A.B. Quintanilla III wants to have it both ways. The writer, producer, and brother of murdered Tejano goddess Selena has split the sophomore album from his band Los Kumbia Kings into English and Spanish halves. There's no strong connection between the two collections of songs, but
Shhh! is still an enjoyable enough listen. Much like he did with the music of Selena, Quintanilla infuses the album's cumbia rhythms with pop, hip-hop, and R&B elements. By now, though, the trick has become a bit predictable. Songs such as "Me Enamoré" and "Me Estoy Muriendo" could easily be switched with any of the tracks on the Kumbia Kings' first album,
Amor, Familia y Respeto. Better are
Shhh!'s English-language tracks, which showcase a genuine hip-hop sensibility. It's easy to imagine acts such as Next or Sisqo crooning gems such as "Say It (a Million Times)," "Think'n About U," and the Rodney Jerkins-esque "In Da Zone." If they pursue that route, Quintanilla may find himself basking in the crossover success sister Selena never had a chance to enjoy.

Given his turn into kinder, gentler movie roles, longtime fans of former SNL star Sandler's pubescent potty humor should welcome this long-overdue collection of sketches and musical parodies. "Low-brow" doesn't quite do the album's relentlessly puerile, if impressively loopy, bent justice; with an orbit that rarely strays much below mid-thigh or above the beltline, it's arguably the most crotch-centric album of the comedian's career. While at least one of the recurring characters (clueless octogenarian daredevil Mr. Pibb) quickly wears thin, bits like "Wolfman" and "Calling Home" triumph by pushing familial dysfunction to surreal extremes--and then some. While none quite match the charming insouciance of "The Chanukah Song," the musical numbers here are often the main attraction, from the mock Brit-punk self-love anthem "The Amazing Willy Wanker" and "The Mayor of Pussytown" (a hip-hop boast-fest to underendowment of every stripe) to "Stan the Man," Sandler's bittersweet ode to his late father. Longtime collaborator Alan Covert is again featured, as are cameos by fellow SNL alums Molly Shannon, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, whose chemistry with Sandler provides some of the album's most sublime silliness. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Shhh ...Don't Tell offers edgy new characters with 12 skits and seven hilarious new songs - definitely Parental Advisory material - from today's most popular movie comedy star Shhh ...Don't Tell is Sandler's fifth album, after two double platinums and two golds. Shhh ...Don't Tell Screw that, this is funny stuff - tell everybody!

this is his newest gig and it is just as good as the other ones
3 and a half stars.......2006-06-22
I wish amazon would allow you to give half stars, because this album is better than a three but not quite a four. The stuff that works is really funny, but unfortunately the stuff that doesn't work really stinks. Rob Schneider is hilarious in "Whore! Where are you!" playing a wanna be tough guy (of undefined ethnicity) who is actually a p-whipped wuss. You may have heard "Gay Robot" which is amusing in a crude, semi-homophobic way. "Sid & Alex" is funny because of the delivery and the sheer peculiarity of it. As far as the songs go, "The Mayor of Pussytown" is a hilarious send up of gangsta rap with a twist, and "Secret" is funny for its absurdly inane chorus. However, much of the rest of the album is uninspired and only mildly amusing, and strangely enough most of the funniest moments come from contributing players and not Sandler himself. If you're a big fan of Sandler's comedy then don't hesitate to pick this up, but "caveat emptor" to all others.
MMMMmmmm?.......2006-06-05
This is a pretty good album from the sand man. But defintley
not his best. There's some dumb skits, and most of the
songs stink. " Best friend," by far being the worst. " The
amazing willy wanker," is good. It is about his penis. Then
" Mule session," is not bad, but it never seems to end.
Sandler sings about marriage on the naughty, " Mr I do
and the doo doo's." Even the supposed tribute to his dad
is a little demented. [ Now your in heaven...you can
bone marilyn monroe. Mom says it's alright.] " stan the
man." The skits. Ah, yes the skits. All the recurring
pibb skits are just plain awful and not funny. The "hot
rocks" one is just plain disgusting. If we're talking about
sick, " the boss and the secretary," is good, but is
really gross. The sickest sandler skit to date. David
spade makes a short but forgetable appearance in the
un-funny as sin, " Timmy tinyhole." I think the best skits
are, " Whore! Where are you?" With Rob Schnider and adam's
real life wife, " Newlyweds, sleepyheads," with Molly
shannon is also great, " Gay robot," is hillarious but
pretty sick, and " calling home" is good. Plus the short,
" Creepin' on the mayor." Adam quotes, " This album is
probably the one I've cursed the most on. Will I let my
kid listen to it? That's another story."
Some good, some terrible.......2006-01-30
I can't stand Adam Sandler's movies but his albums have always been consistently funny. This is the most inconsistently funny album he's ever produced. A few of the laugh out loud skits include "Gay Robot", "Sid and Alex" and "Calling Home"; the charcters in the latter skit seem to be all played by Sandler and his voices and lines are gut-bustingly funny. And "Gay Robot" is just plain hilarious. Of course, this has its fair share of singing from Sandler and "Secret" is, by far, the funniest. Unfortunately, most of the rest of these skits are so tired and boring that you have to wonder if Sandler hasn't hit a wall as far as his album creativity goes. "Wolfman" is SO painfully unfunny that you just end up squirming uncomfortably waiting for something remotely amusing to materialize. And the Pibb skits, his latest recurring character, are just dumb and flat. Some skits even reach the realm of irritating such as "Creepin' On The Mayor" which involves a character hiding in a garbage can from people who want to beat him up. That's it. Wow, that's funny.
You're better off focusing on just five or six tracks and ditching the rest (Sid and Alex, Gay Robot, Secret, Boss and the Secretary, Mule Session, Newlyweds-Sleepyheads, and Calling Home should do it for you).
Oh, and a quick response to all of the people who are obsessed with this album being "dirty". Have you people been asleep for the past 13 years?? That's what makes a Sandler album is his filthy and lewd talk! Sandler's funniest bits are the dirty ones and it's always been that way!
Inexcusible.......2005-09-14
This is garbage, any way you sniff it. I was a big fan of his earlier CDs but if you're looking for laughs here there are only about three of them. This CD reminds me of Adam Sandler's movie career in regards to how his movies are getting continually worse. This, however, ups the ante; there are no redeeming qualities about this CD at all. I can't be emphatic enough to potential buyers: don't. It's very, very bad. It's the culmination of his tired humour, which seems to get worse as the years go by, combined with clearly very little effort put in here. I'd be surprised if he spent more than a lazy week completing it from start to end.

