Spanish rock singer Miguel Bose ventures into electronica/dance territory on this 14-track collection, which also comes with a DVD of 13 videos. He co-wrote all the tracks with Antonio Cortes. Bose blends the Human League's synth-pop melodies with Depeche Mode's cold detachment, especially on songs like "Hey Max," whose bilingual lyrics describe a wierd aloofness of the soul. As a singer, Bose's raspy vocals evoke a world weariness, especially on the tunes about desolation and solitude. It fits in well with the CD's heavy emphasis on synthesizers and programming. But Bose gets romantic on "Celeste Amor," where he seeks an understanding beyond the flesh. --Ramiro Burr

Sublimmmmmme.......2006-09-10
Daring and absolutely provocative Velvetina confirm us how absurd our world is made these days, its leaders and their evil agendas. Effectively and in a very sutil way Miguel says NO to Mr. Bush's war party targetting topics like ethnic and sexual discrimination ( hey MAX ¿Quien es MAX?, Viene Sam Viene Sam corre aprisa huye MAX..,Ójala Ójala... que la paz que la paz sia pradva, Da tu voz YA...,) and of course his most basic and complex topic LOVE... and it's torrid and painfull universe.
Velvetina's Iconography draw us a wide variety of beauifull images of US, seeing and considered as one of the most deep selfportraits of Miguel, the videos are incredibly done, every frame is presented carefully and with the unique and distintive view of Bose's... Nothing is free-delivered .. the photography is sublime and the lyrics neVer fall into that MTV formula that seems to work for certain artists: the image is parasite of text and viceversa...
Velvetinas grandiosity is simple and once again Miguel remind us the beautifull "verde canalla" that he is and always be...
This is for you Miguel in my lonely days, miles away from you...
si no has escuchado "velvetina" no has escuchado nada en espaýol!!!.......2006-04-07
Almost a masterpiece.......2005-11-08
Bose is in good voice, the melodies are great and the lyrics thoughtful. The electronics may prove to a be a bit trendy in future years but they're never cloying or schtick.
If you have the choice, spring for the DVDs, too.
Did not like it!!.......2005-10-16
I read the reviews on Amazon and was looking forward to receiving the CD.
I have to admit I was very dissapointed with this CD: Velvetina! I thought if I listened to it again; it would get better (it would grow on me), well, it hasn't... don't know what to make of the lyrics and music. Hard to follow; hard to understand, painful to listen to; etc. etc.
I guess I have one questions for Miguel Bose...What were you thinking?!!!
This doesn't mean I am not still a fan.. I will wait for the next one to see if it is any better!!
me sorprendio este CD.......2005-05-26
Para mi realmente aunque nunca haya valorado el trabajo de Bose como algo tan serio ,esta vez me quito el sombrero frente a usted ,tiene todo mi admiracion y respeto por tan profesional trabajo .
