5 out of 5 stars "He who sings prays twice.".......2004-03-16

The words of St. Augustine are well applied to this album. If you liked Kansas, you will like this album. If you are looking for contemporary music to teach your children or friends how to like worship music, you will like this album.

This album is a fine example of what worship music should be, and almost never manages to be. It is good music all on its own, with powerful lyrics and a strong and inclusive message.

And by the way, I'm actually not a Christian. I hunted this album down because I really liked the song 'Corridors' and couldn't get it out of my head. I didn't even know the name of the song, only the lyrics from the chorus. They were extremely memorable. I'm glad I have this album.

5 out of 5 stars Setting The Standard.......2003-06-30

John Elefante truly sets a new standard in Spirit-filled music. His lyrics minister straight to the heart while his peerless vocals are better than his Kansas days. This CD, along with Windows of Heaven, and Defying Gravity, are a level Above in terms of music, lyrics, and production. God is certainly working through John's gift.

5 out of 5 stars You gotta listen & purchase this CD.......2001-08-22

I have heard John's music longer than most people and have always been moved by his voice. John and I went to school together in Long Beach, Ca.(from the time his family moved to Long Beach) and I would get spoiled in hearing him either at his house or at school. Corridors is simply the most outstanding work I've heard from an artist in a long time. Every song is extremely uplifting and I NEVER have to worry about "is this ok for my children to hear? John, Keep belting out the word! Bottom line, BUY THIS CD RIGHT AWAY!

4 out of 5 stars Song after Song - Endless Corridor.......2000-09-15

Another great John Elefante album. His vocal passion, quality, interpretation ... it's all here. Then there's the great production, lyrics, compositions ... all here too!

John Elefante stands above his peers in the CCM genre. The amazing thing is how in the world the mainstream markets can pass up this talented artist. Oh well, thankfully I don't think John is too concerned about this rejection. He is very confident in his talents and his calling ... both very evident in his music.

The best way I can describe Corridors is that I simply find it impossible to listen to it without listening to the whole CD. Although, not a concept album, it has a seamless continuity ... a great CD to take on a long trip.

From the very start, the theme of the album is set with these words from the title track: "Take me down the Corridor that leads me to the Cross ... I want to be where You are" ... John also wants us to come along and his music is a vehicle to get there ...

5 out of 5 stars John Elefante's "Corridors" is superb!.......2000-08-16

A few weeks ago, at the advice of one of my sisters, I purchased John Elefante's "Defying Gravity" and totally fell in love with it. I found out that John Elefante had 2 other prior solo CDs so I quickly purchased "Corridors". I immediately fell in love with "Corridors" as well. John Elefante and his brother, Dino, are extraordinarily gifted songwriters. Their lyrics are heart-felt, worshipful and inspirational. Their incredible melodies are (for lack of a better word) totally addictive. I put their songwriting ability on the same level as Lennon and McCartney (and as an avid Beatles fan, I never thought I would ever put anyone else's music on that level). The songs on "Corridors" are powerful, beautiful, and anointed, full of insight, passion and energy. And I can not say enough about John Elefante's incredible voice! He is, without a doubt, one of the best singers I have ever heard. I have read many reviews speaking about the fact that he was with Kansas. At the time I purchased "Defying Gravity", I did not know who he was, so I did not have any pre-conceived expectations when I bought his CD. I can honestly say that I was captured by his music right from the start because it stands on its own as being the BEST, not just in Christian music, but in the music arena at large. It's a real shame that he is not more widely recognized, acknowledged and appreciated for the magnificent God-given talent and wisdom he possesses. I pray that he realizes that there are those of us who know genius when we hear it and that he will continue to follow God's direction which has served him (and his listeners) so beautifully. I have recommended "Corridors" and "Defying Gravity" to everyone I know and I will continue to do so because God has blessed him with an exceptional gift that deserves to be heard. The world needs his message and his music.