Shhh and its songs.......2007-05-07
the Shhh sessions from Chumbawamba are awesome! Shhh gives you great rock music and great chants to shout and sing along to. it features just about any type of rock music put into one album, each song never takes a break and keeps you dancing until they tell you "Shhh" at the end! LOL
Chumbawamba wrote it , must be worth it.......2006-06-25
Chumbawamba has a great sound and taste in music, Shhh is a great album with fun beats and serious yet enjoyable tracks, you don't have to compare their other work to judge this album, Shhh is an album Chumbawamba produced, they took their time to put out a record people should listen to, this album contains great lyrics and has sweet music , if you are open to any kind of music, Shhh is an album that contains sweet music, Even though i'm a nobody, I loved this album, you should give this CD a try.
Average Chumbawamba CD.......2003-11-21
Just average, not one of their best.
Anarchy, WYSIWYG, Tubthumper and Readymades are much better. I like Chumbawamba's music a lot and I kept listening to all of them the last few months. I've recently bought Shhh and I think I could easily forget about it.
Not bad but you won't miss anything by not listening to it.
Without doubt an outstanding album of pure brilliance........2003-06-23
As far back as I can remember, I have had much respect for this more than talented band. Great friends of Margaret Thatcher...lol... they have trawled through the eighties and of course up to the present day, masters of political and religious ridicule which is heavily present in each of there many albums. Shhh is no exception. The music is a mix of classic punk distorted guitar played with great tradition of the late seventies, catchy flowing keyboards, bass and drums in perfect unison, all wrapped up with those lyrics that make the most hardened capitalists squirm... Believe me, this album is a must for anybodies collection, and if you have not had the pleasure of sampling this most under rated band of all time, this album is the one I reccomend you start with... and if you ever get chance to see them live, well, I suppose thats another review... and experience...

This is one cd of less than 5 cd's that I still own. You'll want to dance and then reminisce during the ballads. I Really like all the songs except 2 that were less than great:Boom Boom and In Da Zone. If you're a big Kumbia King's fan you have to have this cd!
Like always, they deliver their best work!.......2002-10-14
I love the Kumbia Kings. If you're a big fan of their first album you will most definitely love this second album of theirs. They put a new twist on the genre of Cumbia, integrating freestyle and hip-hop with their songs. Also, they sing some pretty love ballads in English. It's a great, long CD with different styles of songs. Check it out - you won't regret it!
an incredible album!!!.......2002-05-04
i remember running to the radio the first time i heard "BOOM BOOM", it was crazy! it had cumbia, rap, the trademark bird and even elements of john lee hooker it seemed. i knew AB had done it again. the sophmore jinx was blown out the box with this release. after i bought the album - it was like finding a pot of gold. "SSH" was even crazier! "Me Enamore" i never stop playing, the english songs are tight, and they even included 5 acts of comedy & a couple of remixes. with a lot of artists releasing albums with 2 hits & the rest fillers - AB truly wanted to give back to his fans. he did that & more!
the first album is a Classic, this one is Legendary!!! GO OUT AND GET IT!
...
SHHH! Is The Album You Have To Buy!!!!.......2002-04-25
I've been living in Corpus Christi, Tx (Kumbia Kings hometown) for a little over 10 years. This is one of the best tejano band I have ever heard. SHHH! is one album you have to add to your collection. These guys are way to hot to pass up!!!!
My Kings are Kicking As.........2002-03-17
To know when a group is good, you have to look at three important things. *Music *Sales *Style, and the KK have that and more.
These cd is HOTTTT, I have to tell you when you listen to a cd over and over and over that means is great, the music is fanstastic and the lyrics are fenomenal , NO WONDER THEY HAVE SOLD MORE THAN A MILLION COPIES :D :D
So SHHH! You better buy this before they run of of copies.

This is just my opinion and I hope I'm not offending anybody, but this song sucks! It's too slow and it never picks up. It gave me the worst headache I've had in a while. Shae's voice drives me up the wall!!! They shouldn't charge money for this. Good luck in the future, Shae. I'm sure you can do better, so learn from this mistake.

He's Done it Again, A Project Full of Great Music.......1999-08-24
Shhhh - (Song: Quiet Times) A gentle reminder from God that he enjoys spending time with us. This one really spoke to my soul. What better way to start your day than with a prayer of thanksgiving (or a beautifully written song of just that subject). No Other Word for Grace - I fell in love with this song back in the 80's. I heard it by Gold City before I knew it was a Kirk original. In the Shadow goes hand in hand with one of my all time favorite scriptures: Psalms 91:1-4. Another award winning project. Keep up the good work Kirk.
Another great CD from a great Singer.......1999-01-11
This album gives a great overview of the real Kirk Talley. Kirk Talley the former tenor for the Cathedral Quartet, and member of his family group, The Talleys, has won numerous Dove Awards for his songwriting, and this album continues that tradition with many of the songs written by Kirk Talley. This is a must for any Southern Gospel Fan. Order it today
