Desde peque?o me gusto la musica de soraya, me acuerdo cuando me quedaba dormido escuchando DE REPENTE, nunca me intereso la musica de soraya como ahora, no se porque razon, pero siempre me gusto, ummm debo decir que me desconcerto la muerte de esta gran mujer puesto ademas de talentosa fue muy bella y con una voz que ni que decir, este album es el mejor de todos, sus letras profundas y mensaje de esperanza, son algo que solo ella lo hizo de una forma unica, No se porque solo promociono 2 Sencillos puesto habian muchas canciones las cuales son muy buenas, pero las mejores y las mas hermosas son MIENTO, que en su version en ingles es mejor y SIN EXPLICACION que es excelente, claro esta excepto a CASI y SOLO POR TI.
Bueno nos dejo un hermoso legado y un ejemplo de fuerza y valor como ningun otro.
Lo ultimo que digo es que compren sus CD's SORAYA y EL OTRO LADO DE MI que son muy buenos.

I just saw her with my girlfriend in a private concert in Queens, NY and she was promoting this CD. Although, she has some nice lyrics and good songs, many of them sounded the same. She is a beautiful person both inside and out but her unique existance was lacking in some of her songs.

I bought this cd because I wanted to know the Soraya music, and it was a nice surprise to listen to her music and lyrics.
My favorites songs are Casi, Solo por ti, Miento, Prisionera,
Naufrago, A tu lado; I mean the entire cd. It's great

Excellent CD.......2003-12-10

If there's anything lacking in this CD, that is depression. Please, the songs cover a wide range of emotions from love, happiness, and the joy of overcoming cancer. This cd comes from a true artist who writes her songs, plays her guitar, and sings from the heart. This not your usual commercial nonsense crap. BTW it helps it you UNDERSTAND Spanish otherwise you wont appreciate the beauty of her music which is perhaps what's depressing some ;)

the endless circle of life.......2006-12-28

Talking about Soraya leads me inevitably to talk about my mother. Both are not physically with us and both share a sensitiveness that will endlesly shine..

Soraya's music brought a different shape and sense to my own personal experiences, so I do not consider I can be completely objective reviewing this album.
Her first well-known album includes the classic De Repente and takes us to intimate journeys in which chords, bass and voice mix up elegantly. There is a continuous line throughout the entire album: the expression of a mild voice and the account for what she had experienced. One of her most personal tracks, En Esta Noche, tells us the feeling of losing someone you deeply love. The intro is dark, deep, and it suddenly moves from wind to earth.. "no importa lo que se diga, el tiempo no sana todo" she says and then she praises the strength of that who struggled and finally passed away. Strength and courage is what one needs to go through life. She knew about it and she knew how to express it.
Other remarkable tracks are the folk-like Pueblito Viejo which combines guitar and a transparent string arrangement and Calma antes de la Tormenta which could have been another single following Suddenly, in which tunes change as the vocal and the lyrics reach their highest point.

Music is part of life and life is part of death. An eternal circle in which all of us move. Music helps us make this unexplicable journey a clearer path.

Inspirational and Directional.......2005-12-25

I had first heard (Track #1) this very vaugely in english. Then later in the year I started listening to a latin Radio Station and Heard it (Track #1) in spanish not knowing there is a version in english and by the Same person. But I knew this was a very familar Song. De Repente is what started my life and the new life I Started at 18. I know she speaks of her Experinces and I am deeply blessed to understand. She has Drawn love out of my heart in a way no one has. Even though I am a man I have not experinced breast Cancer, Her Songs are like Messages that You and I could Relate In our own ways. What Makes Soraya "Soraya" is her Gift to the world. Her Music Is Like the Higher Power For those That Beleive. It embraces you with love in many different affections. Then it Cleanses Your heart of the Spiritual Poisoning we have felt. Then it baptizes us With Renewed Hope, Stength and Inspiration.

Beautiful voice..........2005-01-11

Soraya is a singer-songwriter from Columbia. Unlike her other releases, she sings in English on this album with the exception of the last song "Pueblito Viejo". Mostly the music is kept to minimum placing the emphasis on her beautiful voice. She sounds like a cross between Natalie Merchant and Carole King. She also plays acoustic guitar and mandolin. Rod Argent is the keyboardist and he produced the album as well.