5 out of 5 stars Best of the 3 from John.......2006-03-10

This album is one of my favorite of all and definantly the best of the 3 John has put out. If you like Kansas you will love this beautiful album. Great words, music and scorching vocals will make you want his other two albums. We need a new one John.

4 out of 5 stars Great!.......2005-08-09

John Elefante is simply awesome in 'Windows of Heaven'. The most memorable songs on the track are 'That's Why God Made The Moon' and 'No One's Ever Died for Me Before'. John sings the song in a very simple-toned yet very expressive and heartfelt way. The only regret I have is that the rest of the CD fails to convey as much energy as the songs mentioned above. Any fan of John Elefante, producer of albums for such groups as Petra, Greg Long, or Nikki Leonti will certainly appreciate this album.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD Anywhere, in the car, at work, at play, &while resting.......2007-02-19

HI: I just bought this CD and I really like it. It is a great CD for anytime. The songs are great and not old churchy. I like listening to this Cd during stressful periods in my days, and when I am exercising.
The songs are wonderfully written and the vocals to match them. The words really make you think about your soul and your choices in life.
I wish there were more songs on this CD. I want to hear the next compilation for MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST. I also bought the other CD for My Utmost for his highest and I really enjoyed both.

5 out of 5 stars An overlooked masterpiece........2001-03-22

This CD was released 8 months after the huge success of the first My Utmost for His Highest project. Unfortunately, it failed to sell in the same numbers as the first. I will admit that at first, I didn't like it as much as the first. But it has grown on me, and now I like it more.

In my mind, one of the reasons it failed to sell in the same numbers as the first is that it doesn't have the name recognition the first did. While the first had Amy Grant, 4Him, Point of Grace, etc., this one has Anointed, Clay Crosse, Greg Long, and Lisa Bevill, among others. Michael W. Smith does make a return visit for two songs, the incredible SOMEDAY (SET THE CHILDREN FREE) and a recording with Anointed of JOYFUL, JOYFUL that's similar to Crown Him with Many Crowns from I'll Lead You Home.

Still, the reason this CD is so powerful is because of the overall theme and message of the songs. The idea was to release a collection around God's covenant with us and our response to it. When I really sat down and listened to the CD with that in mind, I was blown away. Some of the lyrics include: "I have made a promise/And so it will be...I belong to you/And you to Me." "I say it's a promise/A covenant, a destiny/I will come to set My children free." Susan Ashton contributes a beautiful version of Psalm 121 taken almost word for word from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible. By the time I reach the response to God, I find it easy to be praying "I promise all of my ways" and can claim the promise that "We will follow You, knowing You'll lead us through." The two instrumental songs, incorporating melodies from the other songs, add to the reflective mood.

This CD belongs in every Christian home. It is a great reminder of Who is ultimately in control of our lives and our world, and what He has promised to those who believe in Him.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2000-05-29

I loved this CD as much as the first one. If you have read Oswald Chamber's book, heard the first CD or are looking for an inspirational religious CD with music to please every taste, you have to buy this CD!

5 out of 5 stars If you worship through music, It's a MUST!.......1999-10-02

A perfect sequal to "My Utmost For His Highest". You truly feel the Spirit! A wonderful mix of todays top gospel musicians. Contemporary mixed with traditional. Make sure you read the excerpts on the inside cover!

5 out of 5 stars When I'm tired or low, this CD definitely lifts my spirit!.......1999-07-14

The technical mixing of the CD is top quality! We have a surround sound home theater system, and you can hear every instrument and voice distinctly. The separation is superb! The music is annointed and Jesus' presence enters as you praise Him and listen to this music. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone that wants to enter into God's presence.

