Enrique Iglesias returns to the language that first made him an international superstar on Quizás, his fourth Spanish-language album and sixth studio release overall. The album's nine new tracks are sure to induce plenty of swooning, with Iglesias's modest voice wringing pure pop emotion out of every last note. Songs such as "Tres Palabras," "Para Que la Vida," and "Mentiroso" (the album's first single, also featured in a mariachi version) are unashamedly romantic, and Iglesias works the heartbreak angle to good effect. He picks up the pace on "La Chica de Ayer," "Marta," and "Pienso en Tí," one of the album's best tracks, which veers effortlessly between tempos. The touching title track finds Iglesias musing on the reasons he and his superstar father have drifted apart. It's an unexpectedly vulnerable moment. --Joey Guerra

Soundtracks are a mixed bag at best. Some are little more than an assortment of pieces, but others hang together effectively on their own, like this one. The idea of Chinese music--both popular and operatic--juxtaposed with the sounds of Nat King Cole performing Latin music might seem bizarre, but it works beautifully, sustaining a lush, romantic mood created both by the strings and the '40s Chinese music, itself a tinkling Hollywood pastiche. But as atmospheric as all this is, one track stands out above the others: "Blue," actually a version of the classic "St. James' Infirmary," takes on another dimension in Chinese hands. While familiar but completely alien at the same time, the slithering Asian sonorities mesh perfectly with the African-American form to create something evocative but with a sadness that goes beyond blues. The movie is of a time and place; the soundtrack is of a mood and yearning. Listen at night, with someone you love close by. --Chris NicksonCustomer Reviews:

A great soundtrack for a lover of WKW films.......2006-03-22
as gorgeous as the film!.......2006-02-11
Happily, this soundtrack is absolutely faithful to the film, and it is masterfully interwoven with dialogue excerpts from the film which complement and build on the music instead of being obtrusive. I don't understand a word of Chinese but still enjoyed listening to the actors' voices, and also liked the bits of traditional Chinese music as well. There are some tracks that I don't remember from the film but they are not throw-away filler in any way, just beautiful extras in the same vein.

Informed by a vintage Hollywood production sheen and flashback-fueled, identity-questioning melodramatics worthy of Hitchcock, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's sexually-charged film was quickly hailed as a mature masterpiece. The film's classic Hollywood conceits are deep-rooted, and Iberian composer Alberto Iglesias reinforces the film's often retro mood via a brooding, classically oriented score with an ear towards history. It may briefly excerpt Rossini's "Kyrie" to haunting effect, but the touchstone here is the Bernard Herrmann of Hitchcock's prime, with an emphasis on their epochal Vertigo and especially the tense, dark strings of Psycho (which "Escena Familiar" and "Cine Olimpo" echo with haunting grace). But while Iglesias capably evokes the color and spirit of those iconic touchstones, he crucially does it without sacrificing his own identity. Evocations of Spanish culture come mostly via vintage performances of "Quiza, Quiza, Quiza," "Cuoro Matta" and others, but on the expansive "Puerta Finale" the composer skillfully interweaves his Herrmann influences with touches of mournful jazz, flamenco and "Kyrie"'s choral echoes, creating a compelling, oft chilling post-modern new whole. -- Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Even better than the film.......2004-11-21
His last collaboration with Pedro Almodovar, "Talk to her", is one of the best scores I've heard in recent years. In that movie, the scenes of the country villa, accompanying with the touching song of "Cucurrucucu Paloma" by Caetano Veloso, easily became one of the most beautiful five minuets I ever had in a theatre.
Before I went to see "Bad education", I can't help wondering, Could I have another enjoyable moment like "Cucurrucucu Paloma"? Luckily, I did have one, sort of. The Spanish rendition of "Moon River" is such a beautiful and haunting piece. But unluckily, the way the music delivered in the film is so disturbing. It started as a beautiful and innocent singing by a boy standing by the river while ended up with an innuendo of the ugly fact of sexual violations. However, if you didn't see the movie, the "moon river" will be a pure pleasant enjoyment.
Compared to the slightly weak movie, the music itself is powerful and flawless. From the beginning to the end, it doesn't have a single dull moment. In a word, buy this awesome CD!
The Starving Crocodiles... .......2004-11-17
Almodovar's latest movie is undoubtedly his best, and a very inventive film-noir that absorbs and electrifies you from the very beginning. Alberto Iglesias' score serves "as a cradle where the movie rests" as the auteur himself said.
La Mala Educacion (Bad Education) is one of -if not- the best soundtrack composed this year, and its style is absolutely magnificent. Following the film-noir trend, Iglesias' score is a mixture of tunes a la Herrman ("Juan y el Sr. Berenguer", "Por mi grandisima culpa", "Escena Familiar"), poignant waltzes ("Foulard en seda", "La Carta", "Valsetto"), and vocalized cues that reflect the theme of the movie, and illustrate it fittingly ("Kyrie", "La piscina", "El cine como espejo"). "Cine Olympo", an exquisite theme for the movie-within-the-movie manifests itself disguisedly many times, in variations, as Iglesias' has done in previous scores where a parallel story is narrated - The Flower of my Secret, Live Flesh, Talk to Her, and All About my Mother- however the best track in the score is the "Overture". Other superb tracks are "Carta del mas alla", "Plato", and "Adagietto"... melodies that crave lust, but "Puerta Final" -the MAIN theme- is absolutely grand; probably the best potpourri of songs written in the last decade, that will grab you by the horns from the moment it opens to the last saxophone refrain, in an orgasm of eight minutes that you will want to experience over and over again.
The soundtrack also consists of key songs that in one way or another relate to the main characters and the story: "Maniqui Parisien", "Cuore Matto", "Moon River" (a very avant-garde arrangement), and "Jardinero".
Alberto Iglesias has composed a score so dark, rich, hunting, powerful, and mysterious... that proves to be irresistible.
Experience the Bad Education!!!

Lovin' this CD!.......2003-07-19
The ballads are smooth, the dance songs are pulsing and Enrique's vocals are fabulous, he sounds even better in spanish than in English. This is one of the best albums I've bought this year. If you're an Enrique fan (regardless of your native tongue)BUY IT!!!
One of his best Cd's Ever!.......2003-01-09
Not that much POP.......2002-10-23
Finally back to Spanish!.......2002-10-22
For a major mood-lifter.......2002-10-13
I am especially a fan of Enrique's fast songs, so the CD is a little heavy on the ballads, but they aren't bad as ballads go. My favorite songs are "No apagues la luz" "Pienso en ti" and "La chica de ayer".
I didn't enjoy the DVD that much because it doesn't include any of his recent videos! I was hoping for a video of "No apagues la luz", but it wasn't on there. But considering that I didn't pay any extra for the DVD, I shouldn't be one to complain.
Ever woman on earth should own this CD!

Mein Herr is amazing, easily the best track, Look What Happened to Mabel coming a very close second (I saw Caroline perform this song in Mack & Mabel and the standard was exactly the same, fantastic).
In my opinion Caroline's best with the belters which is why those two songs and also Big Spender stand out, very saucy! This CD comes very highly recommended for anyone into musical theatre and such, Caroline is fabulous.