I was surprised by her new Cd. I didn't heard the Single "Llévame/Lead me" but when i did, i can't believe all that Energy and her voice with new tones. I love this unknow side of Soraya. I love "Sin Tu Amor","Un Segundo Lento","Como Sería" and my favourite "Un Mundo Sin prisa". Great Cd. a gift from this beautiful singer.God bless her and rest n peace

Tomorrow by Soraya in 2005:

The tragedy of the tsunami that hit South Asia this past December, the pain and suffering surrounding the Terri Schiavo story, and even the recent death of Pope John Paul II have all inspired me to re-evaluate my own existence. Like many others that have been through a life-threatening illness, I took this journey a few years back after my cancer diagnosis. But I must constantly check myself to make sure that I do not get lost and forget the valuable lessons that that hardship and pain taught me. The only certainty we can count on is the uncertainty of life. Twists and turns come without warning, and all that we perceive to be true can change in a fleeting instant.

I think of the tourists sitting on the beach, looking out at the vast Indian Ocean, watching their kids play in the sand. Then, in a few short, terrifying moments, all is gone. I think of the villagers, those that survived, wading through the muck searching for their lost lives. The "I should have"s or "I wish I had"s do not exist anymore. There is no time for a warm hug, a long gaze, or another "I love you." The tomorrow they had envisioned will never come. That time is gone.

I think of Terri Schiavo. I look at the picture of her before the heart attack that began her demise. How beautiful she was. Then I see the picture seen by millions around the world, the one with the blank look and open mouth. In the prime of her youth, why would she have thought to prepare a living will? She was young and vibrant with a long, healthy life ahead of her. But in a brief moment, all of that changed. Her tomorrow became encapsulated in a hospital bed with an endless stream of minutes flowing agonizingly into themselves. She is now physically gone, and we will never know how much she suffered nor what her wishes truly were. Her family is left shattered while she is now finally resting. The tomorrow they were all looking forward to dissolved the day she lost consciousness.

I think of Pope John Paul II. Having seen Parkinson's disease and life's time clock break down someone very close to me, I breathed a sigh of relief when the pope passed. He had a full life. He accomplished much. His passing is a joyous occasion. Death is inevitable, and it should be welcomed at the end of a good life. Sometimes tomorrow comes just as it should.

We have become so attached that we forget that all we love, all we have, all we aspire to be is on loan. Life and love are gifts for us to cherish and treasure, but they are gifts that can go away without warning. That is what makes love so intense. That is what makes life a miracle. The uncertainty of tomorrow is what should inspire us to appreciate the here and now.

Youth tricks us into thinking that we can prepare and plan. Fresh faces think that time is on their side and nothing will ever go wrong. Tomorrow, they think. There is always tomorrow. I don't have to think about that now. I'll tell him how I really feel about him some other day. Maybe next year I'll go get a check-up. I'll take care of that later. I'll say thanks to my mom next weekend. Tomorrow it'll be fine.

But when tomorrow came for me, I ended up sitting in front of my doctor in a peach-colored gown hearing from him that my life was no longer what I thought it would be. When tomorrow came for the families of the tsunami victims, they were searching for bodies and cleaning up the rubble that was once their homes. When tomorrow came for Terri Schiavo, she could no longer express her emotions or thoughts. When tomorrow came for Pope John Paul II, he must have felt relief to be freed from the body that had failed him.

Take a moment to think about all that you put aside until tomorrow. Call your mom or dad. Make amends with an estranged friend. Spend a long moment holding your child and memorizing every turn in his or her face. Make time to take care of yourself. Turn off the television and have a conversation with a loved one.

When you love knowing that love is a gift, when you know that your body is your temporary gift in this lifetime, when you realize that none of our material possessions matter nor remain with us when the loan is called in, that is when you are freed to truly live.

El otro lado del alma de Soraya........2006-05-12

Se fue, como Rocio Durcal, sin mas adios que el de un mensaje escueto, pero emotivo. Pero este CD, no es una despedida, es una leccion de vida y de amor. Sin estridencias rockeras, con su voz suave y como al descuido, pero sin perder el sentimiento de sus melodias, Soraya Jimenez junto al talento de Sebastian Krys y de quienes le respaldaron musicalmente, hizo nacer un album emotivo e inolvidable, resaltando su homenaje a la humilde poetisa colombiana Maria Amparo Amaya, titulado "Soy Alma de la Calle" entonada con tanto amor en presencia suya, como en el estudio de grabacion, que emociona aun a quienes no nos gustan los temas sociales.

