In the '90s singer Juan Gabriel emerged as Mexico's finest living songwriter of the folkloric genre, specifically, the ranchera. The ultimate master is still the late José Alfredo Jimenez. Here Gabriel delivers another two-CD set of his live performances, very similar to his 1990 En el Palacio de Bellas Artes. The differences: six fewer songs and fewer of his earlier hits like "Hasta Que Te Conoci." Still Gabriel manages to connect with his irrepressible charm and a great cast that includes top string and horn players. Repeat-button faves include his classic "Costumbres" and, of course, his "Amor Eterno," perhaps the most eloquent ode to a lost love. "Amor Eterno" has been covered handsomely by the likes of Rocio Durcal and Vicente Fernandez, and in Gabriel's hands here, it is transformed into a solemn prayer. --Ramiro Burr

From his wonderful lyrics that explain the soul,the heart, life, and love. To his wonderful live beats, his music, his romantic ballads and ends it all with old fashion strong mariachi music! Every song I sing in the shower, on the train, even in my sleep. When I have a bad day I pop in this cd and somehow this music is my medicine. This cd is simply one of the best of my favorite all-time Mexico's greatest composer el Senor JUAN GABRIEL!!! This cd moves the spirit and soul!

"Celebrando 25 Anos de Juan Gabriel . . ." exemplifies Juan Gabriel's outstanding talent. The only thing that's better is his video of the same title. Gabriel is absolutely electric before an audience. His upbeat tunes with snappy background vocals are nothing short of thrilling. The melancholy songs, especially those with Mariachi, are heart-breaking. All of the music is fresh, even "No Tengo Dinero," the song that started him on the road to legendary status 30 years ago. His voice becomes a little hoarse during the last couple numbers making "Te Recuerdo Dulcemente," the closing song, sound delightfully mournful. This live performance is Gabriel's finest work. Ever.
