Her love affair with Mexico.......2007-01-22

The late Spanish songstress Rocio Ducal loved Mexico and this is her final love song to Mexico. I look at it as her final gift to Mexico and the world. When this was released I played it non-stop and of late enjoy it frequently on the I-Pod rotation. It is sublime. The arrangements are first class and deserving of a classy woman. Her voice is crytaline and filled with heart felt emotion. This is not really typical mariachi music, which is best associated with rancheras, but rather Rocio's own special interpretations coupled with fancy, elegant arrangements only fitting for a Spanish diva. Check out "Amaneci en tus Brazos", penned by Jose Alfredo Jimenez, to see the mixture of the traditional style of mariachi and orchestration as an example. Ditto for " La Media vuelta." The songs are just lovely. Her interpretation of "Cucurucucu Paloma" is the perfect vechicle to show off Rocio's vocal range (she really hits the high notes)and depth coupled with folkloric yet modern orchestra arrangements. Sadly, she is gone from this world. If you listen to the love song "Si Dios me quita la vida"(If God takes my life)as she sings about one lover leaving before another , there is a melancholoy flavor to the song that is even sadder now that she is gone. Not one to dwell on her own mortality(she knew she was dying)and be sad , she wanted to rejoice in life . In this her final gift to Mexico and the world, rejoice in her life and enjoy the music she has left us. Highly recommended.

IT IS SUCH A GREAT LOSS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, SHE WAS TRULY ONE OF A KIND. EACH SONG IS BEAUTIFULLY SUNG AND THE MUSIC IS EXCELLENT. I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO AND IT IS STILL IN MY CD PLAYER. YOU CAN REALLY DRINK AND PARTY TO THIS ALBUM. IT HAS VERY MELODRAMATIC, SAD SONGS AND LOVE SONGS, AND HAPPY SONGS. THIS IS WHAT RANCHERA CDS ARE MADE OF. IF YOU NEVER OWNED AN ALBUM OF HERS THIS IS THE ONE TO GET. I BOUGHTTHIS ALBUM AS GIFTS TO MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND EVERYONE LOVES IT.

Another Gem In her Collection.......2005-02-21

No matter what this fabulous woman sings she sounds absolutely wonderful. Her voice isn't what it once was, but come on, she is like 60. Anyway this album is worth buying because Rocios' interpretations are always her own and that silver voice still carries feeling like only few can carry it. Old fans don't need a reccomendation but new fans do, so go out to buy the album. Seriously you won't regret your purchase.Ciao Dolls!!!

This is a very good CD performed by a first-rate bandoneon player and excellent musician and scholar. This uruguayan bandoneon player has traveled around the world with his wonderful interpretations and this CD is a perfect opportunity to enjoy Marino Rivero's art and to learn about uruguayan music as well as to listen to his special instrument which was acquired in 1930 and maintainted exactly as it came from the factory in Germany.

I attended one of Marino Rivero's recitals in Punta del Este, Uruguay and whether interpreting Bach or a piece of uruguayan tango, he always shows off as a first- rate artist. All his CDs are highly recommendable.

Romantic Chente.......2007-03-23

This disc features Chente delivering a nice crop of love songs. The theme is love both present and past, found and lost. There is a certain melancholy ring to these songs. If you are familiar with these songs you will probably appreciate Chente's versions. Beginning with the bolero, "Motivos" the romantic table is set, turn down the lights and enjoy the company of that special someone. Especially tasty numbers include "Esclavo de Amor" that features a beautiful Chente voice in different ranges, the romantic "Motivos" that features nice string and horn arrangements,the soft yet strong "Aquella Edad" where Chente gets so emotional he sounds like he's going to cry and the best song featured here "Vagabundo" made famous by Javier Solis, takes no second place to Javier Solis as Chente demonstrates his fine pipes can be toned down for exceptional music even with his gritos thrown in. This is a good collection of Chente music that fits into the bolero mold or as they are known, ballads. Recommended for romantic nights. La Musica es Cultura(The music is culture).

Good but not great..........2003-01-07

There really isn't much wrong with this CD. The performance by Vicente is strong and the music is very well played. It's just the songs are not as good as most of Chente's work. They just don't have hooks to pull you into the listening.
I did enjoy "Motivos" and "Vagabundo" will definately keep your toe tapping. But overall this is not his greatest, and it is the rest of his vast collection of outstanding recordings against which I compare this. Motivos has it's moments but falls short by "El Rey" standards.