Asi recordaremos a Soraya: en accion y derrochando amor y sentimientos vivos. No ha muerto, de alguna manera, SIGUE VIVO el otro lado de su alma.

Certainly not her best work. It is most definately Soraya-esque, but the singing doesn't have that spark as on her CD titled "Soraya". Probably would think twice before purchasing if I had known.

Soraya leads us to her best work yet!.......2005-04-10

This fifth release is by far Soraya's best effort yet. If we consider that her albums all follow that traditional line of female singer/songwriter: introspective lyrics, avoid overexposure, great singles chosen. But with "El otro lado de mi" she has captured an element that kind of stepped aside after the release of "En esta noche/ On nights like this". A creative side that seemed present on her next three albums, but not with the impressiveness that it has on this cd. Ideally this new album should've been the follow up to her debut album, if we consider the potential it has. It contains by far her best lyrical work, the arrangements are risky and the content is again, following her "En esta noche" release, the best up to date.

The lead single "Llevame" has a great hook to it which commands your attention. She has revealed an edgier side: "Ser", "El otro lado de mi", and one of my favorites "La promesa", all add a stronger, more rock-driven feeling than we've experienced before. But she does not let down on her intimate side: "Un mundo sin prisa", "Un segundo lento (second chance)" and my favorite "Como seria". They all continue to show that Soraya is by far one of the best contemporary lyricist when crafting love songs. Ballads that are creatively simple, songs that leave you speechless with the content.

"El otro lado de mi" also calls for social introspective. "Alma de la calle" speaks of a real experience she had meeting a 'soul' in the streets of Colombia. While "Gotas de perdon" asks you: Where is the world leading to? What is happening around us? She calls for reflection and understanding.

Soraya don't lose the muse you've found. Let's hope this release will later on see the light as an English album. The way she has done with all her previous efforts.

Heaven has a new angel, our beloved Soraya is gone........2006-05-11

Soraya is and will always be one of the most talented Latin singers of our time. Grammy award winner and multi-talented singer/songwriter. She has lost her battle to cancer, but never lost her battle to live. In her short life she was a spokeswoman for early detection of breast cancer. She made it her life's goal to inform all women, especially hispanic women to have regular mammograms. For her life's work, her talent, and her many amazing songs, Soraya will forever live in the many lives she touched.

This her first CD is one of her best. I highly recommend it. Especially the haunting last track Pueblito Viejo. A very melancoly song that transends you back in time, to a place where all was peace and harmony. A beautiful song, in a well balanced CD. Long live Soraya.

It's already been said..........2003-09-18

..but here it is again: This cd is BEAUTIFUL!!! The lyrics, the voice, the instrumentation, the feelings they evoke...all the songs are great, but especially outstanding, IMHO, are 'Love in Your Eys', 'Avalanche', 'Calm Before the Storm' and the title track 'On Nights Like This'. I think I may be one of the only ones in Denmark to own this cd, actually I've only heard of ONE besides me so far...a pity. She should be a household-name!

Heart wrenching.......2000-11-30

Soraya's voice reaches inside you and pulls out every emotion. From the first song on the album to her last, she takes you with her as she sings of love, loss, and learning. The title song "On Nights Like This" has the remarkable ability to bring tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I hope she creates more English albums, because I love to listen to the feeling she places in every word. I have bought this CD for dozens of friends and will buy it for dozens more.

Appealing to the Heart.......2000-01-14

I will keep this review short and to the point. I have never heard any other cd that reaches for the heart as this one does. Soraya's words appeal to every emotion and are sung with more passion than the majority of music that is played in this day. Perhaps it is her Latin background that enables her to express such love and feeling.

By itself, the DVD is worth the purchase cost!.......2006-10-30

If you're a fan of Soraya, you probably have all the songs on "Herencia." I believe the only new song on this CD is the remix of "Tu Y Yo." All the other songs were previously released, but there are no songs (different music label) from Soraya's two most recent CDs, "El Otro Lado De Mi" and "Soraya (Casi)". If you're looking for a best of Soraya's earlier songs, the "Gold" CD is a better choice.

