Enrique Iglesias returns to the language that first made him an international superstar on Quizás, his fourth Spanish-language album and sixth studio release overall. The album's nine new tracks are sure to induce plenty of swooning, with Iglesias's modest voice wringing pure pop emotion out of every last note. Songs such as "Tres Palabras," "Para Que la Vida," and "Mentiroso" (the album's first single, also featured in a mariachi version) are unashamedly romantic, and Iglesias works the heartbreak angle to good effect. He picks up the pace on "La Chica de Ayer," "Marta," and "Pienso en Tí," one of the album's best tracks, which veers effortlessly between tempos. The touching title track finds Iglesias musing on the reasons he and his superstar father have drifted apart. It's an unexpectedly vulnerable moment. --Joey Guerra

Soundtracks are a mixed bag at best. Some are little more than an assortment of pieces, but others hang together effectively on their own, like this one. The idea of Chinese music--both popular and operatic--juxtaposed with the sounds of Nat King Cole performing Latin music might seem bizarre, but it works beautifully, sustaining a lush, romantic mood created both by the strings and the '40s Chinese music, itself a tinkling Hollywood pastiche. But as atmospheric as all this is, one track stands out above the others: "Blue," actually a version of the classic "St. James' Infirmary," takes on another dimension in Chinese hands. While familiar but completely alien at the same time, the slithering Asian sonorities mesh perfectly with the African-American form to create something evocative but with a sadness that goes beyond blues. The movie is of a time and place; the soundtrack is of a mood and yearning. Listen at night, with someone you love close by. --Chris Nickson

4 out of 5 stars Awsome Instrumental Music.......2007-03-09

The soundtrack is really good; I didn't like some of the songs (the Chinese ones) but there are only 3 in the whole CD. The instrumental music is awesome making the soundtrack an average good.

4 out of 5 stars The Bing Crosby songs are very good but...........2006-07-17

In my opinion it`s the Bing Crosby-songs that makes this album worth buying, but these songs can be bought on compilations. The rest of the music is for people with special interest for backgroundmusic in films.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING! Hauntingly beautiful..........2006-05-09

So beautiful and emotional, it makes you want to cry! The score for the film and the collection of music together is absolutely breathtaking....

5 out of 5 stars A great soundtrack for a lover of WKW films.......2006-03-22

I loved the film, so I love the soundtrack, which brings back memories of the film. WKW uses period music to evoke the emotions and feel of the time period of the film.

5 out of 5 stars as gorgeous as the film!.......2006-02-11

Film soundtracks are often disappointing---there are songs from the movie that are not on the CD, songs on the CD that were not in the film, different versions of songs on the CD than in the film, etc.

Happily, this soundtrack is absolutely faithful to the film, and it is masterfully interwoven with dialogue excerpts from the film which complement and build on the music instead of being obtrusive. I don't understand a word of Chinese but still enjoyed listening to the actors' voices, and also liked the bits of traditional Chinese music as well. There are some tracks that I don't remember from the film but they are not throw-away filler in any way, just beautiful extras in the same vein.

5 out of 5 stars Enrique's best CD/Album To Date!!.......2005-05-06

I am one of Enrique's most loyal, if not the most, loyal fan. I enjoy all of his music, the good and the bad. But "Quizas" is a pleasure trove from beginning to end. From "Tres Palabras" to "No Apagues la Luz", this CD rocks! Enrique wears his heart on his sleeve on every track, even the uptempo ones. I enjoy listening to all different styles of singing, and in spanish, it is generally Luis Miquel, Mark Anthony, and Enrique. And Enrique is my favorite because of his raw emotion. You can not, even if you are ice cold, listen to this CD and not be moved! It is riddled with emotion. Enrique himself says that the CD is his best work to date on the enclosed DVD, and it is very true. The DVD is a compilation of his music videos (spanish) with an interview with Enrique. The DVD is as beautiful as the CD. And the CD is as beautiful as Enrique himself (and that saying a lot!), inside and out. No matter what your culture(s) is/are, you will love this CD, get it today! Take my word for it; you won't regret it!

First,I wanna say that I don't know Spanish at all,Even the title"quizas".A friend of mine told me it meant"Maybe",but I'm not sure. Most of Enrique's English songs are Dance, and I don't like them very much, but this album gives me a brand new Enrique--Emotional n' Romatic.I don't know why,but many Chinese version has less songs than other versions. This CD only has 9 songs in China,so I bought the U.S. version. You know it's not easy to find an import CD in China, but I've got it!Although it doesn't include the Chinese translation which Chinese version alway has.I just don't wanna miss any track in this wonderful CD.I love all songs in this CD,especially "Tres Palabras"&"Quizas"
And because of Enrique,I start to learn Spanish!

