This Exclusive Spanish Edition features the Songs "Cosas Imposibles", "tu Cicatriz En Mi", "Artefacto", "Sulky", "Camuflaje", "Karaoke (Capri Remix) and "Casa (Leandro Freso plus Gus Remix)". Includes a Bonus Dvd (Pal/Rc-2) with his Best Videos, Live Performances and Orchestral Interpretations of Songs Orginally Recorded by Soda Stereo.
1- This is not a greatest hits collection, but a "mix tape" of Cerati's work.
2- The DVD and the CD are NOT two different, separate things. You can think of both as being complimentary of each other. Songs you won't find in one cd, you'll listen/see in the other.
Cerati clearly strives for a cohesiveness that is hard to find in an anthology: he either includes songs that are nice but not his best to make the album flow (Casa and Amo Dejarte Asi come to mind), or he chooses different versions of the originals (Fantasma and Tu Cicatriz en Mi, the latter an amazing rock remix).
The DVD is in chronological order, except for the last two songs, which are live versions of Soda Stereo's songs (including one of his best creations, Cancion Animal).
Tu Locura, the only new song, is presented in a slightly different way from the original version (which was spread solely over the net and heard on an argentinean series) so that it was more electronic and less singer/guitar.
This is another triumph for Gustavo, simply because the album manages to create a personality of its own. It is an obvious good intro for new fans (not casual listeners, fans), but most of all it is a great mix for people who know Cerati's work and want to recreate his whole history in a couple of hours.
I could understand if you're a first time listener and expect to hear the most popular, not the best, but most popular songs of Cerati and being disappointed. If you're already a fan and complaining, why? It should be assumed that you already have Cerati's whole music collection. I personally bought this for the dvd, because it is extremely rare to be able to see videos or live performances by really talented artists in the U.S. just because they're not all over the place. Seeing these videos for the first time is like making another great discovery from the talented Cerati.
A must have for Cerati fans; and a great intro for new fans who want to savor Cerati's different style.
The Album
17 tracks from his discography and a new song. `Tu locura' presents the classical Cerati we all know, with interesting and well written lyrics and a nice mixture of electronic sounds with his acoustic guitar. Some of his best songs as a solo artist can be found here, themes like `Paseo inmoral', `Pulsar', `Amor amarillo', `Puente', `Amo dejarte asi', `Lisa' and `No te creo'. The only problem with the selection I believe is that the album `Reversiones' was considered for this compilation, so we have the revised versions of `Fantasma' and `Tu cicatriz en mi', that might not be that bad but aren't definitely better than the original versions. Overall, the 18 tracks are a good testimony of Gustavo's solo career and of his musical knowledge and inventive.
The DVD
A very nice bonus if you consider that most artists decide to release their videos in a DVD apart. In this case we have a greatest hits album and the complete videos that promoted them. Unlike the audio CD, '11 episodios sinfonicos' is present in this video collection, if you do not have that DVD, the symphonic versions of `Cancion animal' and `Corazon delator' are here, as well as a live video of `Artefacto'. If you haven't had the chance of seeing Cerati's videos this is a great opportunity to do so, the visuals that accompany his musical pieces are a perfect macth, see for example `Yo te llevo para que me lleves' and you will know what I'm talking about.
Even though I believe `Colores Santos' should have been considered for this album and that the revised versions from `Reversiones' may affect a little the general feeling and idea behind the album, Gustavo delivers a nice compilation of the themes that have made him the musical genius he is considered nowadays, and the bonus DVD is an extra excuse to buy it if you already owns his albums. No lyrics or booklet are included but as usual, the graphic design of the package compensates the lack of those two.
