5 out of 5 stars Possibly Soda's best.......2006-08-23

For me, it's hard to decide between this disc and "Sueño Stereo" for Soda's all-around best effort. Right from the start on "Animal" we're treated to one of the best Cerati jams of all-time -- "En el Séptimo Día." It's a neat word play, too, for a song that is in a 7/4 time signature. "Un Millón de Años Luz" continues the musical joy, followed by the thrumming title track, and then the rockabilly-esque "1990." "De Música Ligera" and "Hombre al Agua" are just sensational with Cerati's guitar mixing perfectly with Zeta's booming bass. I prefer "Comfort y Música para Volar's" version of "Entre Canibales," and Aterciopelados' version of "Té Para 3" (on "Tributo a Soda Stereo") but the original versions here are certainly pleasing unto themselves.

If you don't own this Soda disc, you don't know what Soda you're missing.

5 out of 5 stars Remasterizado?.......2005-12-12

¿Alguien me podría informar?

5 out of 5 stars The best Soda Album.......2005-03-17

Soda Stereo is quite posibly the best Spanish Rock band that ever existed and this is, in my opinion, their best album. All songs but one made hit singles in my home country and they stayed in lists for over two years when combined. I even remember that at one time 6 of the 10 most played songs in radio stations came from this record. To this day, 12 years later, these songs play anywhere where there's people from Latin America and you see people singing along and jumping around. It is that good. One of those records that you always remember and cherish, not only for the music, which is exquisite, but for the great memories it brings back.

5 out of 5 stars Simplemente notable.......2004-12-08

5 out of 5 stars A true classic!!.......2004-06-03

This one true classic album from the undisputed kings rock in spanish, if you're not spanish please don't be fooled into thinking this sounds like Ricki martin or some other crap that's out there. Here is a song by song review:

1- En el séptimo día (9/10): awesome song, the guitar has a really strange kind of vibe, great chorus.

2- Un millon de años luz (10/10): one of my favorite soda songs. It has a really awesome intro, the song makes you feel as if you're flying or something, the guitar solo is really good.

3- Canción animal (10/10): great song, very misterious. It has probably one of the best lyrics i've ever heard (try to translate it if you are not apanish speaking).

4- 1990 (6/10): the only regular song of the album, i usually skip it.

5-Sueles dejarme solo (9/10): very simple song yet very effective.

6-De musica ligera (10/10): this is probably the most well known soda song. It a true classic in spanish speaking countries. The album was released in 1990 and to this day I still go out and hear the song (i live in venezuela). One of my favorites everytime i listen to it it reminds me of old girlfriends and my high school buddies.

7-Hombre al agua (10/10): one of their best and another classic song. It's a very moody song with kind of strange lyrics, the keyboards give the song an sort of airy ambience.

8- Entre canibales (10/10): very good song, a little more laid back than the rest, good lyrics.

9-Te para tres (9/10): I personally like this song very much, it really soft and hypnoticing, i actually prefer the unplugged versión, but this one is also good.

10- Cae el sol(9/10): great tune, very good choice to finish the album, it has sort of a happy feel to it, as if everything is going to be ok.

My recomendation is buy it (even if you don't speak spanish)

5 out of 5 stars Que gran disco..........2004-11-17

5 out of 5 stars Disco clave.......2004-01-26

5 out of 5 stars Rulers of Rock en Español.......2003-06-15

The other reviewers have pretty much said it all: signed and delivered. This production by extinct Argentinian super-band Soda Stereo, marks the peak of their creativity. Their work can almost be defined as pre-Cancion Animal and post-Cancion Animal. With some the band's most solid works, such as "El Septimo Dia" (the Seventh Day), "Un Millon de Años Luz" (A million lightyears), the track that gave the album its title, "De Música Ligera" (Made of Light Music) and "Hombre al Agua" (Man Overboard), this production is as solid as any Rock en Español act can aspire for, but also it marks a musical landmark that should serve as a reference for Rock music at large.

By blending styles gradually from Ska, Punk Rock and a sound that resembled The Police in Spanish in their first years, the band rised up to the ocasion during the years when music in English was not well regarded in Argentina (after the war in the Falkland Islands). Later on, they took on a particular-yet-ever-evolving style that would only belong to them, as the best Rock act in Latin America, during most of the eighties and the first part of the nineties, something that not even Mana or Cafe Tacuba can come remotely close to. If you want to get into Soda deeper, get this album, get Signos, and get "El Ultimo Concierto" (A and B). You won't regret it ever.

5 out of 5 stars Soda's masterpiece...!.......2003-05-12

This is quite probably the best work by any "rock in spanish" band in the world. Soda Stereo is widely regarded as the best latin group ever, and this is definetely their masterpiece.

The record starts strongly enough with "(En) el séptimo día", a song with deep, twisted lyrics and great guitar riffs. It's followed by another great standard, "Un millón de años luz", showing some of Charly Alberti's best drum work. After that comes the title track, one of Soda's best pieces, and "1990" probably their *silliest* song, with a bit of a country influence in it.

Then there's "Sueles dejarme solo", that slows the record a bit, followed by three of their staples, "De música ligera" (their most famous track), "Hombre al agua" (a crowd favorite at concerts) and "Entre canibales". These tracks are filled with great guitar riffs, keyboards and nice bass lines.

Closing the album are "Te para tres", a mostly acoustic track, and "Cae el sol".

Definetely worthy of any music lover's collection -- this is a statement of Soda's greatness

5 out of 5 stars Simple and Powerful.......2003-02-11

This a record that has not been out performed by any other latin band or Soda Stereo. In a way, it is the point of reference for many casual latin rock fans on Soda's music.

The most striking aspect of this recording is how simple and straight foward these songs are. The instrumentation is perhaps the most guitar oriented in Soda's recording career. Zeta (bass) and Charly (drums) layed down a extremely solid foundation for Cerati's guitar to come foward. This recording offers a set of songs that have become standards for a Soda Stereo live performance such as the title track, De Musica Ligera, Hombre al Agua, Un Millon de años luz, etc..
