The price] is a bit steep, but this is a unique set for anybody seriously interested in early music.

By and Large -- Terrific.......2005-04-26

There is a touch of World War I boosterism and commercialism evident during this period. But the negative effect is minimal.

This finale of the four volume Pearl set is every bit as thorough as the prior three. Again, the remastering shows thoughtful trade-off between reducing noise from the 78 rpm masters, and preserving the man's amazing voice.

A must for opera lovers.

The Most Beautiful Things Have a Little Strangeness in Them.......2004-08-01

This album reached out and grabbed me when I first heard sound samples of it, and it has only grown on me since I purchased it. The combination of harp and guitar is very unusual, the guitar providing a powerful underpinning while the harp rides on top almost sounding like a human voice. In fact, there are instrumental versions of two of the songs, "Il Mio Cocente Ardore" and "Occhi, Occhi Miei Cari," where the harp takes the vocal part very effectively.

The original versions of these pieces are among my favorites on the disc. "Il Mio" is sung by Sarah Pillow all in her lower register, until she reaches up for passion one time at the end. "Occhi, Occhi" build to a climax four times with an engaging melody and exciting vocal effects.

A couple of other tracks are just as good, especially those with both sopranos singing, which are just ravishing. I didn't like a lot of the album at first because some tunes weren't especially pretty or because I didn't "get" them. I have come to like a few; others I have not, but the album overall is definitely worth having. Of the albums by this composer that I have checked out, this is the best.

My wife and I ware Michael Jr.'s fan since listened his 1st album. I bought his recent one, Musica E la Vita. I am deeply sad. He changed voice as a teen. He is no longer as "Michael Jr." sadly speaking. So long.

Michael has a bright future.......2003-05-21

I listened to this CD and once I got used to Michael's new baritone voice, I heard the same heart and soul as on his first CD. The only difference is that Michael has matured a lot. I look forward to his next CD when he blooms even more. Michael sings with feeling and honesty. His style is from another earlier era when real singing was king and it is so refreshing to hear once again, in a young person's voice, that same genre.

i bought his CD at a Helmut Lotti concert where Michael first got his start. They are friends and it is a wonderful story how they got together. Michael is a star that is rising fast but will not burn out. He is a sweat young man. I love him!

Michael Junior's latest cd.......2002-04-08

I fell in love with Michael Junior'smusic the first time i saw him on KPBS while singing "Il Mondo". Now I fell in love with his music on "Musica E La Vita". Hopefully he continues to sing and make more albums. My only wish is for him to perform in san diego, California. I alsowish to meet him.
