Polo Montanez (Fernando Borrego Linares) died in 2002, from injuries sustained in a road accident. Sadly, this weather-beaten Cuban farm worker had only been discovered in 1999. His first album, Guajiro Natural, was released the following year and became a huge hit throughout Latin America, especially in Colombia, where it achieved Platinum status. The present CD was his second recording. Produced in Havana and Paris, it followed a series of triumphant live performances where Polo sold out entire stadiums, winning over audiences who did not usually follow guajiro (peasant) music. And no wonder; his boyishly husky voice and sunny, arpeggiated guitar licks are well-nigh irresistible. Here, he leads a sympathetic crew of journeyman instrumentalists and close-harmony back-up vocalists in 14 tunes and each one is a melody-drenched, dance-inducing delight. Polo comes across as unpretentious, soulful, and warm, a man of the people caught up in the pleasure of everyday music-making. --Christina Roden

Stunning and addictive..........2004-05-02
I can't believe I'm the first to review this album..........2004-04-30
All fourteen tracks are unique and have infectious, guitar-driven rhythms imbued with Polo's impassioned vocals. The Amazon reviewer said it best; there's a feeling here of unpretentiousness. Polo was a man of the people who enjoyed performing for those who loved his music. His music is truly a godsend, and I'm glad I discovered this hidden treasure in the "World Music" section of my nearest CD store.
I'm sorry to hear of this great musician's passing in 2002. I wasn't aware of Polo's death prior to purchasing this album. But hearing the greatness of this disc only saddens me that he is gone and will no longer be able to grace us with his truly special gift.
If you're a music-enthusiast who takes pride in diversifying his or her collection (like me), you can't go wrong with this purchase.

Opening with the plaintive "Oye Guitarra Mía," this tribute to the great José Feliciano revels in the Latin pop master's command of lavish musical settings as well his bustling salsa expertise. The 16 tracks boast more than 20 guests, each of them stopping by to share vocals or moods with Feliciano, who chimes in bulkily on 10 of the CD's tunes. The heartfelt and stylistically expansive disc opens with Marc Anthony, continues with Gisselle, and has Feliciano himself at the mike for "Isla Mía" and one of his favorite tunes, the Doors' "Light My Fire." The tribute's DVD release will capture what the CD's cover booklet only shows in a two-page visual spread: the elaborate, colorfully built stage show that couches this mood-mixing session. --Andrew BartlettCustomer Reviews:

Album Details
Polo is the Hottest Musican in Cuba and his Albums Are the Most Popular Albums on the Island. The Album is a Celebration of Love and the Joys of Living a Simple Life in the Country. Its an Affirmation of Life and Fidelity to a Lover. Its About Want and Need and Longing. Cubans Call it "Country Music" Because of the Acoustic Style of Play, Without the Salsa Piano and Horns. Although You Can Hear Several Diverse Styles of Music Integrated Into the Album from Rock, Salsa, Blues and Folk, the Music Seems to Effortlessly Trancend all These Styles and Creates a Unique Sound on It's Own.Customer Reviews:

Pablo Milanes. This is a great cd that ties not only two giants of latin music but songs of Cuba and Puerto Rico. Both voices compliments each other. This was a dream come true for Montanez who wanted to record with Milanes. It is dream come true for all fans of latin music.