3 out of 5 stars First track from movie "Revelation".......2007-01-12

I bought this CD because the track "Just Believe" was the theme song for the movie, "Revelation" by Cloud Ten Pictures. While that song is cool, the other ones were not as good and seem like the artist has left the bands of the past to work on his own - he is no good without the original band members of Petra. So I only listen to track 1 and then change disks.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2006-02-28

As someone always in search of good Christian music I spend alot of time listening to 100's of different titles on the Resound machine at the local bookstore. Be it praise and worship or Hardcore Metal, I don't discriminate and over the years I've picked up a large of array of CD's now nearing the 500 mark. While I've now listened to all John Elefante's albums trying to find one like this one I have had no such luck. This is a great album and unique in itself. It seems that John struggled through bad production in previous attempts and never had the formula to produce a "defying gravity" before or after. Like all great albums the music flows from one song to the next and is highlighted by strong lyrics and what would seem a vast amount of instrumentation at John's disposal. The highlight of the album to me would be the 3rd Cut, "the stream", if John Elefante ever fell into a perfect song for his voice and instrument box this would be it. As artists in general struggle to find themselves, occasionally a great album comes out, examples of this are without number, as are the hopeless albums they produced before and after their moments of grandeur. Everything else aside, this is an album worth having, it's emotional and heartfelt and amazingly put together, a true masterpiece of Christian music.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!!.......2003-01-31

John Elefante continues to show the world his God-given talents are truly a gift from above. This man set the rock and roll world on fire in 1980 with Kansas and he continues to grow in leaps and bounds. "Defying Gravity" is his best solo work yet. This is the kind of album that will speak to anyone who listens with powerful lyrics, delivered with an even more powerful voice. More than two years after its release I still catch myself singing tunes from this CD. If you love music sung to perfection then I encourage you to buy this CD. John is truly a gift from God and I can't wait to hear his powerful voice again.

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2001-08-22

What can I say but, John , you've outdone yourself! I switch back and forth as to what I like better, Corridors or Defying Gravity. You will not be sorry if you purchase this. Holds up well to the Elefante tradition. Classic!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Defying the Norm in CCM.......2000-09-14

If you are looking for an album full of power, excellent production, superb compositions and first-rate musicianship in the CCM genre, this is it! Not to mention that John Elefante sounds better and better. His vocal interpretation, passion, range and quality is hard to beat (or match).

Although his previous works with KANSAS and his other solo efforts have been good, what stands out most with Defying Gravity, among other things, is the lyrics. More straight-forward and uncompromising.

This one is well worth the admission price. If you dismiss Defying Gravity, you'll miss out on one of the best CCM offerings in a while.

While Defying the CCM formulamatic norm, this is a CD the whole family should enjoy!

I'd give it 4 1/2 stars ...

5 out of 5 stars Truly Amazing..........2006-07-06

I heard "Durmiendo con la Luna" on a trip to algodones. As soon as the music started to play I completely fell in love with it. I then bought the cd and I could relate every song I heard to my life at that present time. I had just met my 6 month old niece and was able to really fall in love with this CD, the music, the lyrics while I fell in love with my little girl. Highly Recommend this album.

5 out of 5 stars Mejor que Reyli.......2006-03-01

5 out of 5 stars Emusic.......2006-02-03

This Band is Truly Amazing. Without Reyli they have held there own. Songs Like "Ven", "Estoy Loco", "Si Tu Quieres", "Angel", "Durmiendo Con La Luna" are my Favorites, But I love them All. I can't wait for There Next CD. I am a True Fan of this Band and Will always Buy there Music.I Highly Recommend this CD......

5 out of 5 stars Un buen disco.......2005-08-11

5 out of 5 stars Very Nice Cd.......2005-05-16

I picked up Elefante's new cd in New York and its very nice. This is ny second cd from Elefante and this group rocks. Its not as nice as the cd before but its worth the money. I paid dearly but I live in Flordia and here in Flordia you don't find half the spanish cds you can find in New York. I recommed Elefante's new cd. Thank You.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Music!.......2004-08-09

I first encountered the song "Asi Es La Vida" in one of my college Spanish classes. My TA was from Mexico, and she wanted us to learn more about Latin American culture along with the language. She always had us listen to different music and translate the songs, and I fell in love with this song. The rest of the CD is fantastic also! It's shame that most bands from the United States can't put out a CD filled with top-quality songs like Elefante has.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Poetry- Wonderful Music-As good as it gets.......2004-07-27

I bought this upon the suggestion of the local 7-11 guy, had only heard Asi Es La Vida on the radio. But, this is a much better disc than that one popular song reveals. In fact, this is one of my all time favorite discs of any kind of music. It has a level of sophistication that is rare in popular music. I have become a promoter for Elefante. The recording is a delight. More please.

