For those who love Afro-Cuban music and are familiar with Cacahao's music are going to enjoy this album. The wooden flute sounds great and the percussion makes you feel like moving your body in a slow and natural rhythm similar to those ancient people who loved themselves and whose drums connected them with the heart of our planet. In the song 'Centro San Agustin' you can feel and almost hear the beautiful sounds that come from the peoples heart in a village square. Cachao's music is the epitome of the wonderful culture that was born from centuries of love,hate,war,peace,destruction, forgiveness,passion,and tropical beauty.

"Mood Music" that really works!.......2002-04-15

Not much really needs to be said about this sampler of good work from jazz artists of the '50's and '60's who were in love with the Cuban flavored rhythms and instruments. Lots of percussion here, hand-hit drums and marimbas and such. Listening does two things: First, it is impossible to hear this without becoming happier than you were before you started; second, it is impossible to hear it without becoming, to put it delicately, more romantically passionate than you might have been an hour earlier. Hey, those are pretty nice compliments---perhaps this CD merits a fifth star afterall!

Passionate, exciting, emotive Latin jazz.......2000-03-29

Want to quench your thirst for some sultry Latin stuff? This is a good compilation consisting of fourteen tracks, a little like the best of this, and a little of that one. Joe Torres gets to do it twice on tracks 4 and eleven, which are great jazz tunes by trumpeter Steve Huffsteter. Other representations include: Jack Costanzo, Willie Bobo, Machito & Orchestra, The Jazz Crusaders, Bobby Montez, Kenny Dorham, Charles Kynard & Buddy Collette. Clare Fisher, Art Blakey & Sabu Martinez, as well as Sonny Stitt plus that wonderful conguero Candido, who also gets to do it twice on track eight Long Long Summer, and track twelve, Toccata. Overall a very listenable album, easy on the ears with all songs complementing each other. Very nice selection for setting the mood, as these are all passionate songs. Track thirteen is particularly nice with a good blow from trumpeter Thad Jones. No nasty surprises here where a song or two might be radically different to the rest. Good jazz from a wide range of artists, makes this CD good value for money. Oh yes...the sleeve is crammed full of information and a good breakdown of what's going on by Miles Perlich.

A fantastic album!.......2004-07-29

Tremendous percussion grooves meet Bryan's passionate guitar to create an album that will keep you movin'. And you don't have to be Latino to relate to soulful songs like Obatalá and No me Llores. I also enjoy playing dancy Vamanos P'al Monte and El Sonido in the mornings while I'm getting ready for work; their driving rhythms keep me going all day. This is a cool new band that I truly hope takes off; a mix of nostalgic Latin favorites, a modern rock groove, and plenty of funk is a necessary departure in a time of processed pop.

Not your typical hard rock guitar genius.......2006-04-27

The Good
Although it is short, the opening track "Waiting for Venus" gives you a brief overview of what's to come with its tribal beats and seductive female spoken words. While "Esoterica" establishes Sanders as the virtuoso he claims to be, the soulful vocals of Jean Michele Byron and the keyboard tones of Dave Schulz cannot not be ignored. Sanders displays his funk guitar abilities on the instrumental "One Trick Pony," as well as some frantic guitar runs.

If "Beneath the Sun" was composed to make you imagine your self cruising down the boulevard of your favorite beach community in the summertime, then it accomplished its goal. With its Spanish/English vocals, fuzzy guitar tone, and soft organ tones, "Sons of the Sky" recalls early Santana. Sanders brings more of the funk with some `wicka-wicka' style guitar tone on "Anantia Muscaria." Only this time, Rocklin Thompson kicks in with some powerful vocals.

The Bad

The Verdict
Michael Sanders is not your typical hard rock guitar genius. Combined with One Tribe Nation, Sanders delivers some excellent Latin-inspired rhythms and melodies, and throws in a splattering of enduring and soulful vocals from some of the best well-hidden musical talents.

New Latin Guitarist.......2006-04-21

Being a huge Santana fan I heard about this as the singer for Santana [Andy Vargas] is on this CD. I chekced it out not expecting too much, but I was blown away by not only the guitar work, but the whole musicianship, bass lines, rythms etc. Its refreshing to hear amazing guitar playing with musical brilliance behind it. I would recommend this to Santana fans and fans of guitar based rock or funk. Stand out tracks for me: One Trick Pony and Amigos Del Diablos. Great Stuff! I hope to hear more from Michael and his band in the future.