I believe there are two editions of "Herencia." The one with the DVD is the DELUXE EDITION. Even if you have all the songs on "Herencia," the CD is worth the cost of buying it for the DVD. There are seven (7) full-length music videos on the DVD. To see a young, beautiful, vibrant, and talented musican in her prime is sad when you know that she recently died of cancer (May 10, 2006). The music video "¿En Donde Estas? is one of my favorite. In that video, Soraya has a very, very short hair cut (highly unusual for a Latina) and she has a weariness in her face and eyes. Since the song is from the "Cuerpo y Alma" CD which was released shortly before she was first diagnosed with breast cancer, one wonders if she was recovering from chemotherapy when she made this video?

The DVD also has a behind the scene documentary in which Soraya talks about herself, her family, her music, her musical influences, the making of her music videos, etc. I especially enjoyed the "live" video clips of Soraya playing in clubs.

I highly recommend this CD/DVD for the DVD. I'm just hoping that her other music videos will be released.

Una colección maravillosa, llena de imagenes........2006-07-05

Antes de retirarse temporalmente de la música debido a que se le detectó cancer de seno, Soraya grabó 3 discos para su compañía disquera. Son sólo estos tres discos los que se ven reflejados en esta colección, ya que cuando volvió, después de un largo proceso de tratamiento, fue en otra compañía disquera que prosiguió su carrera, hasta el final.

Pero esta colección contiene no sólo los sencillos más conocidos, sino también un DVD con los mismos temas.

Canciones como De Repente, Quédate, Lejos de Aquí, Avalancha, Cuerpo y Alma, aparecen tanto en video como en el CD de éxitos.

Adicionalmente, el DVD tiene dos videos promocionales previo al lanzamiento de sus discos "En Esta Noche" y "Cuerpo Y Alma" dónde se mezclan entrevistas, con canciones en concierto, así como segmentos de la producción de sus videos.

El DVD por sí solo es un gran tesoro de colección, y este CD/DVD combo es recomendado para todo aquel que tenga un interés casual en la música de Soraya, porque aquí encontrará sus éxitos más conocidos. Y para los fanáticos dedicados, el DVD es la pieza que hace valiosa la adquisición, porque contiene material que hará recordar, extrañar, y agradecer la contribución artística de Soraya.

AGAINST THE WALL.......2005-07-23

I'm a Soraya fan, but i'm not a crazy dumb who don't have taste speaking of music. And she still have this sweet voice, and "Si Te Vas" "Lejos de Aquí" "El Cruce" and "Será El Final?" are amazing, and beautiful songs...Anyway i don't feel so good in some tracks as "Dulce Amor" "Es un Amor" and "Paris,Cali,Milan" and "Torre de Marfil" and by the way i hate this one: "Cosas de la Vida", no...this was kind of boring, but the good ones makes this cd worth.

Soraya's inner vocies singing for her on this album.......1999-02-04

After breifly listening to her first album "En esta noche" (On this Night), it is quite clear that she puts more passion into her latest album. From the simple song of "Si Te Vas" (If you go), to the more complez "Mi Dolor" (My Pain), she weaves her ideas and inner being into every song she sings. Her music is very reminiscent of Carole King, while her voice can mimick Celine Dion (smooth)or Dolores Ordian of the Cranberries (rough and changing). Throughout "Torre de Marfil" (Ivory Tower) one understands how much pain and sufferinf she has gone through. One also finds-Razon para creer- (A reason to believe) in themselves and fight for another chance in life; or for over coming personal loss. Viva Soraya (Long live Soraya)!!

A real musical discovery!.......1998-09-28

Firstly, Soraya has a beautiful voice. Secondly, her songs have an enchanting rhythm. And thirdly, the lyrics are beautiful in their melancholy. Discovering it by chance in Costa Rica, I am now completely addicted to this CD. Another reason to improve my behold of Spanish.

Soraya is a talented and compelling vocalist.......1998-09-19

Beyond a distinct voice, Soraya has songs on themes that are dear to her. Her new album "Torre De Marfil" shows this, however her fist album is more compelling.

To illustrate this, one just needs to look specifically at the song "En Esta Noche", written about her mother that passed away.

Personally, Soraya has touched my heart by her song "Razon Para Creer". For nearly six years I had thought about becoming a priest for the Catholic Church. This year after graduating from college in 1996 and working 2 years for a Fortune 500 company, I resigned to follow my heart, and my faith. Through thought, reflection, prayer, and partly listening to the song, "Razon Para Creer", I found my true vocation.