Que bueno! Veteran jazz musician Ben Sidran and his son Leo launch their first album for kids with a sprinkling of original bilingual songs in a range of musical styles. With plenty of fun, `70s-style synthesizer sounds, children's voices, and silly rhymes (such as the bewildering line "Keep that goose loose / Shoot the juice to the moose"), this is a true children's album, and not the kind of kids' CD that is secretly for adults. The album's Spanish influence comes from Leo, who learned the language as a child and later traveled in Spain. Some songs, such as the bopping "Fantastic Bubble," alternate English and Spanish verses, and others, such as the mellifluous closing lullaby "Duermete," mix in a few Spanish words. Other selections, such as "Pushing and Shoving" (which Leo wrote--and recorded--for his girlfriend when he was a boy) and Ben's song "Take It Easy Greasy," are solid English-language silliness. Kids will giggle at the funky jams in "The Tickle Monster" ("I'm going to tickle on your tummy and tickle on your toe / And if you want me to stop you just say no!"); or, they might jump around wildly to "Popcorn's Got a Brand New Bag" and its distinctive James Brown groove. El Elefante is a buoyant offering and labor of love from a father-and-son team. --Karin Snelson

5 out of 5 stars Let's GO!!!.......2005-03-05

This Album was a great discovery at the local public library and we couldn't wait to get our own copy, which currently resides in the car for our two-year-old to enjoy on the way to day care - Dad starts with "Let's Go," then we proceed to the car and listen to bilingual humour with a slight reggae beat (kind of a slow ska, with horns). "Let's go, Baminos" Our family has really enjoyed Dan Zanes, Pete Seeger, Raffi, etc., but this seems to be a nice departure from the folk genre, without getting too annoying (try both of Gunnar Madsen's albums as well!). My son seems to enjoy singing with the album and likes to "shoot the juice to the moon" while pointing to the sky (juice appears to be going to the moose, Bruce). "Old Man" Dad prefers "Popcorn's got a brand new bag," which reminds him of a certain funk/soul staple of years gone by. Interesting to see that another reviewer likes the "pushing and shoving" song - at first, I didn't like the out-of-tune child's voice, but it has grown on me and reminds me of a little Ziggy Marley singing in rememberance of his father at Reggae Sunsplash '81. This is certainly a goofy album, but it is one that parents and their kids should be able to enjoy over and over again....

I had the honor of meeting Ben and Leo when they visited and performed for a small group while promoting their CD. This CD is great! I bought it when my boy was just a baby and to be honest...I played it for myself.

My favorite song is "Pushin and shoven" which Leo wrote and recorded when he was just a little tike. I believe he said he was six. He's now an adult. Leo traveled and lived in Spain where he learned to love the Spanish language. Some of the songs have spanish words for the kids to learn.

Buy this CD...your kids will love it and you will too!

5 out of 5 stars Great for parents too!.......2004-08-05

If you're like me with a toddler, you probably don't have time to listen your old CDs but this one is one you can both enjoy. I also heard about this one on NPR. It has good tunes in musical styles and in its lyrics with great lessons for the kids. The popcorn song is very much "kid" but it has the old blues classic rhythm. "I want to grow up" is excellent in its message that the kids can grow up to whatever they wish and that "you should wait and see and find out what I'm going to be." All in all, nice to listen for both parents and kids. Not too mushy & not too kidlike, very original and definitely beats the ice-cream truck music tunes. I'm hoping the father-son duo have a new CD out soon.

