This set offers four generously-filled CDs comprising almost 140 Spanish songs from Victoria de los Angeles' repertoire. To all of them she brings a special dignity and an unfailing beauty of voice. The earliest recordings date from 1950 and the last is the items she sang at the opening of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Yes, you will find the ubiquitous "Clavelitos!" here, and a later version of "La maya el ruisenor" from "Goyescas". The enclosed booklet provides illuminating notes by Lionel Salter, who also translated many of the texts which are also included. Accompanists include Gerald Moore and Alicia de Larrocha, and Victoria de Los Angeles provides a guitar accompaniment herself in one song. The last track of all, a zapateado from a zarzuela, recorded live in New York, must almost have brought the house down.

I have had the benefit of seeing him perform with as well as without the New World Renaissance band, and all I can say is; he's -enchanting!!- I have all of his CDs and just cannot get enough of his beautiful voice, skillful pronunciation of ancient dialects, and inspired, emotional renditions of pieces that I never would have known existed without is engrossing song. His artistry and musicianship are impeccable, and he puts his soul into every word. You'll feel it even if you don't speak the language or know the lyrics- he'll capture your heart and imagination too! Take a listen!! :D

One of the Best of the Renaissance Faire Performers.......2004-03-12

I have to admit I have a real weakness for Owain Phyfe. From the first time I heard him sing at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire I knew I had to own every CD that he put out. He carefully researchs and finds music of the era and then his beautiful voice and his friends musical talents go to work.
Any one who enjoys folk, classical voice or just really great singing will love this album.

Indescribably soothing and beautiful.......1999-08-28

This c.d. is a collection of lovely songs in a variety of languages. Owain Phyfe's voice moves effortlessly over the lyrics, accompanied by skilled instrumental musicians. I had the opportunity to see this man live at a renaissance faire, and it was an unbelievable experience. He's one of the few performers who sounds as good live (if not better) as he does on c.d. His voice is ethereally beautiful!!! I recommend all four of his c.d.'s. When I saw him live, I got to pick the language for one of his songs...I chose Latin, and he proceeded to sing a gorgeous, haunting tune from the "Odyssey" c.d.

I have turned to this melodious CD many times to find a pleasant reprieve from the cares of the everyday world. Open the CD, note the stylized Tudor Rose which epitomizes the music of this very gifted group. You easily see that something old and familiar has been transformed into a fresh creation, yet remains faithful to its origins. The album contains several songs by popular Elizabethan composers John Dowland and Thomas Campion. Dowland has been praised for his "heavenly touch upon the lute", and these talented musicians are surely no less divine.

Good Bachata Cd.......2006-04-06

This cd i bought at the recommendation of another person.Im gonna give it 4stars because i dont really like some songs and a cd that gets 5 stars is one that you dont skip songs.Besides everything i recommend it the artist has a good voice and the music is great also but dont expect to enjoy it all.

Raulin is still one the best bachateros!.......2004-04-06

This album by Raulin has to be on the best in his repertoire one that is already a showcase of exceptional talent. I expected nothing but the best and I think Raulin delivered. This album seems to combine the various styles of bachata that Raulin has produced in the past few years. This album to me has nuances from "Arrancame la vida", "Sin Fortuna" and "Derroche de Amor" but very unique in its own right. The rhythm and lyrics of these songs I must say are the best ever. As for Casilda his forever-female vocalist has simply outdone herself this time. Every bachata that she is a part of is just incredible. Respect due she is a tremendous singer as well. All the bachatas are great. I have my favorites but no doubt about it this album can be played right through to the end. However, Ay Hombe, Es mejor, Y ahora te vas and Si no te tengo are quite impressive. The sole merengue "Mi tonto amor" is a remake of the original version. It's very well done in bachatamerengue. No question about it if you are a fan of Raulin and bachata this is a collector's album.