Informed by a vintage Hollywood production sheen and flashback-fueled, identity-questioning melodramatics worthy of Hitchcock, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's sexually-charged film was quickly hailed as a mature masterpiece. The film's classic Hollywood conceits are deep-rooted, and Iberian composer Alberto Iglesias reinforces the film's often retro mood via a brooding, classically oriented score with an ear towards history. It may briefly excerpt Rossini's "Kyrie" to haunting effect, but the touchstone here is the Bernard Herrmann of Hitchcock's prime, with an emphasis on their epochal Vertigo and especially the tense, dark strings of Psycho (which "Escena Familiar" and "Cine Olimpo" echo with haunting grace). But while Iglesias capably evokes the color and spirit of those iconic touchstones, he crucially does it without sacrificing his own identity. Evocations of Spanish culture come mostly via vintage performances of "Quiza, Quiza, Quiza," "Cuoro Matta" and others, but on the expansive "Puerta Finale" the composer skillfully interweaves his Herrmann influences with touches of mournful jazz, flamenco and "Kyrie"'s choral echoes, creating a compelling, oft chilling post-modern new whole. -- Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Even better than the film.......2004-11-21

Alberto Iglesias did it again, a wonderful soundtrack!

His last collaboration with Pedro Almodovar, "Talk to her", is one of the best scores I've heard in recent years. In that movie, the scenes of the country villa, accompanying with the touching song of "Cucurrucucu Paloma" by Caetano Veloso, easily became one of the most beautiful five minuets I ever had in a theatre.

Before I went to see "Bad education", I can't help wondering, Could I have another enjoyable moment like "Cucurrucucu Paloma"? Luckily, I did have one, sort of. The Spanish rendition of "Moon River" is such a beautiful and haunting piece. But unluckily, the way the music delivered in the film is so disturbing. It started as a beautiful and innocent singing by a boy standing by the river while ended up with an innuendo of the ugly fact of sexual violations. However, if you didn't see the movie, the "moon river" will be a pure pleasant enjoyment.

Compared to the slightly weak movie, the music itself is powerful and flawless. From the beginning to the end, it doesn't have a single dull moment. In a word, buy this awesome CD!

5 out of 5 stars The Starving Crocodiles... .......2004-11-17

The Starving Crocodiles

Almodovar's latest movie is undoubtedly his best, and a very inventive film-noir that absorbs and electrifies you from the very beginning. Alberto Iglesias' score serves "as a cradle where the movie rests" as the auteur himself said.

La Mala Educacion (Bad Education) is one of -if not- the best soundtrack composed this year, and its style is absolutely magnificent. Following the film-noir trend, Iglesias' score is a mixture of tunes a la Herrman ("Juan y el Sr. Berenguer", "Por mi grandisima culpa", "Escena Familiar"), poignant waltzes ("Foulard en seda", "La Carta", "Valsetto"), and vocalized cues that reflect the theme of the movie, and illustrate it fittingly ("Kyrie", "La piscina", "El cine como espejo"). "Cine Olympo", an exquisite theme for the movie-within-the-movie manifests itself disguisedly many times, in variations, as Iglesias' has done in previous scores where a parallel story is narrated - The Flower of my Secret, Live Flesh, Talk to Her, and All About my Mother- however the best track in the score is the "Overture". Other superb tracks are "Carta del mas alla", "Plato", and "Adagietto"... melodies that crave lust, but "Puerta Final" -the MAIN theme- is absolutely grand; probably the best potpourri of songs written in the last decade, that will grab you by the horns from the moment it opens to the last saxophone refrain, in an orgasm of eight minutes that you will want to experience over and over again.

The soundtrack also consists of key songs that in one way or another relate to the main characters and the story: "Maniqui Parisien", "Cuore Matto", "Moon River" (a very avant-garde arrangement), and "Jardinero".

Alberto Iglesias has composed a score so dark, rich, hunting, powerful, and mysterious... that proves to be irresistible.

Experience the Bad Education!!!

5 out of 5 stars Lovin' this CD!.......2003-07-19

Even if you only became an Enrique fan after hearing his English stuff and you are not familiar with his earlier albums, you are still going to love his latest cd. Although I am not fluent in spanish I bought this cd after seeing the video for "Para que la Vida" and I was not disappointed. I love the changing tempo of "pienso en ti" and the very 'dance-able' beat of "la chica de ayer". Marta is my favourite on this cd.
The ballads are smooth, the dance songs are pulsing and Enrique's vocals are fabulous, he sounds even better in spanish than in English. This is one of the best albums I've bought this year. If you're an Enrique fan (regardless of your native tongue)BUY IT!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of his best Cd's Ever!.......2003-01-09

Quizás is one of Enrique's best CDs. He wrote most of the songs, and there are a lot of love songs in it. Beautiful songs! My favorite songs from that Cd are; Tres Palabras, Pienso en Ti, Quizás, Mentiroso, and La Chica de Ayer. All the songs are really good, but those are the most I like. I saw him in concert last year and he's a great performer and he's a great composer also!

3 out of 5 stars Not that much POP.......2002-10-23

Honestly I thought I was going to get a spanish version of an english album, This is not the case. This album most resembles the last spanish album cosas de la vida. It is full of slooooooow ballads, no pop songs. The only pop song is the spanish version of turn off the lights. The only good thing and the reason it gets 3 stars and not 2 is because it has a dvd. This dvd has 4 videos from all hi albums past. Experienza religiosa, no llores por me, nunca te olvidare and bailamos and a little review and pictures of him in engliash and spanish. If you wanna see the videos get this otherwise forget it.

