Still great salsa!.......2003-02-27

Salsa en la calle 8 '98 is still such a wonderful cd to own if you are looking for a thorough salsa compilation cd. I think it was a great year for salsa in general and whenever I play the cd it reminds me of the artists and songs that were popular at that time. The songs fall under the category of romantic salsa but with a fast tempo. They are definitely all danceable. The most popular songs are: Arrepentida, Bongo (a nightclub favorite), He tratado (a nightclub gem as well) and Juliana (a salsa lover's delight). This edition is better than some of the newer Calle 8 editions, don't let the year fool you, this salsa is still popular among the connoisseurs of this genre and salsa dancers in general. I sincerely recommend this purchase.

What an album!!.......2003-02-18

As a newcomer to the latin amercian/salsa scene i was introduced to this album by a friend. The beats are intoxicating. The album is very well put together. Each track compliments the next. Forget not understanding the language you can feel this album. It takes you away to dance your socks off. With a clever mix of upbeat and slower tracks definatley one for anyones collection!
One of my best buys in ages!! Haven't stopped playing it!

What an album!!.......2003-02-13

As a fairly newcomer to the salsa scene I heard this album from a friend and was so overwhelmed i had to find it. Forget the fact that you may not understand the words, the beats and music are intoxicicating. Each track jumps out and begs you to tap your feet close your eyes and imagine you are somewhere else dancing your socks off.
Don't really have a bad word about this album. Put together well. Each track compliments the previous one making you beg for more. Great if you are a novice like me or a seasoned pro. One definatley for anyones collection.

Still so good to listen to!.......2003-02-17

This is a wonderful edition of the Salsa en la Calle 8 series and is still so nice to listen to if you want to hear relaxing salsa. This is a fine line up of "good pure salsa" from various artists who each have a very unique style. It's a very good mix as well because there is not one song that really dominates over the other. All can be listened to as background music and some are definitely more danceable than others. For example: Anhelo, and Mi Libertad but overall these salsas are for those who wish to listen to this genre rather than dance to it. There is a recording error however. Song # 5 by Tito Rojas is not "Te quedaras conmigo" but rather "Cuando estoy contigo" from his album "Por derecho propio". So if you are expecting the former it is not on this album. Once again this is a great recording. Try to ascertain a copy while you can and most of all enjoy it!

Great 90's salsa for dancing & listening.......2003-04-05

This cd is a great tribute to Salsa in the 90's. Overall there were many great productions by artists who were in their prime and now have slowed down, phased out or are on hiatus. This cd is a great reminder of songs that were popular and even brought fame to an artist. If you were a salsa follower in the 90's this cd could only bring back good memories and if you are new to salsa this cd is a good intro although the music is about eight years old. It starts off with the ever popular Celia Cruz a song "Sazón" from her album "Azucar Negra". As the title states the song is full of "sazón". Some other nice tracks are: Luna negra by Rey Ruiz who has quietly disappeared from the salsa scene, "Hasta que te conoci" which brought fame to Marc Anthony who is now a star that has risen, "Idilio" a nightclub favourite for salsa dancers by Willie Colón and Victor Manuelle's "Estás tocando fuego" -quite a danceable salsa in it's own right. Once again this is a great production by the Salsa en la Calle 8 series and if you want to reminisce a bit buy this edition while you can- you won't regret it.

Better than you realise.......1999-09-22

I'm no authority on salsa music, but I think it's a pretty nice collection of older songs. This cd has enough pizazz to be a good party popper. Salsa is beautiful music, distantly related to African music and anything tropical is fine with me. Yes,I recommend this cd.

Not bad but could've been a better selection of Songs!!.......1999-07-17

Ok, the way I see it--either I'm getting old or Salsa is getting a different sound to it's beat. Those two first cut's should have never made it to the CD itself--come on, Cuba Libre? I really hope to see my Cuban brother's get their freedom but to sing about it ? No doubt that Tito Rojas and Victor Manuelle make this CD kick. Hope to see a "The Best of Salsa en la Calle Ocho" CD in the year 2000.