I am not awe-stricken by "stars", however, Soraya is one of three people I would like to meet to thank for making a positive impact people's life. The other two by the way are Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich.

Soraya, keep up the good work!

This is album is great. Soraya's vocal range can be very sweet to rugged. She reminds a little bit of another Colombian artist, Shakira. It ranges from ballads to folk dance tracks.

I love this cd, soraya is an amazing singer. I was shock when i heard the song "CUERPO Y ALMA"/"I'M YOURS"...After that i buy it this cd and i'm so happy cuz' here i found a versatile group of songs as "La Misma Historia" " Half" "Despues de Amar Así" "Cuerpo y Alma" and my favourite personal "Algo Tan Mío".
Her best Cd. Now i'm her fan number one.

genuine and fresh.......2003-08-24

This is the most "rock" of Soraya's work, only a few tracks have clearly traditional latin motifs. The musicians are fine and the production gives it a warm clarity that sounds really good turned up loud where it reaches out and surrounds you. Soraya's voice can range from rough to sweet, and carries versatile emotions in either Spanish or English (this album is about 1/3 English). Every track is different in feel. A range and ability rather like Bonnie Raitt, not quite as pretty as Mary Black - but if you like genuine artists like those you will like Soraya too. I'm disappointed that the shops only have this in the Latin or Foreign sections, Soraya is accessible to a wide audience.

Body & Soul.......2003-01-31

Soraya definately lives up to my expectations with every cd she releases. "Cuerpo Y Alma" is her third release, like her previous cd, Soraya keeps innovating her music, yet she continues to amaze with her beautifully written songs and touching music. A first for Soraya, here she added four tracks in English: Half, When Did I Say That?, Need To Be Found, and Dance Of The Waiting. A Fifth, titled "You And I" is a Spanish song, "You And I" being the only phrase sung in English. Due to this, I believe, Soraya did not release an English version of this cd as she did with her first two cds. However, the English songs are amazing, "When Did I Say That?" is a fun song to listen to, and "Need To Be Found" is exceptional. "Amigo Mio," "Despues De Amar Asi," "Tu Amor, Mi Amor" and "En Donde Estas?" are those songs that trademark Soraya's style. Along with "Need To Be Found" these songs are those that you may find yourself repeating when you're feeling nostalgic. Soraya is a real talent, unlike some other so-called mainstream Columbian "diva." Soraya is one reason why I don't care for such awards as the grammys, real talent is always left out. Unfortunately Soraya wasn't able to promote "Cuerpo Y Alma," a few months after this cd was released she was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, as of today she is working on her next project, to be released in a couple of months. Truly, Soraya is an artist that gives her body and soul to every project she works on.

Buy it for the Sound Quality.......2002-04-19

Although I'm not a big fan of Soraya, I was blown away by the quality of this recording. I listen to my CD's with Etymotic earphones which, while produce the most accurate reproductions, will bring out the flaws of most recordings from Madonna to GRP collection artists. Such recordings tend to overmix so they sound better in most audio systems, but then lose the original balance of the various instruments-- highs are too bright, lows are mushy and voices get lost amongst the noise. Yuck!

But NOT the case with this album. I listen to it over and over again for the absolute crisp notes, sharp punchy bass, excellent balance and Soraya's voice so clear and pure you can almost kiss her (okay not quite that close!).

Amazing stuff!

I really love Soraya's voice no matter what she is singing. The songs on this album are upbeat and fun, even if I don't understand what she's singing quite often.

Speaking only english I'm somewhat handicapped at interpreting her meaning, but quite able to spot a glorious voice when I hear it.

I don't buy too many non english albums but I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything of hers...

I like her stuff as much as Marisa Monte's, which is saying something... Two great singers I wish would work together...

An Excellent Sample of Soraya's Best! .......2006-05-14

I only have three of Soraya's CDs - "En Esta Noche," "Soraya," & "El Otro Lado De Mi." The "Gold" CD helped fill me in on some of her better earlier songs. Now I want to buy all of her earlier CDs.

The voice and passion that you hear from this woman is incredible. Since she really bares her soul and emotions to you in her songs, I was totally stunned and sadden when I learned of her death. I felt as if a friend had died. Her songs, however, will live forever.

This CD does not have any songs from her most recent CD "El Otro Lado De Mi."
