Todo Seru es genial.......2003-04-07

Con ciertas bandas y artistas resulta extremadamente difícil recomendar uno u otro trabajo. Serú Girán, la tercera banda que tuvo el genio musical Argentino Charly García (teclado, voz y otros) junto al maestro Pedro Aznar (bajo, voz y otros), David Lebón (guitarra y voces) y Oscar Moro (batería), es uno de esos casos. "Grasa de las capitales" contiene el tema que le da nombre al álbum, que posiblemente sea capaz de resumir la quintaesencia de la banda como ningún otro, pero es un crimen musical dejar por fuera, como secundarios, excelentes trabajos como el primer álbum de la banda ("Serú Girán"), "Bicicleta" o "Peperina". Sin duda alguna, recomiendo cualquier trabajo de la banda, sin temor a equivocarme. Se trata de uno de esos raros ensambles que reúne a varios genios, y cuyo resultado no puede ser otro sino una serie de increibles álbumes de muy buena música.

El mejor de Serú Girán.......2002-05-04

Tengo que decir que este es uno de los mejores trabajos del "Dios del Rock Argentino" Charly García. Serú Girán fue uno de sus más importantes proyectos, uno con exelentes músicos, que trascendió fenomenalmente en el mundo del Rock. Todos los temas son espectaculares encabezados en su mayoría por la bella voz de David Lebón.

Great album, one of the best in latin rock..........2002-04-05

I suppose this album fits under a number of genres such as rock,
prog-rock, fusion or pop-fusion but no matter where you put it
it will shine as a really great album, perhaps the only album to
really live up to Seru Giran's towering reputation as "The
Argentine Beatles".

What makes this CD so good? The songwriting is amazing, all the
tunes are put together flawlessly, great chord changes and some
very introspective lyrics. The playing is top notch, featuring
Pedro Aznar's gorgeous fretless bass, Charly Garcia's rocking
synthesizer and piano lines, Oscar Moro's amazing sense of time
and feel and David Lebon's great guitar playing on most every
track. You get the sensation the band is "on" all the time
without ever getting the impression they're just noodling around.

Stand-out tracks (for me of course) are "La Grasa..." with it's
somewhat Zappa-esque sense of humor and fast-paced playing,
"Perro Andaluz", a great bittersweet lovesong, "Noche De Perros"
with Pedro's almost liquid sense of phrasing adorning every bar
with beautiful fretless melodies and of course, the argentinian
rock standard "Viernes 3 A.M.", a tearjerker which will probably
take a while to leave your mind.

Perhaps the only track I don't like is "Los Sobrevivientes", but
listening to the album all the way through you barely even feel
the song. I suppose Charly's high-pitched voice and the language
barrier might stop some people from enjoying this CD as much as
I do, but anyone with an appreciation for great playing (bassists
especially) and good songwriting will probably get a lot out of
this argentinian classic. Essential.

A CLASSIC BY A LEGENDARY BAND.......2002-02-07

For those wondering about the long title, this is actually simply called La Grasa De Las Capitales, and it is a CD by the legendary Argentine band Seru Giran, led by flamboyant, the incredibly talented Charly Garcia, probably the best and most famous modern musician in Latin America. The title for both the CD and the last song in it means Grease of the Capitals, a reference to the Travolta movie "Grease".
At the time this great work was recorded, the songs from the movie and Disco music in general were saturating Latin American radio. Charly and his band made this amazing song that managed to compile Choral music, Rock, a bit of South American folklore, and a even a parody of Disco as a witty and timely criticism on commercial pop. Nevertheless, the rest of the songs are also outstanding. The acoustic ballad "San Francisco y el Lobo", a take on the history of Saint Francis of Asissi, for example, is perfectly rendered by David Lebon, the lead guitarist, with a mixture of heartbreaking beauty and vocal dexterity. Pedro Aznar bass lines give ample evidence of his talent, which also shone in his work with Path Metheny group. Drummer Oscar Moro, a veteran of the Argentinian Rock scene, boasts not only technique to burn but also an uncommon passionate sensitivity. All the albums by Seru Giran, by the way, deserve to be in the collection of anyone interested in quality music in any language.
For non-Spanish speakers it is worth learning Spanish just to enjoy it, but even if you don't understand the words it is still worth listening to. A marvel.

Que puedo decir...uno de los mejores albumes de rock argentino de los 80,un poco incomprendido en su momento,como toda obra de arte.La armonia y la quimica que lograban sus integrantes cuando tocaban se ha visto muy pocas veces,al igual que las letras,cargadas de ironia y realismo (tipico de Charly Garcia).Este disco no puede faltar en una coleccion de rock argentino.Muy recomendable,al igual que el resto de los discos de Seru Giran.

No tengo palabras para describir este album. Lo unico que les puedo decir es que no puede dejar de escucharlo. A Seru Giran se los llamaba en su pais "Los Beatles argentinos" y la verdad es que no estaban muy equivocados. Tanto la parte vocal como la instrumental (ni hablar de las letras de las canciones) son extraordinarias. Aguante Charly!!!!!

Charly Garcia es un compositor extraordinario y este CD en particular es el mejor de toda su obra. Seru Giran es el mejor grupo de Rock argentino y eso se refleja en este compac. Grasa de las capitales es un album que refleja la soledad y la angustia del ser humano, con canciones sumamentes oscuras.

charlie es lo máximo en lo referente a la música latinoamericana con raíces en el rock y el pop. Todo su trabajo desde sui generis hasta hoy (hoy, para mi, llega sólo hasta "say no more")es una muestra de la genialidad de este músico. Deberían escuchar obras como: "pubis angelical" y "terapia intensiva", son muy grossos.

Charly at the height of his powers.......1999-03-09

Undoubtedly, this is charly at his best. The quality of the compositions coupled with the quality of his sidemen produced a band with a sound that was and is still unique, fuelled by endless external influences and yet profoundly personal. This record represents a milestone in argentine rock music and is an example of one of Charly's most creative moments. It would be wonderful if someone would remaster it better!

The great Argentine artist and his former band deliver great music for the heart and soul. Songs like "Viernes 3 AM", and "Noche De Perros" add that wonderful nostalgic feeling. Beautifully performed and arranged, a CD that should be in every Garcia`s music collection.

This disc has a very goods themes of Seru Giran, is a collection disc for people that loves Charly's Music. The volume of all disc is very low (that is the reason of four stars), but has the voice and rythm of Charly Garcia in his best times.

Para cualquier persona que gusta de la musica de Charly Garcia, este disco es indispensable. De los mejor de Seru, con el increible bajo de Pedro Aznar e impecable interpretacion de Lebon y Moro. Musica que ya casi no se hace.

Nostalgic, mysterious and soothing all in one, this title is representative of the feelings of buenos Aires youth in the post Malvinas War 80's. David Lebon adds great vocals in Viernes 3AM. San Fransisco y el Lobo is a great ballad about the loss of innocence. Check out other titles by Charlie Garcia and his then band, Seru Giran.
