Jorge Negrete may have been Mexico's first cinematic ranchera hero, but perhaps because of his premature death in 1953, Pedro Infante surpassed him in the number of hit movies and recordings. And like that of Negrete, Infante's fantastic recording output has been constantly released in new compilations. This collection has most of his signature hits, including "Cien Años," a heartbreak tune about being abandoned, and "Paloma Querida," an old standard reinvented by Infante when he sings with cool detachment about love's inspiration. Infante was untrained, his approach was simple but emotive, yet he was talented enough to make unforgettable such other classics as Agustin Lara's "Mujer" and "Amor de Mis Amores," and the uplifting bolero "Amor a la Distancia." Infante died in a plane crash in 1957 but is immortalized in his movies and music. --Ramiro Burr

2 out of 5 stars Wonderful singer, horrible recording.......2003-08-10

I love Pedro Infante. There is noone that can sing like him. That is why when I bought this CD I was truelly dissapointed because it was hard to hear his magnificiant voice. This recording appeared to sound like some took his original LP and put a sheet over the microphone, he sounded so muffled. I truelly love this artist, and becuase of that I realy hated how they rerecorded his songs.

4 out of 5 stars Great Songs by a Great Singer.......2000-10-24

What more can be said about such a great natural voice? The songs are great, but the recording quality is not so sharp on this CD. Needless to say, the songs were not recorded in the studios of today. The lyrics, and voice of Pedro Infante, are a joy to hear and one is tempted to sing along, or just sit and enjoy. (In case the reader is unfamiliar with Pedro Infante, the reader should know all songs are sung in Spanish)

5 out of 5 stars PEDRO INFANTE PURE FEELINGS, LOVE, HAPPINESS AND PEACE.......2000-05-28

I LOVE THE CD CALLED LAS ROMANTICAS DE PEDRO INFANTE, I HAVE NOT FOUND ANOTHER MUSIC FROM ANOTHER ACTOR THAT GIVES ME SO MUCH PLEASURE FEELINGS AND ALL DIFFEREND KINDS OF FEELINGS.THERE ARE NOT WORDS TO EXPLAIN HOW GREAT PEDRO INFANTE WAS AS A MUSICIAN AND AS AN ACTOR. HE IS A LEGENDARY AND HIS MUSIC WOULD BE ALIVE FOREVER AFTER. EVERYTIME I LISTEN TO A NEW SONG FROM PEDRO INFANTE, I EXPERIENCE A NEW FEELING OF PLEASURE AND EXCITEMENT INCOMPARABLE TO NO ONE. I LOOK FORWARD FOR SONGS THAT I HAVE NOT HEARD YET, FOR MY COLLECTION OF PEDRO INFANTE'S MUSIC. THAT IS MY PERSONAL OPINION, WHAT IS YOURS?

4 out of 5 stars Pain and elation, all at once.......2000-01-18

Pedro Infante was one of those rare artists, who can command respect and pity at the same time. His music, his songs are achingly beautiful, and yet to know he died so young is a heartbreaker. Ramiro Burr is right on the money in his bio essay in the "Billboard Guide to Tejano and regional Mexican Music," on Billboard Books: "In the history of Mexican pop culture, there has never been an artist who captured the hearts and minds of Mexicans like the ranchera singer/film actor Pedro Infante." So true and yet, so sad. LaNancy
