Album Description

Heartfelt, moving melodies soar through delicate environmental sounds recorded at the ruins at Chaco Canyon in New Mexico USA, home of the Anasazi, makers of the only known midday solstice marker in North America. The environmental sounds used were digitally recorded by Rusty Crutcher primarily at solstices and equinoxes from 1988 through 1990.

Had the tape for years, but the CD is beyond belief! Wonderful, wonderful music and natural sounds. Very relaxing and interesting at the same time. Rusty Crutcher is a fabulous writer/musician!

Good Music is just that no matter the language...

the first time i saw IKV was in the video Abarajame and they just blew my mind because that was the very first time i was interested in a latin group and i was really feeling them. When i heard the whole album my jaw dropped... Because i was a big fan of Wu Tang 36 Chambers... and i couldn't believe that in South America someone was doing things even better than RZA at the time so well since 1991! That is the first 2 tracks, and if you like Jaguar house then you are a IKV fan.

Illya Style is Latin, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, R&B and rock and even when they have their own style don't expect their other albums sound like this one, chaco is unique and so the other albums.

Another thing, this is not their "Sophomore" effort first album was "Fabrico Cuero - 1991" then "Horno para Calentar los Mares -1993" and their third album: Chaco!


Go ahead and buy chaco from Illya K & the Valderramas. THE BEST LATIN GROUP EVER

I listened to this album back when released. I think this album is definitive in exploring new and different influence with in the "Rock en Español" genera. This album serves as a palette of the eclectic reality of Latin America. Being a Mexican I can really appreciate the balanced and melancholic undertone to this album and the violently expressive tracks. The song "Hermosa from heaven" is the maximum expression of American influences in Latin America; elevating interlingual and intercultural mishap to an art. I truly appreciate this album like a Van Gogh; full of insight and beauty encased in violent texture and melancholic freedom. My appreciation goes out to the realization of this album; you truly captured something unique, of which I think can not be repeated by the Valderramas.

Not just some "melange".......2004-11-01

Some may agree, and others may disagree. To me, is precisely the "melange" of sounds that can be found along the album, in each of it's tracks, what makes it so great.
At this point the argentinian band has reached a certain maturity which allows them to place not just hip-hop, R&B, rap sounds, but also to blend in some soft ballad cuts, such as Hermoza from Heaven or Humeda, bringing some balance to the whole album, not simply limiting themselves to the politically loaded songs (see Hombre Blanco for example); exploring a softer more rithmical side, in which you can really apreciate the quality of their voices. This simply goes to show that band has grown over the years, and started to yield to what may be a more experimental field of work.

This album is very eclectic and is a deep and interesting piece of work. It is true that there are some weak points in the album. However, I would like to comment on the review by Guy Morris of Roanoke, VA who calls it "sorta stupid music." He should not waste his or other people's time by reviewing music that he doesn't understand. Morris admits that he doesn't speak Spanish... so it sounds "sorta stupid" to me that he should be commenting on the content of an Argentine album. In reality, the lyrics are insightful and considerably more political than American music of the similar rock/hip hop genre.

Illya Kuryaki's best.......2002-04-28

Written by children of the Rock en Espanol star, Luis Espinetta, this album questions just about everything you can imagine, but it doesn't stop, like some reviewers say at just being "Argentinian Rap." This is THE best work Illya Kuryaki has ever done. It's well balanced for the times, between the funky/R&B-driven melodies and smooth tunes which have an acoustic guitar as the only musical frame. After this one, a distant second would be "Leche," plus also a more controversial one as well.