5 out of 5 stars Finally back to Spanish!.......2002-10-22

Finally, after four years (since his 1998 work "Cosas del Amor"), Enrique Iglesias is back with "Quizás", a all-Spanish album, and it was worth the wait. "Quizás" is a great album that has a variety of songs on them; from the ballads that he is known for (Tres Palabras, Para Qué La Vida, Mentiroso, etc.) to more Latin pop based (La Chica de Ayer, Mamacita), "Quizás" has a variety of good songs. Also included in the CD is a song that seems to blend smoothly from a ballad to a Latin pop back to a ballad, "Pienso En Tí", which is a great song. The first single, "Mentiroso" is also offered in a Marachi version, as is "No Apagues La Luz", which is from his 2001 English album, "Escape". Also included in this Bonus Edition is a DVD which gives us a good, but a bit too quick, biography of Enrique, and four music videos (one from each of his first three Spanish albums, and his hit Bailamos). Not bad, considering at most places, the two discs are sold for less than "$" together. Even if Enrique can't keep his English career going, his Spanish one looks bright as ever.

    5 out of 5 stars For a major mood-lifter.......2002-10-13

First, I'll admit, this is not grammy-winning material. And yet, I am obsessed with this CD. Just by listening to this album, (especially "No Apagues la Luz"), a horrible day will be completely transformed. I love this CD!
I am especially a fan of Enrique's fast songs, so the CD is a little heavy on the ballads, but they aren't bad as ballads go. My favorite songs are "No apagues la luz" "Pienso en ti" and "La chica de ayer".
I didn't enjoy the DVD that much because it doesn't include any of his recent videos! I was hoping for a video of "No apagues la luz", but it wasn't on there. But considering that I didn't pay any extra for the DVD, I shouldn't be one to complain.
Ever woman on earth should own this CD!

5 out of 5 stars An interesting complement to the 1st CD.......2003-03-16

I acquired the Mack and Mabel CD with Caroline in the cast 2 years ago. I was immediately smitten by the singer belting "Time Heals Everything". ... Two months ago, a friend suggested I listen to "What I did For Love". I instantly liked the 1st CD. And decided to acquire her second CD. Well, the collection is interesting. Similar with the 1st Cd, it is also diverse. However, what is unique with the CD is that it offers less drama and more FUN. ... Aquarius is very interesting. Perhaps and perhaps and What Kind of Fool have instant "grab". However for me, the most cherished songs are "If You Love Me"; "I Can Cook Too", "Big Spender", and "Kissing You. I do hope she would include in her upcoming recordings more Sondheim songs, and "As if We Never Said Goodbye".

5 out of 5 stars Another gem from Caroline...........2002-09-28

Caroline's first solo CD 'What I Did for Love' has been one of my favourites for quite a while, so I was eager to get my hands on a copy of her second solo recording. Featuring songs taken from her one woman show 'From Stage To Screen', this CD is a compilation of songs from various films and musicals. I must admit when I first heard this CD I was a little disappointed. It didn't have the initial 'grab' of her fist solo CD. But slowly this CD has really grown on me. With an interesting choice of numbers (including a version of Abba's 'Dancing Queen'), Caroline's wide vocal range once again shines as she pours raw emotion into her voice. It's amazing to hear how easily Caroline slips from the musical jollity of 'I Can Cook Too' and 'Look What Happened To Mabel' to more comtempary hits such as 'Dancing Queen' and 'What Kind Of Fool'. This is a must have CD for all Caroline fans, and if you love wonderful voices that stir the senses and tingle the spine, be sure to give this a listen. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    5 out of 5 stars A must!.......2001-09-02

If I could give the CD 4 and a half stars I would, because What Kind of Fool and Dancing Queen need to be categorised into the "what were you thinking?" file. The rest is wonderful, bar People which pales in comparison to the original but a great version nonetheless.

Mein Herr is amazing, easily the best track, Look What Happened to Mabel coming a very close second (I saw Caroline perform this song in Mack & Mabel and the standard was exactly the same, fantastic).

In my opinion Caroline's best with the belters which is why those two songs and also Big Spender stand out, very saucy! This CD comes very highly recommended for anyone into musical theatre and such, Caroline is fabulous.

4 out of 5 stars Caroline is at it again!!!!.......2001-06-18

Being a huge fan of her first cd "what I did for love" I thought that this would be better, in some ways it is, and in some ways its not. Caroline really reaches out in her selections on this CD, in ways that is good and in ways its bad.

    1. Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps: this is a cute song not very memorable though

    2. What Kind of Fool: again cute not very memorable

    3. If you Love Me: done very nicley

    4. Look What Happened to Mabel: I LOVE this for some reason, i find myself listening again & again.

5.People: not as good as Babs, but good none the less

6.Buenous Aires: One of the beter songs on the recording, I can so see her playing Evita after listening to this.