5 out of 5 stars addiction toddler style.......2003-04-03

My 2 year old is addicted to this CD! We listen to "her music" almost every morning while eating breakfast and every evening before bed. The nice thing about it is - I'm addicted to it too! It's fun and original. A very nice departure from the traditional toddler songs (wheels on the bus, itsy bitsy spider, etc.) The mixture of Spanish and English is great - it's wonderful to hear my daughter babbling in 2 languages.

4 out of 5 stars A Father and Son's musical gift to children.......2003-02-19

I first heard Ben and Leo Sidran's work on NPR's All Things Considered and I immediately went to purchase it for my young son. Ben and Leo have put together an album that's fun for both children and adults, replete with bilingual rhymes and a jazzy feel reminiscent of styles ranging from Ronaldo Folegatti to Maceo Parker. The songs are lighthearted and playful. All in all, a wonderful family collaboration and enojoyable to music lovers of all ages.

4 out of 5 stars An excellent overview of a classic rock band.......2005-08-08

Kansas were one of the few American bands to whole heartedly jump on the progressive rock bandwagon. This album, originally released in 1984, brings together most of their most popular singles and key album tracks and despite the inclusion of a couple of truly wretched 80's songs is perhaps their most enjoyable. Carry On Wayward Son is their one truly transcendental song with its rousing chorus, shifting rhythms and great guitar/keyboard interplay.Other highlights are the wonderful and evocative Point of Know Return, the sublime Dust in the Wind which has become something of a standard, and to top it all, the superb Song For America which is their most exciting and fully realized progressive rock epic.
The album is somewhat marred by the predictable inclusion of a few more recent songs (Kansas were still an ongoing concern in the 80's). Especially jarring is the bland corporate rocker Fight Fire With Fire which is a depressing reminder of just how uninspired 80's rock was. While listening to 70's Kansas evokes images of trailblazing pioneers seeking new frontiers, whenever I hear that song all that is conjured up is an image of a spandex clad singer with blow-dried hair prancing around the stage like a prat.
Fortunately though, this is an excellent overview and is highly recommended.

1 out of 5 stars A Lousy Recording, And Just Plain Sloppy........2005-08-04

If you are not really a big Kansas fan, and just looking for a few Kansas songs "to have", Then this recording is probably ok for you. I can tell right off that true Kansas fans probably find this collection embarassing. So embarassing in fact, that this CD has been out since the CD format was in it's infancy, and no one, until me, has bothered to review it here. True Kansas fans probably ignore the existance of this recording altogether. First off, right at the opening of "Carry On Wayward Son", the first track on the CD, you can tell something is WRONG. The echo is overpowering, something that is not part of the original recordings. It gives the CD that "Electronicaly Rechanneled To Simulate Stereo" feel that you used to only get with cheap bargain bin recordings that were beefed up from the original mono masters. It's downright annoying. Plus, 10 tracks does not do the band's retrospective justice. Even if you are not a huge Kansas fan, you may find that the way this CD was re-produced may get on your nerves. My guess is that when the CD format was new, CBS did a rush job on it's back catalogue to get some of the old LP's to market on CD. Some joker at CBS decided to throw in a little extra echo to make the record sound like they did something special for the CD release. Well, it didn't work out like they planned. And it shows. I am sure that there are other Kansas retrospectives on the market that better represent the fine work of this great band. I would suggest you seek one out, and pass this one up. This collection is better off as a distant, and very insulting, memory of how stupid some major label executives think we really are.

former Kansas vocalist and his producer brother put out some great fairly hard guitar rock. Check out the video on YouTube.

5 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorite albums.......2005-09-11

This CD, along with Lofcaudio, are the only two discs that John and Dino Elefante's group called Mastedon ever made, at least to date. That's too bad, because both albums define quality and great music. If you can get your hands on a copy of either album, I -highly- recommend doing so.
